Anyone Can Draw ~ Intermediate Edition

    ANYONE CAN DRAW

    By

    Stephan Baker

    Intermediate Edition

My belief is that anyone can learn to draw at any age. With this in mind I have created

step by step instructions for drawing things we see around us using simple shapes.

When working with students I will tell them that if they can draw circles, squares and

triangles they can draw just about anything they can see. Almost every child that I haveever taught from kindergarten to grade twelve can daw these three shapes.

This book is designed with the idea that the teacher can photocopy the sheet that the

child is interested in and allow the student to work through the steps. This is why I have

kept the instructions as simple as possible. The other thing that I have done is printed

on only one page. The reason for this is that if you want to use this book as a workbook

you can have the drawing instructions open and draw on the opposite page. It is also a

    useful page for making notes!

As well in the appendix I have included two pages that are intended to be used asresource tools for teachers. The first page is full of faces that show different

expressions. This is good if you are trying to encourage students to draw beyond a

smiley face. The second page is an example of how to evaluate a students art work.

This is intended to be a guideline. This book is also the first to have included in it lesson

plans and ideas to help the teacher with the teaching of the material found here.

I hope that you and your students find this book helpful.

    Lesson Plan #8Space Picture

    Grade Levels(s): 4, 5, 6

Objective: Great for students that are studying space and planets.

Materials: Pencil, eraser, crayons, paper, black paint wash

    Time Required: 1 hour

Activities and Procedures: Have students draw the space stationand other details that will make up their picture. The picture can be

finished in two ways. The first is to just have the students colour their

picture with crayons or coloured pencils.

The other way is to have the students use bright coloured crayons.

Have students colour in their picture, do not colour in the sky. Once

all the details have been coloured in have the students paint a black

wash over the picture. The parts coloured with crayon will showthrough nicely.

    Environments

    Grade Levels(s): 4, 5, 6

Objective: This is a great way to study the different environmentsand habitats that animals live in. It is also a good way to introduce

the continents. This lesson works well for students studying

    geography and social studies.

Materials: Pencil, eraser, coloured pencils, paper

    Time Required: 2 hours

Activities and Procedures: Create different environment scenesusing the steps to draw the animals shown in each environment

section. The teacher can lead the students to add appropriate

background details for each environment scene.

    - Certain animals may be found in more than one environment,

but for the purpose of this book they have been placed in the

most logical section.- Animals in the Arctic section live in either the Arctic or

    Antarctica.

Anyone Can Draw ~ Intermediate Edition

    Appendix

The following pages have been included as a resource for teachers.

I have included a couple of extra lesson plans as further ideas for combining Art

with Language Arts. There is also a page of an example of how to evaluate

    students art work.

This is intended to be a guideline.

    Lesson Plan #10

    Language Arts Idea

    Grade Levels(s): 4, 5, 6

Objective: Have the students write about what they have drawn.

    Materials: Pencil, paper

    Time Required: - 1 hour

Activities and Procedures: Once the students are finished theirpictures you can have them write about what they have created. It

could be a whole story or just a few lines. If that does not fit into the

day plan take time to ask them about their picture. Every artist wants

to talk about their work. This activity helps to build confidence and

self esteem in the young artist. Remember there is no right or wrong

and the step by step guidelines are just that, guidelines.
