Forward (This forward is not part of American National Standard O1.1-1.)

In 2002, the Accredited Standards Committee O1 (ASC O1) determined that the parent standard O1.1 was

not adequately serving the needs of its intended audiences. New machines were being introduced into the

workplace, and older machines were becoming obsolete, both at a rate not suitable for a general purpose

standard such as O1.1. Therefore, the committee set forth a process to develop a series of smaller,

machine specific standards. O1.1 would continue to be the general purpose standard for industrial

woodworking machines. Standards for specific machines or topics would use the O1.1 as an umbrella,

covering the general topics of machine and worker safety, with the new standard addressing issues unique

to the machine of interest.

This standard (O1.1-1) is the first such machine specific standard developed under the new process. It,

like all other machine specific standards to come, is maintained by a sub-committee reporting to the full

ASC O1. Questions and inquiries regarding this standard should be addressed to the ASC O1 through the

Secretariat, Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America.

Suggestions for improvement of this standard are welcome. They should be sent to the Wood Machinery

Manufacturers of America (WMMA), 100 North 20th Street, 4th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103-1443,

[email protected].

This standard was processed and approved for submittal to ANSI by the Accredited Standards Committee

O1. Committee approval of this standard does not necessarily imply that all committee members voted for

its approval. At the time it approved this standard, ASC Committee O1 had the following members:
