sector.During the year SES has made commendable efforts in promotion of livelihoods in rural area of Uttar Pradesh through farm & non-farm activity. The efforts made by SES through trainings, studies and consultative dialogues have opened up greater livelihood & opportunities for community. On Health Front, It has tried to work for elimination of dreaded disease of Japanese Encephalitis. In the process, it has organized several campaign & workshop with various stakeholders.

On other hand, it has continued its work on reproductive, sexual, maternal & child health issue along with tuberculosis. As you know water is vital necessity for all on this planet. In 2010, general assembly of

UnitedNation declared water & sanitation human right. It was found 88 % of all

disease is caused by unsafe drinking water & inadequate sanitation. SES with its

partners has sensitized people on water & sanitation issue.

This annual reports includes activities of SES. I would like to thank our board and

AUTHOR’S NOTE

Growing up in rural area and career shaping years in urban area, has given

me ample scope to learn about social, psychological & economic aspect of

Indian society with different lenses. Country’s economic growth &

mushrooming wealth in the city amaze outsiders. The current development

in the cities has bypasses rest of 70 % population of India, living in villages.

In rural area, life is very tough & they have to fight for bread & butter daily.

SES has started working in rural area of Uttar Pradesh in early 1985 & it has found there is need

for development in terms of social, economic & environmental aspect. SES believes that

problems do exist in urban area. It has started working in urban area from last two years. In last

two decades, SES has implemented variety of programme which includes food security,

education, health & environment.

This annual reports looks back at progress made over year 2011-12. It gives insightful information

about SES & Its work. For those who are interested to know more about SES can visit its website

or contact SES team.

I would like to thank SES management for giving me an opportunity to write about effective

work of SES.

Thank You,

Sandeep

Issues .SES work with rural communities of Uttar Pradesh as well as unprivileged group in urban area of

Uttar Pradesh.SES treats all employees equally irrespective of their caste, creed, sex or religion. All

employee work harmonically. SES has some inherent values borrowed from its founder member: Honesty,

Trust and Team Work. SES also commits to support to Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact with

respect to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Over the years SES has established its identity in Uttar Pradesh. Years of Perseverance, dedication,

determination of SES towards pious social cause is appreciated in 2011. Economic & Social Council of United

Nation accorded SES Special Consultative Status in year 2011.

Where We Work

Part I: About SES

Annual Report 2011-12

Amongst all the remote areas in India, SES has started with one of the most challenging places for its

work. Eastern Part Of Uttar Pradesh which lags behind in social & economic indicator in comparison of

developed part of state as well as country.

Figure 3: Working Area of SES

These parts are affected by regular floods lead to loss of crops which push the farmers into debt and

add to the shortage of food resulting in poor health conditions of people. The problem doesn’t end

here; rather, it marks the beginning of complex problem. People, who have some kind of financial

stability, migrate to cities in the quest of better job opportunities and livelihood. People, who don’t

migrate, keep juggling with cultivation in the flood prone area. The havoc of flood leave the land

deprived of fertility and farmers baffled in extreme poverty.

Eastern district has been a victim of regular floods for a long time. The key strategiesto address issue are

formation of CBOs, raising awareness & strengthening

them through training, meeting, information sharing,

linking with PRI, government’s schemes, agricultural institution & market, lobbying, advocacy &

technological support with non- violent approach.

Through the formation of various groups, beneficiaries would be trained to prepare themselves for the

after effects of natural disaster. They would be taught about various ways of livelihood that can be

exercised in flood prone area. People will be provided with information about the significance and use of

various scientific methods which not only increase the fertility of soil but increases productivity also

and provide a means of livelihood to the farmers round the year. In Uttar Pradesh, SES works in 30

districts including state capital of Lucknow. It includes rural & urban areas of those districts.

What We Do

SES in its project we particularlyfocus with unprivileged or vulnerable group. These groups comprise of

child, women, youth & elderly people.SES does not involve in development directly but catalyze

development process in target area, by involving community in each step (from planning to implement).

SES believes in bottom up approach rather than of top up approach. It means, community tells about

their problem/need to SES & SES tries to find out the way with involvement of them & other

community stakeholders. SES considers it as inevitable way for success &sustainability of project. .

