AP Government and Comparative Politics Instructor: Mr. Shaloiko Room 115 B3 Course Description: The teacher has read the most recent AP Government and Politics Course Description. The course provides instruction in each of the following six topics outlined in the Course Description: o Introduction to Comparative Politics o Sovereignty, Authority, and Power o Political Institutions o Citizens, Society, and the State o Political and Economic Change o Public Policy Six countries form the core of the course: China, Great Britain, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, and Russia. The course uses concrete examples from these six countries, including contemporary political changes, to illustrate the six major content areas of the course. The course teaches students to compare and contrast political institutions and processes across countries and to derive generalizations. The course introduces students to the analysis and interpretation of data relevant to comparative government and politics. The course requires students to write analytical and interpretive essays frequently. The course includes supplemental readings, including primary source materials and contemporary news analyses, that strengthen student understanding of the curriculum. Daily Requirements: 1. Quizzes/Tests/Assessments 2. The teacher has read the most recent AP Government and Politics Course Description.

The course provides instruction in each of the following six topics outlined in the Course Description:

o Introduction to Comparative Politics o Sovereignty, Authority, and Power o Political Institutions o Citizens, Society, and the State o Political and Economic Change o Public Policy

Six countries form the core of the course: China, Great Britain, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, and Russia. The course uses concrete examples from these six countries, including contemporary political changes, to illustrate the six major content areas of the course.

Responsibilities: Preparation: You are 100% responsible for your own success in this class. Come to class each day prepared. Tardiness: Come to class on time! YOU WILL BE DEDUCTED PARTICIPATION POINTS IF TARDY WITHOUT A PASS Absences: Make-up work is your responsibility! You will have up to ONE full class period to complete missed work and/or scheduled make up tests. You must come to me and ask what you have missed. Late Work Policy: In order to receive full points, all assignments must be turned in by the end of the school day they are due. I WILL ACCEPT LATE ASSIGNMENTS UP TO ONE WEEK FROM THE DUE DATE. BUT YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE 50% PERCENT OF THE POINTS EARNED. NO WORK WILL BE GRADED AFTER ONE WEEK. For each day late, you will lose 10 percentage points from the total points of that assignment. Classroom Rules: ***In order to be successful in this class, you must adhere to what is expected of you. There will be a zero tolerance policy for certain behaviors in the classroom. If any of the following relate to your behavior, your participation grade will be affected:

1. Using foul, inappropriate, racial, or disturbing language 2. Distracting and Disrupting other students, teachers, and faculty 3. Use of cell phone, Ipod, Ipad, tablet, gaming system, music device, head phones etc. (when not

authorized) 4. Consistently sleeping in class 5. ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE CLASSROOM

**If you fail to abide by any of these policies, action will take place. Your grade can be affected, your device will be confiscated, and further discipline will be acted upon if warranted. Behavior: As soon as you enter Room 115, you are entering a room epitomized by respect. We are all young adults. As stated, behavior disrespecting other students, teachers, faculty, and staff will not be tolerated within my classroom. Following daily routines will lead you toward success in this class. Text:
