Cut four strips 4 1/2" x 60" (Length of Fabric) for the outer border. Will be trimmed down later.

There will be about a 23" x 60" piece left from the above cut, sub-cut into sixty-five 4 1/2" squares.

Four strips 4 1/2" x WOF (Width of Fabric) sub-cut into seventy-nine 4 1/2" squares for a total of 144 squares.

Peel Appliqué and how it should fit in the 4 1/2" background square. Blue line is seam allowance.


Block Appliqué Instructions:

1. The sample quilts used a double-sided fusible web product. Choose your favorite appliqué method and prepare twelve peels each from each Innuendo batik. Tracing template is on page 1. Follow the product instructions if using the fusible appliqué method.

2. Position a Peel Appliqué diagonally on the 4 1/2" white square. The tips of the Peel should be positioned within the 1/4" seam allowance indicated by the blue line on page 1.

3. If using the fusible appliqué method, finish the edges of the appliqué Peels by using a button-hole (blanket) or small zigzag stitch in coordinating or white thread.

4. Three layout options are included in this pattern. Each batik is given a letter assignment for easier placement. Arrange your Peel blocks until you're pleased with the color placement.

Quilt Top Construction:

1. When the blocks are arranged to suit you, sew together the first horizontal row. Press the seams to one side. Sew the blocks together to form the second row. Press the seams in the opposite direction. When the rows are com-pleted, nest seams, pin, and sew the top row to the second. Sew the second row to the third, etc. After the quilt top is sewn together, press well.

2. Measure the quilt top. In a perfect quilter's world, it should measure 48 1/2" square.

Trim two of the border strips to 48 1/2" or to your quilt top length if different.

3. Sew to the left and right sides by pinning the center, then the ends and in between. Ease any differences. Press seams toward the border.

4. Measure your quilt top width. It should measure 56 1/2".

Trim the other two border strips to 56 1/2" or to your quilt top width if different. Sew the 56 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips in the same manner as above to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the border.

5. Quilt as desired, label, and bind. Well done!