SES founder envisioned for a society where everyone achieve person happiness & wellbeing. A person

can achieve personal happiness & wellbeing when his/her basic needs are fulfilled. If everyone can

achieve happiness & wellbeing, people will live in peace & harmony.

Merely Envisioning or developing a vision statement won’t work in practicality. For it, one need to

develop a mission which can turn SES founders vision into reality.

VISION: Working For a Society Where Everyone Achieve Personal Happiness&Wellbeing.

Part I: About SES

community based organization such as Self Help Group(SHG), Farmers Club, Disaster

Management Committee (DMC) Youth Information Center (YIC) etc. The target

communities are from unprivileged/ vulnerable group irrespective of religion or caste.

SES helps in capacity building of community related to crucial issue in the area. Organization

also organize & participate in workshop with its staff & stakeholder to update about new things

happening pertaining to their particular issue.

SES also plan for preparedness with community in time of disaster & provide relief as per need

of time.

Working in Coordinated manner, so everyone can live in peace & harmony.

SES also works to conduct crucial research & its documentation,So there can be improvement in

programme of development.

MISSION:

To Work towards improving health services.

To Work for Efficient & Effective way of education where child go to school.

Capacity Building of community so they can fight back with adverse situation & have

basic needs of food, health & education.

To work with Pro nature approach towards social problem & find solution in ecological

sustainable manner.

Part I: About SES

Annual Report 2011-12

SES believes that poverty alleviation cannot be done overnight. There are several issues

&causes which cannot be understand without any integrated approach. SES always tries to

integrate all issue related to poverty whether it is health, education, agriculture, food security in

changing environment circumstances. While working, SES tries to blend to various approaches.

The reason of adopting this approach is not to miss knowledge & experience of various

stakeholders in programme. For instance, In Agriculture, we try to incorporate traditional,

indigenous knowledge along with scientific knowledge & technology. Our focus area of

activities & work are as follows:

Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security: The area where SES is operating, 70 % people are

dependent on agriculture. Paddy is one of their main crops. But in last few years, flood has made

their life miserable. Inundation of water or water logging in the field lead to loss of crop.

Ultimately, he remains with meager sum if he works on other crops. Sometimes, it is difficult to

have two time meals for his/her family. In the area, large numbers of women are involved in

agriculture. They are burdened with household as well as field work. At the time of flood, when

family lacks two time meals, she shares her part of food to children. Lack of food minus

nutritional content lead them into various diseases common to the area.

Health: SES has started with its first health project in late 90s. The theme of project was

“Aware people about Iodine Deficiency Disorder”. After that demand and issues of health care

from village has led SES to other health issues in the region. Water Borne disease, Japanese

Encephalitis, malaria & malnutrition are very common disease in the region. In the years, SES

has focused on issue of maternal & infant mortality rate, transmission of HIV/AIDS,

reproductive& child health, malnutrition, sexual & reproductive issue.

Education: Education is recognized as one of the basic building block for development of human

being and critical in poverty alleviation. It is consider an important millennium development

Part I: About SES

Annual Report 2011-12

goal. In the villages of rural & slums of urban area, education is considered as least important.

Attending school means loss of productivity to a household. A farmer involves their children in

field. Sometimes elder child stay at home to take care of their younger when there are parents

are busy in field work. Education is one of important focus area of SES. In its work it has

promoted education for children, women or old man with several of its programme. There are

some cases where SES stop prevented drop out in most of cases.

Water & Sanitation: SES was born with local safe drinking water issue in town of Shohratgarh.

SES has considered water as precious. Inadequate & safe sources lead to water borne disease. In

some cases, Girls walk long distance to carry water. From time to time, SES has run various

programme. At village level, it has sensitized community about water & sanitation issue &

advocate for their issue with Village Health & Sanitation Committee (VHSC). SES considers

Children as most important stakeholder in many of its programme. SES has implemented

several programme in schools which caters issue of Water & Sanitation.

Climate Change & Disaster Management: Generally, climate change is defined as a process of

global warming, in part attributable to the ‘greenhouse gases’ generated by human activity.

