Community Kitchen’s mission is to work alone and in collabo‐ration with others to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas through direct service, education and advocacy.
Our Philosophy We believe in the dignity of all persons and that all in need should have access to basic food services with no questions asked and no financial test.

Meal Programs & Agency Operations
Provided 224,239 meals & snacks, free of charge to anyone in need; an average of 716/day.
Community Kitchen set another new service record by 6%!
About 60% of Kitchen patrons were children under 18.
15% of patrons were seniors.
Rogers Street Kitchen provided 65,235 on‐site and carry‐out meals.
CK Express served 48,433 hot and cold carry‐out meals.
The Backpack Buddies program expanded to include children at Edgewood Primary & Intermediate in addition to Summit, Fairview, Arlington, Grandview and Clear Creek Elementary Schools. This pro‐gram grew by 43%.
The Feed Our Future program provided 80,518 meals and snacks to children in after‐school programs.
Through the Summer Breakfast Program, CK distributed 12,184 break‐fasts to children in ten low‐income neighborhoods and three youth serving programs in Bloomington and Ellettsville.
Continued successful partnerships with the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and Area 10 Agency on Aging helped to provide holiday meals, grocery distribu‐tion and meals for the homebound on Thanksgiving (1609) and Christmas Eve (1665).
Utilized over 10,928 hours of volunteer community service, worth over $79,231!
Received over $103,000 in food donations, $19,000 in in‐kind rent & utili‐ties and $22,000 in other in‐kind donations.
Community Relations and Development
Held our fourteenth annual Palette to Palate silent art and live auction, raising approximately $24,000 for Kitchen hunger relief programs.
Actively participated in the United Way of Monroe County annual campaign, UW committees and United Way Agency Directors’ Association.
Continued participation in Homeward Bound, CROP Walk and Taste of Bloomington.
Held our fifth annual Bloomington Chefs’ Challenge ‐ a fabulous benefit contest similar to TV’s Iron Chef . Chef Damian Esposito of IU Memorial Union was the winner of the golden spatula. Over $16,000 was raised.
Received over $37,000 in reimbursement from the State Department of Education for Summer Breakfast Program and Feed Our Future summer meals to children.
Received over $65,000 in CACFP reimbursement for some of the Feed Our Future meals to children, providing a more steady funding stream and ensuring we can continue to provide fruits and vegetables to chil‐dren served through that program.

We broke ground on the new facility and work began in March 2011.
Received nearly $400,000 in new funds for the Build the Kitchen renovation project in 2011: Over $124,000 from individuals, $9,877 from Civic Clubs, $100,559 from Businesses, $116,721 from Congregations and $48,000 from local Government.
The renovation work at 1515 S Rogers St was completed in late July.
Community Kitchen moved without having to completely close programs. Several programs operated without interruption. Dinner meal service was down only three days.
The first meal in our new location was served on July 27, 2011!
We received an equipment grant from Smithville Charitable Foundation that covered the cost of much needed equip‐ment, including new tables and chairs.
