Cynthia lovingly calls her books and workshops a “Show and Smell” ministry where she shows you Scripture and gives insight of the ancient secrets of the Biblical plants.

Page 7: Apothecary Mama Intro

Other fun facts that adds “spice” to Cynthia’s workshops is her knowledge of the ancient spice and incense trails, symbolism, and Hebrew pictographs of the plants.

Page 8: Apothecary Mama Intro

Cynthia believes that hand-in-hand, the ancient secrets of the plants named in the Bible, and our modern uses of them, is not only amazing, but is important in the days that we live.

Page 9: Apothecary Mama Intro

Apothecary Mama, Cynthia loves to study and often can be found in her library engulfed in the many plant books that she has acquired. Her studies are enhanced as she embraces Biblical plants through pure, essential oils, teas and tinctures.

Page 10: Apothecary Mama Intro

Cynthia’s library includes new and old books that includes famous herbalists, botanists and aromatherapist’s.

In March 2014, Cynthia studied at the library located at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. She is excited to share some of the facts about plants that she gleaned during this time of study.

In addition, Cynthia has traveled 28 times to Israel. Her experiences are inspirational as she is able to share Jewish insight to Biblical and other plants that grew, and are growing in Israel today.

Cynthia incorporates the modern marvel of essential oils in her books sharing healing properties of the plants and how to properly administer essential oils to your family. In Cynthia’s workshops attendees experience the plants of the Bible using pure, essential oils as a way to connect with the plants that are found in the stories of the Bible.

Page 13: Apothecary Mama Intro

Cynthia believes it is important to note that most Biblical plants are shrouded in mystery and very few plants that are named in the Bible can be identified correctly. Many people have given their opinions but the mysteries remain.

Cynthia firmly believes that those who desire to learn the history of Biblical plants know that essential oils were not produced at the time the Bible was written.

The Oils of the Bible were infused oils. Distillation wasn’t discovered until around the 11th century, and even at that time it was a crude process unlike our modern distillation process.

Other Fun Facts about Apothecary Mama

In 1989 Cynthia began making herbal creations using fresh and dried herbs and her new found love of pure essential oils. She sold potpourris and tussie mussie’s, fresh herbs, infused oils and vinegars and a variety of spice and salad dressing mixes at a local farmer’s market in Wisconsin. She also sold freshly baked breads and cinnamon rolls from wheat she ground fresh.

In 1991, Cynthia became a Food and Nutrition Master with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. Part of the program was to give back to the community by answering phones during the busy canning season and holidays when people needed to know how to safely process their canned goods or cook their turkeys and in need of other holiday cooking tips. Cynthia lectured to community groups with her thrifty shopping and cooking skills as well as sharing the practical knowledge she learned in the Food & Nutrition Master program.

Home Economist, Carolyn Leonard and Cynthia were answering phone calls the day before Thanksgiving. During a break they entered into a conversation where Cynthia began to share her strategies of feeding her family. Carolyn sensed that the Home Economic and life skills that Cynthia lived needed to be shared with others. Carolyn encouraged Cynthia to write a book to share her knowledge on feeding her family nutritionally well on a budget.

Page 28: Apothecary Mama Intro

Cynthia hesitated and said “Some day I will write a book and I will call it How to Feed Your Family on $45 A Week”. A few weeks later Carolyn called asking how the book was coming along. It wasn’t, but she promised Carolyn she would. Over the next few months Cynthia found time to sit at her typewriter and write her strategies. Carolyn looked over the rough draft and told her two things; keep the sentences short and teach from experience. This was the first of Cynthia’s books self-published from 1992 to 1999.