Irrespective of region, changes are both global, as with rising sea levels attributable

to ice-melt, and local, such as changes in rainfall patterns. In the target region Of SES, it has

disturbed basic source of their livelihood i.e agriculture in form of flood & changing pattern of

rainfall. Responses to climate change are to reduce the level or rate of change(mitigation) or

manage its consequences (adaptation). Local people have tried to adapt in current scenario. In

case of paddy, SES inspired community to do early paddy cultivation to avoid loss by flood, also

using SRI technique.

Gender Rights: Though SES worked with right based approach. But, SES also focus on women

living in targeted region. In the region, women are always grappled with discrimination due to

patriarchy & other social system. If a women is dalit, she is alienated thrice by caste (being

Part I: About SES

Annual Report 2011-12

lower than others),by class(being most poor) & by gender (due to patriarchy).Issue like child

Marriage, dowry & domestic violence(remains inside closets of house ). SES has tried to

improve condition by setting up various CBOs for instance SHGs, involving them in income

generation activity & building their capacity.

How We Work:

There is an advisory body of SES which forms its governing structure. Currently, there are 9

members. They advise on taking up of projects & budgets. On other hand, governing body is

responsible for supervision of programmes. Secretary of SES manages day to day activities of

organization. Acting Secretary with Secretary develop & supervise developmental programme,

financial & organizational planning of organization of ongoing & upcoming projects.

A project Coordinator is assigned to every project & is responsible for action & implementation

of programme activities. Under Him, there is field workers & volunteer & help in smooth &

impactful implementation of progarmme. Administration & Account department is fully

responsible for administrative & financial activities of SES. These departments& a project head

too monitor & evaluate basic programme activity regularly.

In SES, every staff is equal irrespective of their caste & religion. In addition to staff, there are

number of consultants who give their inputs in programme from time to time. They are from

field of Agriculture, WASH, Health, Horticulture, and Social science & Economy.

Our partner organizations at local, state, national & international level are very crucial to work.

We are grateful to their continuous contribution, support, feedback which has helped us to run

programme effectively & efficiently.

FOOD SECURITY & AGRICULTURE: IN DISASTER PRONE AREA.

“ “Socio Economic Empowerment of farmers in flood prone areas in Eastern U.P. with livelihood opportunities”

It is evident that progress of any societyis inevitably linked with social & economic plights of their

people. For progress, people need to act with their full might. Empowerment is one of the ways to

move ahead. It can be done with creation of various local group like SHGs & farmer club along with

strengthening process. SES found that SHG is created but there are still gaps which they need to

overcome. What one cannot achieve as an individual can fulfill as member of groups with good

understanding about his/her rights, privileges, roles & responsibilities as dignified member of society.

The need of hour is their awareness about self, high self-esteem, self-confidence, courage, positive

attitude, and risk taking ability, power to face challenges of daily life, gaining knowledge, new ideas &

skill. As a group they can stand up as problem solver & planner for their own village. They also can

enjoy privilege of economic benefit including saving, liberation from debt trap, economic skill for

income generation activity & able to meet other needs. It is “people” who can turn around their

fortune. In other words transformation of consciousness of alternatives & collective action to

congregate appropriate chain to influence those factors that acts as barrier to meeting their aspiration.

It needs to depart from not only focusing on financial angles but also other capacity and skills.

Proposal emphasize on self-reliant community who are interested in their own development whether it

is improving income from agriculture or other income generation activities.

The District of Siddharthnagar lies in eastern portion of Uttar Pradesh in between 27° 7’ to 27° 3’

North latitude and 82° 1’ to 83° 8’ East longitude and forms a part of Basti Division. It is bounded on

the North by Nepal country, South by District SantKabir Nagar, East by District Maharajganj and on

the West by the territories of District Balrampur. Its geographical shape is like a bowl with a length of

65 Kms. North to South having the total area of 2956 Sq. Kms, which is about 1.2% of the total area of

U.P.Around 71.0 per cent of Main workers are engaged in agriculture as cultivators and agricultural

labourers. Around 79.0 percent of reporting area comes under the plough. The main crops are Paddy,

Wheat, Arhar, Masoor and Sugarcane. The district is adversely affected with floods and water logging

during monsoon season and this damages the crops and human property. On basis of aforesaid

foundation said initially, a programme in intiated in 16 villages of Jogia block of district

Siddharthnagar.

