The Roadmap pRocess

The aim of the Forum is to develop a common vision and set a new strategic roadmap to achieve the goals set forth in the Barcelona convention, to establish by 2020 a comprehensive, effectively-managed and ecologically representative network of marine protected areas in the mediterranean.

The roadmap has been developed in a participatory approach. a draft has been circulated to all Forum participants. during the next few days, the roadmap will be reviewed and enriched and the actions needed to improve the mediterranean network of mpas will be agreed upon.

Vision: “To achieve by 2020 a comprehensive, ecologically representative, effectively connected and efficiently managed network of marine protected areas that ensures the long term conservation of the components of the mediterranean marine biodiversity and significantly supports the sustainable development in the region. “

The 4 strategic objectives: 1 make the mediterranean mpa

network ecologically representative and consistent in the near future.

2 achieve effective and more efficient management and governance of mediterranean mpas.

3 Integrate mediterranean mpas into the broader context of sustainable use of the marine environment, taking into account marine spatial planning and promoting benefit sharing.

4 Reinforce the allocation of financial resources for mpas management.

The discussions and conclusions of the plenary sessions, workshops, special events, stands and side events will be integrated to the recommendations of the roadmap.

At the end of the Forum, the key points of the roadmap will be presented in the ANTALYA DECLARATION.

The aNTaLYa decLaRaTIoN does not intend to be a legally binding document. It is a joint recommendation that could contribute to the elaboration of future programmes and initiatives to be developed in the framework of the Barcelona convention and european mpa policies. It will also be presented during international meetings, including the International marine protected areas congress, Impac 3, to be held in marseilles, France, in october 2013.

The roadmap has been developed

from a vision and 4 strategic

objectives

Roadmap key points will be presented in the ANTALYA DECLARATION.

For the first time in the mediterranean, over 300 key players involved in the marine environment have gathered to share their experiences and develop a joint roadmap to advance the network of marine Protected Areas in the mediterranean.

coming from one of the 21 countries bordering the mediterranean and beyond, you are a representative of a national agency, a field manager, a scientist, a non-governmental organization, a regional or an international partner, or a local economic actor, and you have come to share your experience, learn from that of others, and network.

You will also contribute to shaping up the mediterranean mpa agenda for the next few years. Your participation is key and we look forward to the fruitful exchanges.

We have designed a rich agenda during which you can participate in a field trip, attend plenary sessions, workshops, a round table, side events, focus sessions, or chat around stands and scientific posters.

This programme gives you a detailed view of the sessions that are planned.

The sessions:1 Plenary sessions are open to all. They will take place in the

VeRaNo room.

2 The workshops and the round table are work-sessions on a specific topic and will provide concrete recommendations to the Roadmap. These events are limited to 50 pre-registered participants. You have received a confirmation from the organizing committee if you are scheduled to attend one or several of these sessions. The round table takes place in the TeRRaZa 2 room and the workshops take place in the VeRaNo room.

3 The focus sessions will present the main results of the projects conducted by the Forum’s partners. These events are open to all. They take place in the caLIeNTe room.

4 The side events are participative sessions that include time for discussions and exchange. These events are limited to 30 participants on a first-come first-served basis. They take place in the pRImaVeRa room.
