BY IVOR TERRIBLEMEMORY
JUNE 1975 is a month Arkley Cricket Club can well forget as out of tengaines played only one was won and two drawiz. The one victory was ahandsome 56 run victory over New Southgate Social in the first roundof the Embassy Cup and we were unfortunate to lose to Bow by 2 ruis inthe next round of the competition. Thc other six defeats however wereby fairly large margins.
We, started the month losing to W.A.R.B.L. in a low scoring game (as usual)on’Lunar Landscape’ surface at Upshire Hall, this despite a hat trick by‘No I’m not buying a round’ Bob Ingram. The following week we lost toReg Olivera by 50 runs, dropped catches and poor fielding probably beingthe main factor in this defeat. Our bowling and fielding was unrecognizablein comparison the next day when we dismissed New Southgate Social for 87to defeat them by 56 runs in the Embassy Cup. 6 was also the number ofruns scored by both Sharma and Peter I3rowrt as they put on 98 runs for ourthird wicket to make victory possible. A too strong Old Elizabethan’s IIISLdC scored 193 in just over 2 hours and then dismissed Arkicy for 75 ina C.C.C. Fixture Bureau game. Watford Taverners the following day nearlymatched the Old Elizabeth’s score when they declared. rkley looked to beheading for another defeat before an injured i\rthi’r Prawn, Paul. Townsend,Bob Ingram and 34 byes pulled Arkley round to make a good show of it inthe end. After restricting Northinet to 76—8 in a twenty overs game we couldonly muster 43—7 ourselves against the bowling of King,Johnson,Horn & Cant.Bob Ingram and (a rather bruised) Peter Amass turned a near defeat into anear victory v Roving Reporters in our first game at Brunswick Park.Against a ‘rabble’ from Bow the next day in the Embassy Cup we lost by 2runs after a stand of 72 by Arthur Brown and Cob Ingram from 59—6 lookedas if it might win us the game. .\ modest total of 125—6 v. Nanor Drive N.at the unlikely venue of Kenton Cricket Club was easily passed as opener)like Farrell hit )0 in 25 minutes (28 balls) and opener J.flaughan ofBritish Rail Hatfield hit 6i out of 117 as the railwaymcn beat us by 31runs to complete this unsuccessful month. MORE DETAILS INSIDEOur playing record to the end of June being P 15, W 1, 1) 2, L 9, Can 2.Let’s hope that July is a better month for us and with the return of MarkCripps from Liverpool University that is a distinct possibility