SES has started programme “Socio Economic Empowerment of farmers in flood prone areas in district

with livelihood opportunities”. SES has developed on these lines where people came together in a group

such as Self Help Group & Farmers club. The aim of programme is to provide two time meals to 500

families in target area by enhancing their income. The activity of these groups is developed with

participation of community members. First thing is strengthening of these community based

organization. As more than 90 % people are dependent on farming activities in selected village. SES has

formed Farmer club to catalyze the farming process. In the year ,total 25 farmers club were formed. From

sowing to providing marketing/technological issue is forte of FC which helps fellow farmers to improve

their lives. The farming activities taken up by FCs are: Crop Improvement, Vegetable production,

Backyard cultivation, and new package of paddy, cash crop, paddy cultivation of SRI technique and

conservation of Kala namak(in block Shohratgarh). The activity is supported by seed distribution to

providing right kind of fertilizer. Farmer has developed their fertilizer like AmritPanni and Farm Yard

Manure Pit. SES staff has also appeased farmers to do farming of Kala Namak. In years, area for

kalanamak has been reduced but seeing mid- development in farming; more farmers are ready to do this

activity from next years. While doing these activities, they were also provided with capacity building

/Training by SES . An expert from particular issue has imparted training with participatory approach.

In case of SRI, farmers were visited field outside the target area. In the case of SHG, people have

developed saving attitude for any future emergency at decided interest rate. In the year , 21 SHGs were

formed. On the other hand,Non-farm activities are related with self- help group. SES has planned to do

goat rearing and buffalo keeping. On basis of survey, SES staff has selected (mainly women) who are

interested in goat rearing (intensive village by 8 women and 2 people from non-intensive village)..

Through availed revolving fund, young she-goat will be provided to each of the 10 poorest of the poor in

group. The understanding behind was that anybody whose goat gave birth , are required to return an

equal number of goats to the group for redistribution to other members who did not get assistance during

the first round. There is also study which tried to find out opportunity of milk marketing in the area.

The target people are selected for activity. Other than performing activity in these groups, project staff

provides information on government schemes & their rights in the scheme. MNREGA campaign was

one of the activities which tried to increase awareness level of community. It has been responded well by

community & gram pradhan of villages. Last Year activity is given below:

HEALTH:

Life is not easy in rural & eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. People have to work hard in changing

climate with various health issues. Villages face various health issues from birth to death. Maternal

& Infant mortality is high in the region, premature babies, malnourished babies . In early part of

their lives they face other facet of disease related to Sexual & reproductive health(SRH) issue.

Traditional & economical pressure force parents to marry their children early. Sometimes, it lead to

sexual disease or early pregnancy. As a result, they die at early age. Discussing reproductive & sexual

health issue in home or age group considered as taboo. Men are too engaged in their physical

hardship & most of times their disease are related to their work. Women are burdened with

REPRODUCTIVE & SEXUAL HEALTH OF YOUTH :

“Increasing the reproductive & sexual health of young people by increasing age at marriage”

Early Marriage and Early child Pregnancy is a multi-faceted problem; deep rooted in culture and

system. It is also strongly related to economic circumstances, in addition to removing the economic

burden on their parent’s household; younger bridge typically attain higher status husband with lower

dowries. The impact of early marriage on girls and to a lesser extent on boys is wide ranging. It

initiates a devastating cycle of poverty, exploitation and poor health. And early marriage almost

always deprives girls of their basic right to education or participation in meaningful work, which

contributes to persistent poverty. District Siddharthnagar is backward district of UP as well as

known TARAI area. Literacy rate is very poor. On Basis of secondary data, Infant mortality Rate,

Maternal Mortality Rate and reproductive health status is not satisfactory due to lack of information,

lack of awareness and unavailability of qualitative health services. Early Marriage and Early

