1. Introduction

This document contains all the information about problems fixed during development of ANSA from version 15.0.2 to version 15.1.0.

NOTES:

•ANSA databases saved by ANSA v15.1.0 can be opened by v15.x.x but not with v14.x.x or previous versions.

2. What’s new in v15.1.0Enhancements – New Options – New Features

GENERAL

Touch Screen

The touch screen application is now introduced. This makes ANSA suitable for presentations and for use on devices without the need of keyboard. This is available for Windows OS only and when touch screen is provided.

• The actions to control the model view:

➢ Zoom in/out

➢ Rotation by (i) a point, (ii) an axis

➢ Panning

• Picking, Confirming and Opening of context menus:

➢ Selecting/Picking (like left mouse button) – One finger tap

➢ Confirming/proceeding (like middle mouse button) – Two fingers tap

➢ Opening of context menus (like right mouse button) – One finger in prolonged tap

Touch Screen

• Selections from model/lists and virtual keyboard

➢ The Touch Assistant controls the selection/deselection operation switch and the virtual keyboard activation. It can be activated through the right-click menu on the toolbar area.

➢ For selections (box type/ lists) it is required one finger tap and dragging.

32-bit Platform

Discontinuation support for Linux OS.

Display Styles

New tool is now introduced that stores the current visibility buttons status under a given name.

The tool stores:

• All buttons that control the visibility of a feature e.g. Wire, Geometry, Shadow, etc.

• The options from the Presentation Parameters tab of the F11 card.

Taskbar window

Now, any ANSA session that is minimized, the name of the opened database is displayed instead of the full path name.

File Open/Save now support progress bar.

Windows Settings

The stored paths in the .xml file (open/input recent) can now be cleared by pressing the respective button.

Settings>General settings

When a session unexpectedly terminates, it is now possible to:

• Save the database (Crash report path)

• Re-open the database (Recover Database path)

To decrease the possibility of loosing the current database when terminating, it is recommended to have the option “Recover Database path” always active.

Settings>Buttons Manager

Now, the standard views (Fi and Ctrl+Fi) can be controlled with user-defined short-cut buttons.

Settings>Resolution

The Curves resolution can now be as low as the Perimeters Length.

Settings>GUI Settings>General

The Rotation Center can now be visible. Its color and radius can be edited.



GUI Special toolbar for the model View and Rotation actions is now supported. Making right-click on any toolbar, the option “Views” can be activated that makes visible this toolbar.

It mainly supports the “F” view buttons and a new one called “Zoom Area”. These will aid the use of devices with no keyboard.

Zoom by a window is now supported under the “Rectangle Zoom” option. The area included in the selection-box will be fitted to the screen.

Zoom in/out Now, zooming with the mouse wheel is possible even when the Ctrl button is pressed.

Focus Select Front Only

Focus functions can now select the front entities (faces, shells and solids) which actually are only drawn according to the current view.

This is a special selection assistant button and applies when selecting with box or polygon selection method.

Near

The “Dense search” option is now supported in order to give more accurate results from big entities, e.g. from faces.

LOCK

The button activation/deactivation can now be controlled through a custom short-cut.

Menubar Utilities>Best

It can now be applied on solid elements facets too.

Lists A tooltip is now provided for the listed items in order to display the whole field when this is not possible due to narrow column width. E.g. the name of a property.

CAD Import / Export

Import JT files can now be imported (translated) directly in ANSA.

IGES reading has been improved for specific cases.

CATIA

• Now, the Annotations are read and they are written to the Comment field of the entity that they refer to.

• User-defined parameters assigned on entities which exist under a geometric set can now be read.

CAD Translators

The size/position of the Translators output window and the File manager window are now saved the file named as TranslGUIOptions.dat, when the button “Save Options” is pressed.

The NX (UGOpen) menu now points to the ansa_ug9.sh run file. Also, the field “Script to run” is now saved when the button Save Options is pressed.

COMPARE

Compare>Build variants

New tool is now supported which creates one new model with the variants of the original models as different configurations in the Parts Manager. For example, a car with first variant the normal roof and second variant the sun roof. When compared, different configurations are created for each variation.



The option Tools>Create New Model in the Compare Report window is now supported. It provides a wizard to simply create the new model from the compared ones, by traveling through all the parts.

The function Tools>Model Updates has been enhanced with new options. Each part can be classified as “Minor difference” or “Major difference” and the respective options are then given.

Now, the Compare filter settings are saved along with the ansa_compare file.

Model differences between the solid description and the middle description can now be identified.

The shell element thickness differences can now be identified. This is applicable only for FE models comparison.

Data Management

Generic Entity Builder (GEB): When Multi-Instantiated parts are selected as “connectivity”, a warning window pops-up where the user can continue or include all Instances.

