From the Pastor’s Desk

We are coming close to Christmas and we pause to be joyful. We pause to

remember for a moment the great blessing that God has given us in being

able to be offered the great gift given us at Christmas of Jesus. We can take

this for granted, and our society causes us to focus on many other things, but

amid the final rush of Christmas let us remember that God loves us and has

come to be present with us in Jesus Christ - there is something in this gift

that we can each receive this Christmas - it is a cause for Joy!

This past Sunday we had a celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guade-

loupe. About 100 people attended the Mass and the meal afterwards. It was

a wonderful display of community and the type of event that we have spoken

about having more of in order to provide more social connection in our com-

munity. We are indeed blessed with so many good people in our parish.

We had a productive School Committee meeting this past week. At present

the school is financially stable and we have enrolled a few more new stu-

dents. We are continuing to build a stronger school and the word is getting

out. We will be implementing changes in January to make our pre-school

program even more affordable, and are investing in curriculum improvements

and will be bringing in some of the elements I told you about before. It is a

school that was poised for a comeback and is now making one. Thanks be

to God for this.

I have had contact with the architect who will be drawing up plans for the

handicap access. I hope to begin work on this this winter. I has been long in

coming, but we are closer to the move. I appreciate the patience, this all has

taken much longer than I hoped it would. We also are moving to the next

phase of the renovation to the convent. Many aspects of this needed to be

discussed with the architect and others and we will be taking the next step.

If you have not gotten the chance to look at the financial report there are ad-

ditional copies in the back of the church and an electronic copy is available

on the website. A lot of work went into this and it helps to highlight the work

the Finance Committee is doing. You will all be getting a report from the

Capitol Committee after Christmas to describe the many needed repairs that

must be done to our physical plant and a plan for this. After examining the

report, and seeing our current needs, I have decided to increase my personal

weekly offering by $5.00. A little bit that I will hardly miss, but when added to

others, will help to address the forward looking concerns in the report.

Our hospital ministry under the direction of Deacon Stan and our Prison Min-

istry under Dave Bourgeois are doing well. I have seen some of the first

hand wonderful ministry at the hospital, and this past week’s Mass at the

prison was one of the best attend since I have been going there. In addition,

after the Mass at one of our nursing homes I saw the wonderful work being

done by our parishioners ministering to the people there. It is such a privi-

lege to be part of the Lord’s loving touch reaching out to those who are sick,

or lonely, or forgotten - truly we do the work of God when we extend our wor-

ship of God in church to such ministry as this. Maybe this is one of the ways

Jesus will visit some of these individuals at Christmas.

God Bless You,

Fr. Steve

Annunciation Parish Mission Statement:

Strengthened by the Eucharist, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ we seek by worship and service to compassionately

meet the corporal and spiritual needs of our parish family and beyond. We desire to warmly welcome the stranger and one another, and

together reach a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In doing this, we are committed to the caring and ongoing Christian formation of

others by providing opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and social growth within our faith and local community.

For those who are new to the parish or returning after some time away, we would like to welcome you to our

Catholic community. In this bulletin you will find many opportunities to be enriched and involved. If you would

like to register as a member or have any questions, you can call us at 978-632-0253, email us at

[email protected], or you can stop by the Parish Office during the week.

Be the Welcoming Face of Our Parish

This Christmas

We are in need of Greeters to come early to all of our

Christmas Masses and welcome all who are visiting us,

and stay after for just a few minutes to help hand out our

gifts to the parish. People of all ages may participate in

this important ministry. All that is required is a desire to

welcome others with Christmas joy and the ability to

come early and stay a few minutes late. Sign up sheets

have been placed at the back of both churches or you

may contact the office and ask to speak to Mrs.

Sweeney.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

With Jesus, our Intercessor, and the Holy Spirit, the Light that guides us, we gather together twice a

month for one hour to pray for the needs of our faith community and the world. We offer our petitions and give praise, honor, and thanks

to our heavenly Father for His unconditional love and mercy through various prayers of the Church, song, Sacred Scripture, silent reflec-

tion and sharing. If this prayer style interests you, consider joining us.

For further information please contact

Louise Plamondon at 978-632-8679

child.

Knights of Columbus Christmas in Poland Exhibit

For the 14th consecutive year, the Knights of Columbus Museum is displaying artistic representations of the birth of Jesus at the center

of its Christmas exhibition, Christmas in Poland. The show features more than 100 items, some from the museum’s own collection.

The show will be on display beginning February 3rd, 2019. The Knights of Columbus Museum is located on 1 State Street in New Ha-

ven.

Highlights include: Szopki from Krakow, hand carved wooden crèches and traditional Polish clothing. Open 10:00a.m.—5:00p.m. daily.

Free admission and parking. More information available at 203-865-0400 or kofcmuseum.org

Winter Weather Policy

Masses will be offered each day as scheduled, regardless of weather.

However, if schools in Gardner are cancelled, and the cancellation falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the 7:30am Mass will be held at Holy

Rosary instead of Holy Spirit (same 7:30a.m. time, but different location).

It is up to the individual parishioner to determine if it is safe for them to come to Mass given their age, type of trans-

portation, and condition of the roads in their area. Our Lord is pleased that you attend Mass as often as possible,

but does not want you to get into a car accident in the process.

Adult Confirmation

There can be many reasons why someone isn’t confirmed at a younger age, but no reason why we can’t re-

ceive confirmation as adults when we feel called by the Holy Spirit to receive the sacrament. Each year our

diocese holds a Confirmation celebration specifically for adults (18 +) in February for those who have come to

a point in their lives where they wish to complete their initiation into the church through this sacrament. For

most who went through faith formation (CCD or Catholic School) when they were younger the preparation pro-

cess is fairly simple. This year’s Adult Confirmation will be held on Feb. 3

rd

at the Cathedral. If you would like

to know more about how you can prepare for Confirmation please contact Mrs. Sweeney in the Religious Ed.

Office at [email protected] or 978-632-0253.
