Do you remember what that was like not to know the faces, not to have comfortable connections you can count on, or know exactly where to go once you arrived? Do you remember the drive to the location, thinking about who you were going to talk to, if you were dressed appropriately, if you were a good enough conversationalist to make people like you, and all the while hoping and praying that your children were going to behave? Do you remember how the night before your stomach started to feel butterflies because of the newness of the situation you were going to face the next day? How you probably picked out your “go-to” outfit because you needed every thread of confidence possible to “get-through” the next day? Shew, those situations are almost too much to handle. Now imagine having arrived on site, after searching to find the proper door of entrance and figuring out where the group of people were gathering to meet, you had to find a place to sit that fit all of your family members comfortably. No issues, right? But what if the only available place that would fit you and your family members was close to the front? Inside, immediately becoming anxious, you knew you and your family would have to walk down the aisle between people you’ve never met before, wondering if you should make eye contact or just keep your head down and get to the seat as quickly as possible. At this point you begin to wonder if this was even a good idea at all! This is a highly stressful situation for most, visiting a new congregation for the first time. It is a combination of two of the harder things for people to dotry to change their life to start gathering for worship regularly at a new place and meeting hundreds of people for the first time. So, my dream for the church is quite practical. My dream is that each one of us would move up two rows, two simple rows, so we can provide a comfortable place for our guests to sit. Imagine if you were that guest, that first time visitor, with all the anxiety about arriving and being with 300+ new people just to realize you have to sit up near the front! My dream is that we alleviate that fear for our guests and give them the seats that provide the most comfort. Austin Johnson

“My Dream for the Church”

Have you ever walked in to a situation with a larger group of people you aren’t familiar with? It is a combination of two of the harder things for people to do—try to change their life to start gathering for worship regularly at a new place and meeting hundreds of people for the first time. So, my dream for the church is quite practical. My dream is that each one of us would move up two rows, two simple rows, so we can provide a comfortable place for our guests to sit. THANK YOU Dear Florence Blvd Church of Christ, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis is so grateful for your donation to the Pop-Tab Program. Collecting and donating those little tabs makes a big impact at RMHC Memphis. Funds raised through the Pop-Tab Program are used to provide much needed supplies and programs for families and children as they face childhood cancer. Thank you for keeping families close, and providing donations that allow RMHC Memphis families to experience all the comforts of home. (This is what Mack Weatherford does with the coke tabs. Please continue to donate and THANK YOU Mack for doing this). Thank you Florence Blvd, Thank you so much for the calls, texts, cards, and also for coming to the funeral home, during the loss of my nephew. Clanton Poole & Family

Monday Night for the Master will resume next week (January 20th) after a break for the Holidays and while our children and grandchildren have been out of school. If you are looking to get involved in a ministry for the New Year, why not give this a try? Our Sewing Sisters will be gathering during the afternoon on that day, if you want to join a worthwhile sewing and service group. There are several involved in World Bible School lessons, there is always something to do in and around the building as far as fixing, moving, arranging, replacing and things like that. Several members make phone calls and visits to those who are new visitors, or are in the hospital and nursing homes. There is always a good group of people who send cards for all occasions to members and visitors, if you would like to be involved there. We will assemble at 6:40 pm next Monday night for a short update on visitors and those we know of who are sick, and then dispense into various service groups. Hope to see you there!
