Today’s readings invite us to look into the depth of a stewardship way of life. And they reveal that it re-quires the commitment of our whole being to God. It is anything but easy or shallow. It points us to seek after higher things — the wisdom of God and Heaven itself.

Our Second Reading, from the Letter to the Hebrews, shows us a way to obtain such wisdom —it is available to us right in the Scriptures, which are the living word of God. Every time we ap-proach them in a spirit of prayer, they will speak to us. God’s wis-dom is right there for us. All we need to do is commit some daily time to seek it.

Our Gospel Reading from Mark is one of the better-known pas-sages in the Gospel – the story of the rich young man. In re-sponse to the man’s question on what he must do to obtain eter-nal life, Jesus tells him to keep the commandments. The man replies that he has always done this much. But he rightfully sus-pects there is more to being a disciple of Jesus than just follow-ing the external rules.

We are called to be so much more than rule-followers; we are called to be Christ followers. A stewardship way of life frees us to follow Christ with all of our being and so to find eternal life. Copyright © 2010 www.THECATHOLICSTEWARD.com

“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” All the prophets of the Bible bear the word of God. They and their message are frightening because they

disturb our complacency and demand of us far more than we may be willing to give. At every Mass we hear the prophetic word. The question is: Will we listen? Or will we dismiss what seems too familiar to deserve our attention? Sometimes it may be hard to hear the message; sometimes we may just not pay attention. But the word of God never ceases to call us. God can send God’s message through readings, homilies, hymns, pray-ers, persons, events, or even simple experiences. God never gives up trying to break through our deafness so that we might hear and live.

Let’s do it again! We shut down an abortion clinic in North Fort Myers! Let’s do it to Planned Parenthood at Winkler & College! Starting Septem-ber 26 through November 4, we will be prayer walking at Winkler & College in front of Planned Parenthood daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. St. Cecilia’s time to man the sidewalks is every Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Come out, spend an hour or two and get involved. Save the babies!

Rosary for the Healing of our Church

Each Friday, during the month of October we will pray the rosary here at St. Cecilia for the healing of us, His Church here in SW Florida, and also for the larger Church around the World. If you have been asking “what can I do”, now is your chance to be part of the healing process at Saint Cecilia.

We are asking each one of you to join us weekly, Fri-day, from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Just 1/2 hour, to pray for our Church. The Eucharist will be exposed until 6:30 PM for anyone who would like to make a Holy Hour or just spend a few more minutes with Jesus.

Time flies, doesn’t it? We are preparing to launch our seventh cycle of Catholic Divorce Survival. We invite you to join us for dinner on Monday, October 15 at 6:00 PM. Let’s break bread and share our stories. There’s some-thing here for you, whether you’ve experienced the group nine times or never.

We have the newly revised Catholic Divorce Survival materials OR a study of Dr. Allen Hunt’s Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody. Come spend the evening with us then decide how you’d like to experience this program for the next several weeks. If you know of someone who could benefit from this time with our group, please bring them to our table. You may contact Kelli in the parish office to say you will attend and disclose any dietary re-strictions you may have.

It is never too early to register for Baptism!

Are you being called to have your child receive the sacrament of Baptism? If so, we are here to wel-come him or her into the Church; God’s family.

Regular participation in the life of the Parish is re-quired. There is a six month wait time for new parishioners unless your