As per district level health survey (DLHS-3, 2007-08), there are 63.1 % of girl’s married before

completing 18 years (67.1 % for rural & 53.8 % in Urban Area). There are 14 blocks in district. Jogia

is one of the block .In March 2009; Shohratgarh Environmental Society with support of MAMTA

has started working in Jogia Block. The objective is “Improving Reproductive & Sexual Health of

Young People by Addressing Issues of Prevention of Early Marriage & Early Preganancy”. There are 123

target villages in Jogia Block. From last three years, our programme has made significant impact

on community. In reality, As NGO, we struggle to do media advocacy on any issue. Generally, it

is limited to one article publication of any incident. We have rarely seen media article related to

social issue has made impact. In 2010, MAMTA has initiated media fellowship for issue of early

marriage. A Reporter of “Indian Express” has given responsibility to bring success story from work

done in project area. She has visited target area & has interviewed community & youth. Youth has

confidentially shared their views & experience of early Marriage. There were incident when they

protested against early marriage or gauna * (Second Marriage). The News was published in Indian

Through this article, The National Commission for protection of Child rights (NCPCR) has taken note

of Early Marriage in district. NCPCR has asked District administration “About incident of early

marriage in district & what is action taken by administration to prevent Early Marriage.” Representative

from District administration has visited two villages of Dohani&Badgo. They have found those youth

who has protested against

Early Marriage. They asked their parents to come and submit an affidavit that they will not marry their

children before they attain legal age. Though, firstly they were baffled. Our staff convinced them. They

were told that is not a case against them but they have to state that they will marry their children at right

age. They were agreed and submitted their affidavit before district administration. In Our NGO

fraternity, we often complain about lack of coordination of various stakeholders. This case is sheer

example where every stakeholder has handled case with maturity which resulted in positive outcome.

This case has proven, if there is will, there is way.

TUBERCULOSIS:

Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is an

airborne infection. Those who have tuberculosis of the lungs are the ones who can spread the disease

to others. When these infectious people cough, sneeze, talk or spit, they can spread TB bacteria into

the air in form of tiny droplets. Tuberculosis remains one of the major public health problems in

India with a significant impact on the health and economy of the country. The risk of getting the

disease among those infected with TB is 10-15% during the lifetime, which increases to 10% per year

amongst those co-infected with HIV.Under Project Axshya ,SES is working on the issue in district

WATER &SANITATION :

In current scenario ,the most difficult challenge for community in rural as well as urban area is to get

safe drinking water .India has 16 % of world population & 4 % of its fresh water resources.

Inadequate access to safe water & sanitation services, coupled with poor hygiene practices, kills 3900

children everyday. In 2010, general assembly of United Nation declared safe & clean drinking water

& sanitation is a human right essential. SES is born out of drinking water issue & it is always core

focus of SES. SES is hosting organization of FANSA(Fresh Water Action Network South Asia)

U.P. Chapter. In this context, SES aims to improve governance in WASH sector by strengthening

the role of civil society in decision making. It considers both environmental & developmental aspect

as crucial for realization of the right to water& sanitation for present and future generations. As

FANSA U.P. Chapter is innascent stage, it is trying to sensitize various stakeholders from farmers to

school children etc. SES with FANSA U.P. Chapter works in 8 districts of Uttar Pradesh on

rotational basis. Activity & Achievements in the year are:

Translation and dissemination of 4th South Asia Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN-IV)

declaration. SEShas tried to bring that Colombo declaration to community. Hindi is widely

spoken language of Uttar Pradesh. First thing it was translated in Hindi. So large number of

people can understand commitment of our government & work together towards those goals.

SES has shared the declaration with various stakeholders such as community,SHGs,Farmers

Club, NGOs, media & network members. As impact of programme , NGO has integrated

the water & sanitation issue in their ongoing programme.

On the other hand bundelkhand region is always short of water. Urban city like Lucknow is

also facing problem of water & sanitation. So, what is solution for tackling these problems??

