DEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS & FAMILIES:Thank you for your interest in the Concord Regional Technical Center. Since 1980,the CRTC has helped thousands of students from regional high schools earn atremendous head start, as well as a competitive advantage in all aspects of theirfuture endeavors. We are especially proud of the fact that the gross majority of ourstudents consider the CRTC program they chose to be the highlight of their highschool career, as well an integral part of their college and career plans.

Our curricula, designed in conjunction with post-secondary and industry partners, provide students the opportunity to transfer their acquired skills and knowledge tochallenging real-life problems that are not solved with simple answers. All of ourprograms are designed to parallel particular college classes, so students can earnboth college and high school credit simultaneously.

Our faculty members go out of their way to personally know and motivate every oneof our students. We encourage students to discover and create custom career planswhich may include college, trade school, military service, and/or working in industry. An impressive common trait of our instructors is their dual expertise in their industries,as well as in the art of teaching which, together establish the most authentic classroomexperience possible.

In addition to our quality program and staff, you will also find that our facilities aretop-notch. The breadth and depth of our equipment parallels what is found in industry.

This brochure and our website provide information for you about all of our programs.School presentations, family open-house nights, preview days, class visits and one-to-one teacher meetings are also offered. We look forward to meeting you to share whatwe offer. Please let us know how we can help you make the best decision for your future.

Sincerely,

Director Steve Rothenberg

“I love my CRTC class. I love the fact that I am actually put into a classroom and apply everything Ihave learned from my previous year. I am very appreciative of the opportunities that this programhas offered me. At first I was unaware of whether or not I wanted to become a teacher and now I knowone hundred percent this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. This class has shown me what Iam capable of and has given me a hands-on experience that is undeniably unforgettable.”

LETTERS BACK TOTHE CRTC:

“I present to you an educational choice. At the CRTC, you can study and experience a career ofYOUR choosing. What’s amazing is, when you come here, you will find yourself surrounded bystudents (and teachers) with the same interests as you. Your classmates come from up to ninedifferent schools, and all are eager to learn, dig into activities and make new friends.”

- Director Steve Rothenberg

Dear Mr. Mayotte:Everything’s going pretty well. I graduated from WyoTech with a 4.0 GPA and it was a very good experience for

me. I do credit a lot of my success at WyoTech with the CRTC program because it gave me a great foundation

and put me miles ahead of most everyone else there. Being at CRTC not only helped me graduate high school

but it gave me the real shop experience that not only helped me in school but also helped in the workforce.

There just isn’t enough words to describe how great the CRTC program was for me and how much I learned.

WyoTech was a great school. The school is oriented toward class 8 trucks but there is a lot to be learned

for whatever application. Engines, powertrain, fluid power and electrical, and refrigeration are the main points in

the program, although they are pointed towards class 8 trucks you can take the knowledge and do anything with

it. I am no longer afraid of touching automatics and gear boxes. We tore them down and put them back together

and dynoed the automatics. With that said like anything else you get out what you put into it. If you really

want to succeed you gotta put the effort in. Right now I’m working for Sheridan County Implement which is a John Deere Dealership in Sheridan, WY

specializing in agriculture equipment. I got the job through school. At WyoTech they have job fairs every 3

months with employers all over the country. Again, you get what you put into it. I interviewed with 7 different

companies and got 7 different job offers. I credit some of my interview skills to the grading process atCRTC...I plan on staying out here for a few more years and get the most training possible.

Hopefully I can become John Deere master certified and make enough cash tocome back to New Hampshire. I want to thank you for all your help and push me to seek my full potentialand good luck with future students and classes and good luck with the FordAAA competition.

INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS >>Whenever possible, we offer students the oppor-tunity to spend significant time in the field to dosuch activities as internships and job-shadowing.Our ability to work with industry partners andcreate successful partnerships is of the highestimportance. A listing of our industry partners ison our website.

