Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the 16th Middle East Corrosion Conference & Exhibition during the period 8 – 11 Feb 2016, Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy. The conference was organized by the Bahrain Society of Engineers and NACE Dharan Saudi Arabia Section.

Due to urgent business trip, Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy deputized the Secretary-General of the National Authority for Oil and Gas Dr. Ahmed Ali Alshereean to open the conference and exhibition. The opening ceremony was attended by Senior Government Officers, engineers, researchers and specialists in addition to representatives of local, regional and international companies.

Minister of Education opened “Engineering Career Expo” 2016

The organizers keenness to make this event successful, invited many international expert in this field to speak about this subject. The conference focus on control and prevent corrosion as one of the important topics for various industries, especially oil and gas industry. Therefore 108 papers presented reflected the growing global interest in topics corrosion. The event was attended by 700 participants from several Gulf, regional and global countries.

The Deputy Patron also opened the exhibition, which included exhibits and products based on modern technology. The number of companies participated was 45 local, regional and global companies and provided its advanced technologies.

BSE will organize a training course entitled “Design and Formulation of Urban Development Indicators”, during the period from 4 to 7 April 2016 at BSE headquarters in Juffair. Eng. Abdul Jalil Al-Sebea will be the course Instructor.

The workshop aims to Introduce the participants to the following topics : importance of indicators in work, train the participants on how to use the urban indicators in analyzing urban development situations, train the participants on using indicators as a tool for strategic planning, Introduce the participants to the different methodologies in collecting, tabulating, classifying of data and calculating urban indicators, to make participants understand the Global Urban Indicators required to prepare the Country’s Reports, introduce the participants to general reporting techniques using different formats and methods, introduce the participants to the principals of urban observatories.

His Excellence Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Naimi, Minister of Education opened the” Engineering Career Expo 2016” which was organized by BSE, at its headquarters in Juffair on Sunday 28th February 2016. The expo opening was attended Eng. Masoud Alhermi President of BSE, some of board members and a number of government officials.

The exhibition which lasted two days included many engineering disciplines to provide secondary school students enough information about different engineering disciplines, nature and job opportunities in the labor market. This will help them to select specialty that fits with their interests and skills at the university level.

“Design and Formulation of Urban Development Indicators” Workshop

The exhibition covered more than 13 engineering disciplines. They were: civil engineering, architectural Engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, electronic engineering, petroleum engineering, environmental engineering, instrumentation and process, control engineering, quantity surveying engineering, computer engineering, bio medical engineering.

More than 1500 students visited the exhibition from 37 private and public schools.

A group of students from University of Bahrain - Civil Engineering Department, Maher Sheikh Mohammed harem, Hassan AlHaraj, Ali Hammad, presented a new idea on strengthening external tendons to increase the moment capacity, shear resistance and the beam performance to Strengthening of Overloaded Reinforced Concrete Beams Using External Post-Tension.

Mahar stated that strengthening method, is Divided into Passive and Active. The Passive type does not introduce any stresses such as section enlargement. While the

BSE’s Activities Committee in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women organized a workshop on, “The concept of integrating women in the development” - the financial management and the general budget on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the society headquarter in Juffair.

BSE held the second workshop of training the trainers on the framework of implementing the national strategy for phasing out Ozone-depleting substances, Ozone Layer (HPMP) at its headquarter in Juffair on Monday 15 Feb 2015.

The aim of the workshop was to qualify trainers entrusted with the training of customs inspection officers, and introducing the laws and legislation for the imported materials used in the HVAC industry, as well as the identifying alternative materials, to raise awareness in the later stages of government institutions and advisory institutions and industrial users and senior engineering departments.

It is worth mentioning that BSE was entrusted to implement the project (PMP) on behalf of the Supreme Council for the Environment in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programmer (UNEP).

The first workshop for training the trainers began on August 30, 2015. Eight workshops will be organized by BSE this year to train nearly 100 Custom Officers.
