MTK motor connection kits insulate, seal and mechanically protect stub type and inline type, bolted motor lead connections. The MTK10V series (stub type) and MTK10L series (inline type) are three-phase kits for use on motors rated to 1000 volts. MTK50V series (stub type) and MTK50L series (inline type) are three-phase kits for use on motors and feeder cables rated to 2300 to 8700 volts. If terminations for shielded cable are needed for new installations, refer to Section 3 for the appropriate cable type. The MTK50 series insulat-ing components are manufactured with corona cut-through resistant material. The stub type “V” connec-

tions are for cramped motor boxes where inline connections are not possible. The MTK products dramatically re-duce downtime when changing out or installing a new motor. The time to remove and replace is shortened even more so, because the kits are so easy to remove and replace com-pared to taped connections.

ES elbow sealing kits insulate, seal and mechanically strain relieve the elbow to cable jacket interface on cables and elbows rated to 35 kV.The ES kits are for jacketed concen-tric neutral or wire shielded cables where the neutral or drain wires are used as the grounding medium. The ES_G kits are for metallic tape shielded cable and include and external grounding kit complete with solder-blocked braid, constant force spring clamp, parallel crimp connector and tinned copper wire for grounding the elbow eyelet to the tinned copper braid.

ES_GSeriesContents:3 ea. Black insulating tubes6 ea. Black mastic sealant strips3 ea. External grounding kits3 ea. Tinned copper wire1 ea. Installation guide

The ES kits use a low voltage tube and sealants to seal and strain re-lieve the interface. Since the tube is a continuation of the cable jacket, it is at ground potential and therefore does not require electrical stress relief or higher insulating values for the material. The ES kits wide usage range means inventory stocking require-ments are significantly reduced. If for any rason the elbow would need replacement, the kits are eas-ily removed without damage to the underlying cable or elbow body.

BITH tubing is formulated spe-cifically for insulating round, square and rectangular busbar rated from 5 kV to 35 kV. It can be installed on straight or bent busbars. The high expansion ratio of the tubes provides easy positioning of the tube. Installation is accomplished by heating with either a clean burn-ing torch or with an oven. The installed tubing provides pro-tection from intermittent contact, by animals or foreign articles, either phase-to-ground, or phase-to-phase. The tubing does not provide the complete insulation for the busbar. Air clearances provide the majority of the electrical insulation. The tubing meets the requirements of ANSI C37.20 which is made to withstand rated

phase-to-phase voltage for one minute, thus allowing the breaker to clear the fault. The tubing provides excellent elec-trical insulation without any need to derate the busbar’s ampacity. The tubing is thermally conductive to the extent that the installed tube, by in-creasing the radiating surface area, allows the busbar to run cooler than the same size uninsulated busbar. When insulating bolted sections of rectangular busbar, it is advisable to use two layers over the connection area. Select the largest size tube that will fit the busbar itself. Seal the ends of the tubes over the connec-tion area by using the two inch wide red sealant which can be located in section 7.3 of this catalog.

CBCK SeriesCable-to-BusbarConnectionKits

5-35kVRatedCablesto2”through6”Busbar

OrderingInformation:Select the CBCK kit based on the busbar size and the number of ca-bles to be terminated to each phase. Confirm that the cable size and volt-age class are not exceeded. For example: 15 kV switchgear with 4” busbar with two cable terminations per phase would be CBCK42.

CBCKx1Contents:1 ea. Heavy wall insulating tube1 ea. Fiberglass bolt padx ea. Red sealant strips, as req’d.1 ea. Installation guide

CBCK kits insulate and seal cable to busbar connections on cables and switchgear rated to 35 kV.The CBCK kits are for nonshielded and shielded cable connections to insulated busbar.

Constraints:(1) CBCK kits can accommodate a bare bus length of up to 9 inches. (2) They can be used on busbar up to 5/8 inch thick.(3) They can accommodate bolt lengths up to 2 inches.

If you have an exposed bare busbar longer than the maximum 9 inches, you can cover the exposed busbar using the appropriate BITH busbar tubing in this catalog.

CBCKx13&4Contents:1 ea. Heavy wall insulating tube1 ea. Fiberglass bolt padx ea. Red sealant strips, as req’d.1 ea. 2,3 or 4 leg breakout boot1 ea. Installation guide

Shielded cables will require the use of cable terminations such as out T_G series terminators. CBCK kits are rated up to 15 kV for switchgear built in accordance with ANSI/IEEE C37.20-1987 and Switchgear built to IEC specifica-tions are rated up to 36 kV.TheCBCKkitsarepackaged insingle phase kits. This allows the user to purchase two CBCK 42 kits to connect two feeder cables to each of two 4 inch busbars, and a CBCK43 kit to connect the third two phases plus a PT lead to the third busbar.

MSGK mid-span grounding kits are applicable on cables rated to 35 kV.

These kits address the RUS recom-mendation to externally ground the concentric neutrals on jacketed cables at least four times per mile to limit voltage on the neutral, avoid shock, and provide multiple return paths for line-to-ground faults.

The MSGK kits use sealants and adhesive lined wraparound sleeves to environmentally seal and me-chanically protect the cable jacket. The cable jacket is window-stripped which maintains the continuity of the neutral.

The stainless steel constant force spring(s) and solder-blocked ground braid(s) provide a fault path. MSGK kits also provide a grounding point for any built-up voltage that would otherwise limit the current carrying capacity of the cable’s neutral. The installed system is water-tight and designed for 10-15 kA of fault current for 10 cycles.

The wide use range means inventory requirements are greatly reduced. The heat-activated sealant system assures that the neutral is protected

from the environment. This is a cost effective way to comply with the RUS recommendation.