Industry, post-secondary and community part-ners also participate on advisory boards toensure our programs are properly preparing

students for competitive success in industryand postsecondary education. We are obligedto adjust our programs if they are not meetingthis high standard. This required responsive-ness is a key element of CTE education toensure quality.

We have a number of in-house businesses toprovide students hands-on work experiences, including the CRTC Automotive Repair Shop,Crimson Cafe Restaurant, Crimson CreationsHair Salon and the Crimson Tide Preschool. These businesses provide students regular opportunities to practice their skills.

THE CRTC APPLICATION PROCESS >>Here are the suggested steps for a newstudent to apply to the CRTC:

1. Learn about the CRTC online at http://the-CRTC.net. We have a great deal of informationposted including videos, full descriptions, andslideshows about every program.

2. Attend a large group informational presen-tation (scheduled for every school we serve). Inaddition, on a few select days during the monthsof January and February, we will have a CRTCrepresentative and some currently enrolledstudents at a table in your cafeteria to ‘talkCRTC’ during lunch. Look for our banner.

3. Visit us on one of our CRTC Preview Daysto explore a program or programs you areparticularly interested in.

4. Sit in on a class during one of our CRTCClassroom Visitation Days.

5. Chat with one of our instructors or the CRTCDirector to learn more. We can reach youand/or your family at home if requested.

6. Apply using our application available on ourwebsite or at your school. Once complete, bringyour application to your high school’s guidancestaff. Most students apply mid to late February, with the exact date depending upon the partic-ular school. Feel free to contact our office at anypoint in the process.

7. Final enrollment decisions are generallymade by the second week of April, thereafter oncase-by-case basis. Applications are acceptedinto the summer.

8. Generally, our first year students are juniors;however, we do accept some sophomores whodemonstrate a readiness to be successful inour program.

For the past several years our programs havefilled up quickly, and most every seat is filledby February applicants. We urge all studentsto follow deadlines carefully and take a fewextra minutes on their application to ensure aquality submission.

ASSESSMENT AND SPUR >>The CRTC has its own unique evaluation system call SPUR (Student Performance uponUnderstandings Review). The SPUR processwas created by our staff to be similar to aworkplace performance review. We take pridein the fact that a number of other CTE Centersin New Hampshire are in the process ofadopting this model.

One highlight of the SPUR process most appre-ciated by our students is a quarterly 15 minuteprivate meeting between every student andhis/her teacher. The purpose of the meeting isto review all aspects of the student’s perform-ance upon both hard and soft skills. Hard skills(competencies) are technical understandingsrelated to a particular career. Soft skills arepersonal and interpersonal qualities such asattitude, work ethic, and collaboration, whichare required for most professions.

During a SPUR meeting, students are asked topresent their performance against clearly definedstandards and in doing so a rich discussionensues about their performance. The result isa personalized performance review as well asclear targets for the future. Ultimately, studentperformance is tracked over eight quarters.

CRTC HIGHLIGHTS

Encourage students to develop their capacity to “Own Their Education” now and in the future.

Ensure that our competencies and related rubrics are transparent and in language that is understandable for students of all abilities.

TO ENHANCE THE PROGRAM>>Emphasize the development of soft skills and hard skills—industry seeks employees who are competent in both of these areas.

“It’s great...I do transmissions, brakes, replace intake valves...Actually getting out in the real world and working is wonderful. The only bad thing is when I have to leave.”

- Jean Morency, Automotive Class of 2013

Due to some complications, I was not going to be able to do CRTC this second year. I had to drop it andwas disappointed. Valerie Koch came to me and resolved the problem, offering for me to do it as an in-dependent study. She takes time out of her day to come to Pembroke Academy and meet with me, emailsme extra pieces of information and has truly gone above and beyond to make CRTC a great experienceand very accommodating for me. Val is an inspiring woman with lots of drive and passion for her careeras a teacher and for CRTC! Thank you for everything you do! - Taylor Bussiere, Teacher Preparation Class of 2015