The answer is: Awareness & Advocacy. In this quarter, Awareness and Local WASH

advocacy activities have been done with community, school children, college students &

Government functionaries. In Process, to activate community, Local Health worker youth &

government functionary on issue of Wash in District Lucknow, Mahoba&Siddharthnagar .In all

recommendation is given after study:

I. A long term program with a scientific approach to monitor the nutritional level of the vulnerable

group and its implications in terms of the epidemic should be designed.

II. Coordination between different departments of the government such as health, veterinary,

environment and social welfare should be assured. and a collective resource group should access and

design a long term comprehensive program and design to fight against the deadly disease.

III. Safe and pure drinking water should be made available to everyone

IV. Preventive measures to be taken in the vulnerable areas should be scientifically redesigned and

executed.

V. The untrained /quacks should be empowered with knowledge and information’s to assure the

proper and timely referral of the patients for specialized advise.(As we cannot ignore their presence and

the role in the field )

VI. Simultaneous vaccination of humans and animals should be done in order to minimize the risk

factor.

WORLD WALKS FOR WATER FOR WATER & SANITATION 2012

There is no doubt that natural resources and

sustainable development is inext ricably linked. The

way in which people and natural landscapes interact.

It brings together land use planning, water

management, biodiversity conservation, and the

future sustainability of agriculture, fisheries and

forestry etc. For Example: Once viewed as an infinite

and bountiful resource, water today defines human,

social, and economic development. If we look at the

present scenario, we are leading towards crisis. About

85 % of rural population in India is solely depended

on ground water, which is depleting at a fast rate. In

the urban areas though about 60% of the population is depended on surface water sources, the

availability and quality are questionable. The way work of development has been done, it has depleted

water level, affected biodiversity and quality of soil. It recognises that people and their livelihoods

rely on the health and productivity of our mother earth.SES has organized two events. The place will

be district Siddharthnagar (17THMARCH) & Lucknow City (19TH MARCH).The purpose of

organizing two events is to create awareness on issue in rural & urban area simultaneously.

In Lucknow, events were organized in Sunrise Public School, Kalyanpur. Total participant were

110(Children & Teachers).Initially, students were sensitized about issue of water, sanitation & their

linkage with education, health. They were told about "World Walks for Water & Sanitation". They

also knew about "why is the world walking for water and sanitation in March 2012?”

Figure 6: School Children walks for water & sanitation in Lucknow

In Lucknow, It was started from School & passed

through KanchanBihariMarg .It has covered whole

Kalyanpur Area. Around 1000 people were sensitized.

Two types of handbill were also distributed. In the

event, student has carrierd the placard with slogans.

Slogans were in vernacular language Hindi and

English.

Slogans were as follows:

Do not be a fool , cover your pool.

Save water, it will save you later!

Saving water one drop at a time

16 Put a stop to the drop

Don't waste it, just taste it!

Save water! Save Life!

Saving water can save the world

Similarly event was organized in PPS Public School, Shohratgarh. 203 participants (children &

teachers).Students from class V to XII were participated. Principal Pateshwari Prasad has started the

programme with sharing importance of water & sanitation. The walk has started from PPS Public

School & ends in main market in the town.

EMPOWERMENT &EDUCATION :

SES believes in philosophy of “जेन केन बिधि दीन्हें। दान करई कल्यान”. It means “donation will

benefit you by whatever method you do”. After several time visit of the place, SES has decided it to

be firstprogramme which is directly benefit orphans. Out of a total of about 55 millions children of

Part II: Progress & Achievement 2011-2012

Annual Report 2011-12

ages 0-12 years, and an overall population of 150 millions. Today, orphans remain a burden of extended

families although most of these are living from hand to mouth in a situation, these families who can

hardly take care of their own children naturally find it almost impossible to take in an extra child.

