1) Are you certified by the Plastic Surgery Board to perform a breast augmentation procedure?

Perhaps this is one of the most popular questions of all and it certainly is a very important one. Credibility must be examined because there had been a huge percentage of unqualified doctors performing plastic surgery procedures. Some of these doctors have only attended weekend courses which is not in any way, shape or form considered an expert in the area of plastic surgery.

Dr Hong is certified by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeon of Canada as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Only surgeons who had proper plastic surgery training in North America as well as passing the vigorous examination will have this credential.

2) Are you a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons?

Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons is the professional organization of plastic surgeons in Canada whose members are well-trained and qualified to perform plastic surgery. It has the most stringent rules for plastic surgeons. It is the most reputable organization that grants membership only to those who undergo an extensive screening.

Patients who are contemplating on getting breast augmentation should see what type of organization the plastic surgeon has affiliation with. You as a patient have the right to know this and any doctor who may feel uncomfortable with this question, or tries to deflect the question is surely someone who is lacking the expertise to give you the peace of mind you need.

3) How many years of training do you have in this field?

Although breast implantation is not considered to be as difficult as other surgical procedures, it is of paramount importance for a patient to know that the plastic surgeon has the knowledge and years of extensive training to deal with possible complications that could arise.

Had proper training for over 7 years and 22 years of practice

4) How many procedures of this type have you performed to date?

Practice leads to perfection. Although there are factors that can influence the outcome of a breast augmentation surgery, plastic surgeons who have done a number of this procedure are the ones who are most equipped in dealing with patient care.

We perform all types of classic as well as advance plastic surgery. In term of types, there must be over 100 types.

5) How do you decide if I am a valid candidate for this surgery?

The best candidates for breast augmentation surgery should be at least 18 years old, non-pregnant, and in good physical health. Being psychologically stable and able to understand the difference between unrealistic and realistic expectations are also important factors to consider.

There are other criteria that your plastic surgeon need to consider before labeling you as an “ideal candidate” for breast enhancement surgery, and his or her decision should never be influenced by financial gain if your safety is concerned.

6) Where will I have my surgery?

Most breast augmentation surgeries are performed in surgical rooms as an outpatient procedure and you should be able to go home within a few hours. Your plastic surgeon should provide you with a phone number in case you have questions to ask.

In my accredited surgery center or my hospital.

7) How long is the recovery period for breast enhancement patients?

An experienced plastic surgeon would review your post-procedure care with you and make sure you understand everything to ensure your normal recovery. It usually takes around 48 hours and you will have scars for a few weeks which will begin to fade over time. It is important that you take a lot of rest to speed up the healing process. Make sure you ask your plastic surgeon prior to committing to anything to give you an idea that he or she cares about his patients more than the financial gain of performing the breast augmentation surgery itself.

usually less than 48 hours you can return to your full normal activities

8) What are the risks of breast augmentation?

Your plastic surgeon should be able to tell you with ease the most common risks of breast augmentation such as hematoma, post-operative infection, capsular contracture, rupture, and interference with mammogram readings. As with any other types of surgeries, there are risks and your doctor should inform you of such so you can make an informed decision.

9) How much does breast augmentation surgery cost?

The cost of breast augmentation in Canada ranges from $5000-$10,000 depending on the type of implants you are looking for. Of course there are overseas options that offer cheaper alternatives, but there are 2 serious points to consider. One is that many of those practitioners have less than clear qualifications which means you will never know for sure what sort of training or education those practitioners have undergone to be considered a “qualified plastic surgeon”. Second, some countries do not have the same rigorous standards as what we have in Canada or North America for that matter. That puts you at greater risk of complications such as infections and all kinds of diseases.

At our breast enhancement clinic in Toronto we take pride in offering our clients affordable fees not just for breast augmentation but for many of our plastic/cosmetic surgery services. Our cosmetic surgery related services are generally 10%-15% lower than most plastic surgery clinics in Canada.

10) How can I see what I would look like prior to the operation?

This is certainly a concern for women who are curious to see what they would look like post-surgery. Before and after photos usually give ideas what outcome you can expect to have. In addition, there are 3D technologies out there that create a visual image of what you could expect to have.

At the clinic, we use state of the art technology Crisalix that allows women to see their "newly-enhanced beauty" prior to committing to anything. It gives them the peace of mind they need and the fee is already included in their initial consultation.
