In academic year 2007/2008, we successfully raised over $4 million towards a new middle school campus as part of the Campaign for the Future of Keys School. But we did so much more than that — we came together as a community, believed in the dream, and made our mark on the history of Keys School. Now, even more children will experience what Keys has to offer, a broad curriculum, hands-on learning, and a nurturing environment where children have time to grow and learn. In the midst of this tremendous effort, our students and faculty continued to do what they do best — learn together. Keys students completed integrated projects that brought lower and middle school students together to experience learning across grade levels. Each grade continued to explore their world through outdoor education trips which broadened the mind through seeing, touching, and working together.Teachers continued to present curriculum that challenged our students to think independently and seek answers in an environment that supports risk-taking. So, every day, we see the “campaign for the future” on our campus — inspiring our students to have the confidence in themselves to make their futures bright. Looking back over the 2007/2008 school year, I amgrateful to the students, families, parent volunteers, staff, and faculty for another incredible milestone inour 35 year history. From outstanding collaborationamong students and faculty in our integrated projects,to outdoor education trips to Costanoa,Yosemite, and Catalina Island, to the record participation we received from parents in our first-ever capital campaign — the Campaign for the Future of KeysSchool, we accomplished so much as a community.

We hope you enjoy some of the scenes from lastschool year, it was a challenge to choose the picturesfrom so many memorable moments. The photos willhopefully jog some great memories for you as youmark time throughout the coming year.

Most importantly, we extend our sincere thanks forthe many gifts we receive from parents and extendedfamily and friends — not just the financial gifts whichare so important to the School, but also the many giftsof time.Volunteers are the heart of the School, andeach family shares their energy and passion in differentways that add up to an incredible School.

Keys is community — and our families bring it to life every day.

As we look forward the exciting year ahead, we thankyou for being part of our School.

With warm regards,

Treasurer’s ReportThe Board of Trustees of Keys School presents the financial results of fiscal year July 1,2007 to June 30,2008. Sustaining strong programs and retaining top quality teaching staff through competitive salary and benefits remains a constant goal. Once again, families and friends helped us reach and exceed our annual support goal by donating $309,182 through the Annual Fund drive. We also saw the Campaign for theFuture of Keys School successfully move through a complete year of fundraising.Withover 65% of current families participating (a strong participation level for capital givingamong independent schools), we exceeded our goal of $4,000,000.This helped us create a permanent presence through our new middle school campus to open in 2009.

The extraordinary work done by the community in support of the School and by the Board to allocate resources wisely ensures we continue to remain financially secure, allowing us to keep the promise to our students to provide the best education possible.

The generosity of our community and our growing resources assure the promise of a sound financial future.

Evan BrooksTreasurer of the Board of Trustees

Page 8: Annual Report KEYS SCHOOLkeysschoolcom.siteprotect.net/news/Annual-Report07-08.pdf · I n academic year 2007/2008, we successfully raised over $4 million towards a new middle school

The Keys community continues to provide outstanding philanthropic support and we are honored and humbled by this generosity. In 2007-2008, substantial gifts from manyparents, our Board of Trustees, alumni families, faculty, staff, grandparents and friendsresulted in record Annual Fund support for the school's operations and programs.

Under the direction of Lower School Chairs Christine Lam and Ken Chen and Middle School Chairs Mamatha and PradipShankar, Keys raised $309,182 in Annual Fund support, surpassing our original goal. Over 80% of Keys families supportedthe 2007-2008 Annual Fund, and we realized 100% participation from the Board of Trustees.

Each year, we look to successful fundraising to help make up the difference between tuition and the full cost of providing anexceptional, child-centered Keys education. Financial support from the Keys community helps the school attract and retainoutstanding faculty; ensure small class sizes with individual attention; offer an enriched curriculum and maintain a strongtuition assistance program.

By investing in Keys School, we are investing in the future of our children.Walking around the Keys campus or holding discussions with our alumni confirm this. Keys graduates have emerged as resourceful, curious and caring individuals whocontinue on to experience great academic achievement and rich, full lives. We are grateful to our many philanthropic partners who are helping us to provide an environment that supports our students’ success on a daily basis and gives them an incredible start on their futures.
