Mission Overview
• We will calculate the speed of sound as our satellite rises to an altitude of 30km
• We hypothesise that the speed of sound will change in relation to the changes in temperature and pressure
• This data could be useful for scientists calculating the density of the atmosphere of another planet
Design Overview
Bottom boxo Critical systems
• Camera
• Micro controllers
• Heater
• Sensors
o Microphone
o Temperature
o g-force
o Humidity
o Pressure
Top boxo Speakerso Heater
Calibration/Wind Test
• Microphone
• Filtering o Passive - thresholdo Active - stray data
• Precision of the clocko Percent error due to clock
Expected Results
• We expect to record accurate data from all sensors
• Hope to see predicted trends in this data
• From this flight, we hope to see how a change in altitude changes the speed of sound
Biggest Worries
• The microphone won't pick up the sound from the speakers
• The carbon fiber tubes snap.• The camera lense fogs up.
