He knew firsthand what it was like to experience sorrow for sin, sorrow for struggles, and sorrow for shattered dreams. What makes David perhaps the most beloved Psalmist and the perfect type or early image of the suffering of our Jesus, was the fact He was not afraid to express His emotion or bear His soul for all to see. Psalm 55 is set against a backdrop of the life of David and the increasing tension felt in his family, particularly with his son Absalom. Absalom killed his brother Amnon, no doubt in vengeance for Amnon raping their sister Tamar (II Samuel 13:14; 29). Absalom left Israel, finally returning with his father’s permission, but the two did not see each other for two years (II Samuel 14:24). Later, residents of Israel would come to the king’s palace for judgements regarding their problems, but Absalom would meet them at the gate and learn of their problem. No matter what, Absalom would side in their favor. This obviously garnered Absalom much favor among the people (II Samuel 15:6). As Absalom’s favor grew higher among the people, and the divide between he and his father grew wider, David eventually decides to flee the city for fear of his own life. In his father’s absence Absalom summons two counselors or advisors into his presence. Ahithophel, one of David’s inner most trusted counselors (II Samuel 15:12), and Hushai (II Samuel 17:5), were the two called upon by Ahithophel. Each man’s advice was sought (all the while, David, not fully knowing the details of these events, prayed for their advice to be confused by their “tongues being divided” (Psalm 55:9)), and Ahithophel and Hushai offered opposing advice. Ahithophel’s advice was rejected, which resulted in him going to his house and hanging himself (II Samuel 17:23). During all of this calamity, during all of this personal injury experienced among this royal family, you hear David’s words, words which ring all too well as an early echo of the betrayal of Jesus, “For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in the throng” (Psalm 55:12-14). Scripture gives us the insight that our Lord was, “in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). Our Lord was willing, out of love for your soul and the soul of every person, to experience every hardship, every temptation, every struggle with sin; just so He could conquer all, and find the victory for you and for me. That even means our Lord Jesus was willing to be betrayed, have trust forsake, and have His own life rejected, for no other reason that to understand your every hurt, your every pain, and your every trial. Oh yes the song is true, “How deep the Father’s love for us!?!” I hope you know, the Jesus we see in the Psalms, is the Jesus we know to be the true Lord of all, living today for your sake and mine, to make all hope for heaven ours to enjoy.

SHARING HEAVEN

IN 2011

“I Hope You Know”

It may seem that no other Psalmist could capture the heart of sorrow and pain, quite like the Psalmist David.

WE’VE HAD A VERY BLESSED…. week in our youth program, having the opportunity to fellowship and worship alongside each other on numerous occasions. We had another huge crowd at our Fireside Sunday night, which was hosted by Matthew and Cissy Dotson. Matthew led our devot iona l and shared some experiences from his past that have helped him come to appreciate life so much more. It really was a great night! We also had a great turnout on Monday night for our Bible study. We looked at a Biblical view of anger and

how Jesus dealt with His anger. We had a great study on a subject that I know we have all struggled with at some point in our lives. We still have opportunities ahead this week to be together, so mark them down in your calendar. This Friday night is Laserquest Night in Nashville. All Jr. and Sr. High are invited. The cost is $25 and this includes 2 games of Laserquest and your meal. The bus should roll back in around 11p. I hope to see you there! THE SPARKS AND INTERMEDIATES EGG HUNT IS THIS…. coming Sunday following our morning Bible class. Just as every year, have your little one meet in the lobby with basket in hand and we will turn them loose from there. If you would like to bring any eggs to include in the hunt, please feel free to do so. You can simply leave those outside of my office on Sunday morning before service and we will make sure they are added to the hunt! THIS IS THE FINAL WEEK TO TURN IN APPLICATIONS…. for the Jr. High Retreat! The bus is pulling out Friday April 29th at 5p and we should be back on Sunday May 1 around 11a! The cost for the retreat is $35 dollars and is due in with your application. There is still plenty of room to go and we are looking forward to a great weekend! Feel free to invite a friend, this is open to anyone in the 6th-8th grade! IT FLOORS ME TO WRITE THIS, BECAUSE IT SIMPLY…. seems like we just finished doing this not too long ago. However, Seniors, it’s that time again! Sr. Sunday is scheduled for May 15th. Any Senior who wishes to be recognized on Sr. Sunday needs to submit their name to the church office as soon as possible so that you can receive a packet explaining the events of the weekend! Time just seems to fly when you are having fun! Light the Way-Chris