The option to whether save or not the internal connections/connectors/GEBs is now provided in the Windows>Settings.

Connections & Assembly

View Modes New view modes make possible to overview the model according to the attributed Names and Comments.

Connection Manager The Inspect tool is now available in order to control interactively every connection entity and its connectivities.

The tool opens as a separate window which can be docked and then by choosing from the list or by using the short-cuts inspect one-by-one the selected connections according to options provided.

• The N & P buttons move to the next/previous listed connection

• The 1 to 5 button numbers activate/deactivate the corresponding options.



Connection Manager The available options are:

• Show Connectivity – Shows/Hides the parts that are connected on this connection

• Show all with – Shows the rest of the connections that are connected with the visible parts

• Zoom – For every new selected connection from the list, zooms on the part

• Fe Rep – Shows/Hides the FE representation

New Apply button is now provided. When the settings of FE Representation are changed, they can be applied on the selected connection entities by pressing this button.

Connection entities now are not Erased/Realized if they have status FROZEN_DELETE=YES. A warning message pops-up to confirm.

New entity is now available to support the FEMSITE-ROBSCAN representation.

BOLTs New option Use Bolt Geometry (yes/no) is now available to align the body either (i) perpendicularly or (ii) according to the bolt's direction.

Convert FE to Seamline

The RBE3-CONNECTOR-RBE3 representation can now be converted.

Connection to Connection

While the function is active the rest of the model turns to transparent view mode.

User Attributes They are now also accessible through the Connection Manager, in the right-click list of options.

CHECKs Flanges Weld Spots

Flanges with no connections are now reported separately.

Template Support of the option to apply scripts on the Fe-representation of a template, using the field “Post Realize Function”.

FE Representations

SOLID BOLT New option is now supported to dis-associate the mesh of the Head from the Body.

BOLT_ON_SOLID The option to attach on “Bottom Ring” is now also provided.

BEAM_BOLT • Now, the Shank diameter can be defined

• The rings can now be skipped with the option “skip tube rings” in the Interface section

• A new Shank scheme “BEAM BOLT” is now available that combines Beam and Solid elements.

SPIDER2 The option to define the number of affected zones is now supported under the name “Num of shell zones affected”. If left blank, a default value is considered.

SOLID NUGGED The Scheme CONTACT supports new field “Orient Solids by” in the Body section of the settings. Two options are available:

• Fusion Zone – Follows the orientation of the hole

• Flange – Follows the flow of the flange

RBE3-SHELL-RBE3 New option “Weld Shell Thickness Factor” is now provided.

RBE3-CONNECTOR-RBE3

The coordinate system is now defined on node.

FEMSITE-SPOTWELD

The button “Directories” is now provided at the bottom area of the FE REP settings section, which opens directly to the Windows>Settings>Connections>Femsite-Spotweld.

TOPO

CONS Project

Support of the option to create curves at the intersection with the faces, instead of cutting them.

Project

The option “Paste” is now provided. If the distance between the source entities (cons, curves) and the target faces smaller than the “Cons Matching Distance” (Tolerances); they will be pasted.

Release>Volumes

New function to disconnect geometrical volumes that have been topologically pasted.

• The function works on visible faces

• Even one selected face is enough for the function to identify the volumes and disconnect them

CONS Open Hole

• The direction of the hole can now be modified, by moving/rotating the coordinate system

• New option “Produce Cylinder” creates the cylinder between two or more selected faces that the hole axis intersects with.

Faces Mid. Surface>Calculate Thickness

The thickness can now be assigned either on nodes or on properties, according to the inserted step value.

Casting

Now the information of material and property names & attributes are transferred from the original volume parts to the new middle extracted parts.



Faces Flanges>Simplify

New function that simplifies the flanges shape.

• The desired red conses have to be selected by simple pick or by area selection method

• These cut-patterns are discriminated from the main flange by hot points at the start and end points

• Multiple cut-patterns can be selected in one step

Alternatively, the function converts the rounded areas to sharp edges. The only requirement is that the area has to be marked by hot points at the start/end points.

Fuse>Project

New option that projects and connects every visible single (red) CONS to the visible neighboring faces. The maximum searching distance is taken from the current value of Nodes matching distance (Windows>Settings).

Plane Cut

Now, progress bar is supported.

Surfaces Fillet>Surfaces

The former Fillet function is now relocated as sub-option.

Fillet>Faces

New function is now introduced that creates continues fillets from multiple faces.

• Selection of yellow CONs is required

• The orientation of faces does not affect the result

• The created fillet has constant radius

Points On COG>Points & Relative

Selection assistant tools (e.g. Feature Line) are now supported.

The value fields now follow the resizing of the window, so that long values can be visible.

