Norwood Annual Review 2012/13Welcome to Norwood’s Annual Review which tells you what we did from April 2012 to March 2013.It will also tell you where our money came from and how much we spent.

Norwood is a leading UK Jewish charity, supporting vulnerable children, families & people with learning disabilities.

We are ambitious for the people who use our services and we strive to ensure that everyone can live the life they choose, irrespective of their ability.

By providing professional help in a warm and caring Jewish environment, we support people to be as independent as possible.

The first to do something new.

HydrotherapyThe use of exercise in a pool as part of treatment for medical conditions.

We continued to support more people into paid employment, voluntary work and work experience. We have now supported over 250 people to do this since 2009.

Our new WorkHub opened in Ravenswood and has already supported 21 people into part-time paid employment.

Our Norwood Centre in Redbridge beganrunning services in January and was officially opened later in the year.

We supported over250 families each month at our centres in Hackney, Redbridge and Hendon.

We entered into a£100,000 partnership scheme to deliver a programme of preventative health and wellbeing activities in Hackney.

We worked with students from the Binoh Transition and Apprenticeship groups, helping them to successfully pass courses for a range of qualifications.

We held an awards event at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium marking the end of SNAP, a sports scheme pioneered by Norwood.

We provided a range of assistive technology solutions for the people we support, including assistive communication devices and environmental control systems.

Adele

We refurbished ourhydrotherapy pool at Ravenswood to make it fully accessible for all users.

We opened our specially designed supported living accommodation at Somers Court, in Hale Lane, Edgware.

We launched the YNConsultative Committeeto bring the next generation into our strategic planning.

We were nominated as one of three finalists for the ‘most effective new approach to service delivery’ Skills for Care Accolade.

We began the consultation stage for the redevelopment of Ravenswood.

We expanded our Future Clean service to a new site in Lewes and have also started a mobile cleaning service.

We launched our Norwood Drugsline pilot project which provides education and support to young people for a range of addictions.

Our charity shops have been refitted with a fresh new imagewith the help of the Arcadia Group.

We introduced a modular training programme for volunteers covering issues such as safeguarding and communication.

Throughout the year, over 600 people were involved with Norwood as volunteers.

Over 300 peoplesupported ouractivities on Mitzvah Day at family centres and Ravenswood.

We increased our networking within the local community through a range of different initiatives.

Our Rosh Hashanah and Pesach appeals raised more than £250,000.

1,404 people cycled 130,792 miles to raise money in our challenge events.

Nearly 4,000 guestsattended our fundraising events including our Annual Dinner.

Our YN fundraising campaigns raised over £410,000 from a variety of events.

Elaine Kerr joined Norwood in November 2011 from Chai Cancer Care where she was the CEO for four years.

Before this, Elaine worked in the NHS for more than 14 years, holding a variety of board posts.

Elaine leads our Senior Management Team.

Bernie qualified as a Chartered Accountant and spent most of his career in senior roles with the Rothschild Group. Having retired in 1996, he remains involved with them as a director and consultant.

He brings his financial and management expertise to several community organisations.

He has been a staunch supporter of Norwood for many years.

Richard is the Chairman of Northern & Shell (Publishers of the Express Group of Newspapers and OK! Magazine).

He has been President of Norwood since May 2006 and has been involved with the organisation for more than 20 years.

He is strongly committed to enabling people to live the life they choose and is passionate about the causes we represent.

Norwood is governed by a Trustee Board. The Trustee Board decides on Norwood’s strategy, which the Senior Management Team thenimplements. The Trustee Board has up to fourteen members, and to the 31 March 2013 were:
