wood is possibly the perfect building material. not only is wood light with an excellent strength toweight ratio and excellent thermal conductivity, but it also is conducive to the storage, rather thanthe creation of carbon. provided it is sustainably managed, wood can continue to absorb carbon, andat the same time provide an excellent building material.

the forest stewardship council (fsc) is possibly the most well known and credible programme for sustainable forest management. fsc is a non profit organisation, supported by organisations like green peace.

Building material waste can contribute to 15% of total waste – apl designs cost and waste out – using ap:Design, a design, engineering and manufacturing tool. apl‘s x-stain, en exterior protective wood stain, is water based, with low voc‘s and carries the envirochoice tick. this minimises oil based building site contamination.

we minimise packaging and use untreated ispm certified wooden bearers suitable for energy recovery.

MaxiMise in life service

By using long life wood products guaranteed for 25 years, but with an expected service life of 50 years, apl creates less waste via replacement of materials. hot dipped galvanised and stainless steel fasteners are used to complete the service offering.

Planned disPosal and eMBedded energy recovery

apl outdoor products have two disposal options, either burnt as carbon neutral energy in approved furnaces or in approved lined land fills. it is apl‘s aim to be in a position where all materials can be returned to the earth, and with recent developments in wood preservation technology that day will not be far away.

timber is dried, and processed, using carbon neutral heat from wood waste.after emissions related to drying and machining, the timber still sequesters approximately 564kg of co2 per cubic metre.

screeningkiln dried select clear is an excellent subtitute for hardwoods in architectural screening applications. when fixed according to installation guidelines. select clear screening can be guaranteed against, rot, fungal decay and insect attack for 25 years.

finishingselect clear can be installed uncoated and will naturally silver over time. select clear can be coated with x-stain for an extended lifespan and darker colour.

fixingselect deck can be nailed, screwed or hidden fixed to the substrate.