SHELL MESH

Perimeters Number & Num+/-

The displayed numbers on every perimeter now refer to the counted edges instead of nodes.

Perimeters Spacing>Auto CFD

• Trailing edge refinement now contains user control angle

• Interior type faces are now checked for both sides proximity

• The mesh growth between size boxes and near perimeters is now smooth

• It is now possible to select the perimeters/macros to apply

Shell Mesh Reconstruct / Reshape / Batch / Split

New option “Freeze>Line elements” in Mesh Parameters is now provided. Elements (e.g. RBE2) sharing nodes with shell elements follow the resulting mesh, if the option is not active.

Project

When the source curves/edges/perimeters describe a closed loop, the new option “Open closed perimeter hole” can be used to delete the included by the projection elements.

Fix Quality

The 2nd nodes can now be constrained. They respect the option “Maximum distance from perimeter” of the Mesh Parameters.

Volumize>Composites

New option is now supported that converts the shell to solid laminates, creating also a new SOLID_LAMINATE property.



Checks Sharp Edges

An automatic “Fix” option is now provided for the detected errors.

Scripting The function MultiNumber supports the nodal renumbering of multiple perimeters.

Layers

The Y+ calculator is now supported.

Scripting Support of the VoxelGeneration function in both python and Beta scripting language.

Batch Meshing

Scenario It is now possible to load script functions on every scenario. Two separate scripts can be loaded to be run, one at the start and another one at the end of every scenario.

The scripts are loaded through the right-click menu of the scenario, at the “Script” option.

Scripting Support of Layers and Wrap creation, using the functions:

Input The location where all the “log” files are stored (e.g. ANSA_Input.log) can now be defined in Windows>Settings>General Settings.

Output When variable element thickness is detected and the option to export this information is not active, a warning message is displayed.

General Connectors / GEBs

When Multi-Instantiated parts are selected for the Connectivity field, a warning window prompts whether to keep only the selected part or all the multi-instances.

In addition, the Module Id of the Multi-Instantiated part is also displayed.

General Mat Sync

The NASTRAN fields “A” and “TREF” of *MAT1 are now transferred to Abaqus *BEAM_SECTION fields “ZERO” and “ALPHA”.

Now, two target options are provided: (i) the number of elements and (ii) the element length.

The warning messages are now more informative.

The support of Multi-thread run has significantly reduced the processing time.

The number of detected elements is now also reported.

Sharp Edges

Fix option is now supported, affecting the defined number of zones.

Flanges Weld Spots

The option “Maximum weld spot distance” is now also available.

D.Info New option Part Image is now supported in the Model tab. It adds a small image next of each part at the mass information section.

Now, most of the quality criteria are now available for Shell and Solid tabs.

It is now possible to add/remove ranges for every criterion, using the +/- buttons. Additionally, the number of Classes can be up to 100.

New option Synchronize updates the Classes (ranges) of the criteria with the values from the F11 card. In case that only the “Failed” value is used (not ranges), the synchronization will transfer this value in the middle Class of D.Info.

Results Mapper

The Nodal thickness mapping now supports also the COMMON AREA Interpolation method. This converts the incoming nodal thickness to average element thickness and as a result all the nodes of each element have the same thickness values.

New field “user_script_apply_args” is now provided in order to add user arguments, e.g. To apply specific STEP.

The offset of Layup files is now read.

Laminates New option “Apply Thickness to elements” is supported in the right-click menu. It applies the defined thickness of the Layers so that the actual element thickness is equal to the layers' total thickness.

Now, multiple copy of the selected Layers can be created by using the option Copy>Multiple Copy in the right-click menu.

Laminates The Mapped Data window now supports also the options to (i) Filter the listed items and to (ii) Modify.

Pedestrian • The flag “Transparency” is now provided in the Target Points section.

• The option “Boundaries only” is now provided for creation of the boundary Reference lines only. The option is located in the Advanced options of Car Marking tab.

• Insert a Target point on the BLE curves by inserting a value corresponding to the y-axis.

The curves created for the WAD lines representation are now added in different SETs according to the protocol.

Tools

Results Based Refinement

A new tool is now available in ANSA as a script. Its purpose is to set up and drive a process within ANSA for refining the mesh in areas of high interest based on results output by the solver.

During this process ANSA drives the solver (NASTRAN or Abaqus) and μΕΤΑ in a loop. If ANSA starts with the Durability layout, the tool is automatically loaded and available in Windows > User Script Buttons > Tools > Auto Refine. Alternatively, the button can be loaded from Tools > Script > Load by reading the main.pyb file from the scripts/ResultsBasedRefinement/ folder in ANSA installation directory. Documentation is also available.

The script is located in the installation directory of ANSA at: .../scripts/Auxiliaries/ResultsBasedRefinement)