Such a school named – Brahmrishi Bawra SiddharthVidyapeeth is run in Uska Bazaar block of

district Siddharthnagar. Siddharthnagar is one of the backward district of India

Most of people are dependent on agriculture or unskillful work. They have no choices in life. For

orphans the situation is even more difficult. With education and useful skills they can do whatever

they want, otherwise they have no choice in life. If they want to do business they will be equipped to

do it well. If they want to pursue higher education they will have the necessary knowledge, if they

want to work for the government they can do the job well. People who are educated and can think

about what is right and what is wrong will obey the rules and be of benefit to society. people who are

poor and have no education have no choices, no discrimination between what is right and what is

wrong, they don’t know how to take care of themselves or their family; they can become thieves,

criminals- a problem to society. for orphans the situation is even more difficult. They have no one to

properly care for them; they are without home, without basic livelihood and without opportunities. So

it is more meaningful and urgent to build school to care for the orphan children. Through it orphans

can have a good life and good care, can receive proper education and become good people who will

know how to take care of themselves and others. Their knowledge and values will be passed on to

their own children. In this way the school will gradually benefit the whole of society.

“Hope (Helping Orphans By Providing Education & Empowerment)”

Hope is initiated by SES which focuses on empowering

orphan by providing education With support of community

worldwide. An orphanage is run in Uska bazaar block of

district siddharthnagar (Uttar Pradesh). During visit, Senior

members Of official found that school needs cooking

equipments& utensils, bed sheets, bed, clothes, uniform (include washing), study materials, copy etc.

SES has selected this orphanage for its first phase of

HOPE programme. On priority basis, SES has

found that Bed is inevitable. SES has set up its

priority for activity. This year we have supported

for 20 bed, bed sheets, mattress & mosquito net,

pillow. We are very thankful to our donors to

support us in pious cause.

Segment (HLS) for NGOs in ECOSOC consultative status. The theme for the AMR segment

this year will focus on "Promoting productive capacity, employment and decent work to eradicate

poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable and equitable economic growth at all levels for

achieving the MDGs". The HLS will be held on 2 - 9 July 2012 at the United Nations

Headquarters in New York. The HLS will include sessions on the Annual Ministerial Review

(AMR) and the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF). SES has submitted written statement

which was accepted for distribution to all participants of the ECOSOC High Level Segment July

this year. The statements will be edited and translated into the six official UN languages

Commitment to United Nations Global Compact:

This year, Shohratgarh Environmental Society has committed to support the ten principles of the

UN Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour, environment, and anti-

corruption. With this commitment, SES express its intent to advance these principles within our

Health Workers Count:

SES has participated in health workers count campaign. It has integrated campaign in its health

related programme. Health workers are critical to saving lives: they are the single most important

element of any health service. Without them, no vaccine can be administered, no life-saving

drugs prescribed, no family planning advice provided and no woman can be given expert care

during childbirth. Without health workers conditions like pneumonia and diarrhoea – which can

be treated easily by someone with the right skills, supplies and equipment – become

deadly.Health workers are vital for progress on maternal and child survival. Ensuring that a

health worker is within reach, and is trained, equipped and supported, is crucial to the

achievement of Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5. Health workers are also vital for

addressing MDG 6, non-communicable diseases, and other important health and development

issues.

Girls Not Brides, South Asia Strategic Planning Meeting:

SES has participated in the first

regional meeting of Girls Not Brides

was held in New Delhi from 9 to 10

February 2012. It brought together 70

women and men from a range of

grassroots, national and

international organisations working

to end child marriage across South

Asia. Participants from Afghanistan,

Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan

and Sri Lanka came together to share experiences, ideas and information, and to discuss the

potential for working together to end child marriage in the region. SES has given valuable

suggestion to GNB to accelerate its work in India from time to time.

Analysis of COP 17 Outcome: Road Ahead For India in Future Climate Policymaking:

Since the UNFCCC entered into force in 1995, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the

UNFCCC have been meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change. The

African Group has hosted of the Conference with COP 17 / CMP 7 taking place from 28

November to 9 December 2011 in Durban, South Africa.Analysis of COP 17 Outcome: Road

Ahead for India in Future Climate Policymaking is organized by CANSA. Climate Action

Network South Asia (CANSA), has been on the

driving seat to pursue “climate change and

development” issues both internally within the

region and outside the region. It has been a great

challenge as well as opportunity for CANSA to

continue with a credible platform so that South

Asian civil societies could come together and speak

out on climate change issues. In Meeting stand of

India has been discussed & also discussed India’s

role in Rio Summit in June 2012. SES has

participated actively in the meeting.
