Annual ReportFiscal Year 2019
July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019
Dear Friends,
Pam Devereux Chief Executive Officer
Meg Gibson Revord National Board President
Siana (also cover), Adopted from Colombia in 2019 by Jessica of Bourbonnais, IL
When introducing Gift of Adoption to others, we often lead with, “It’s a good idea.”
Gift of Adoption is a good idea because it is relevant— addressing the staggeringly large needs of 138 million orphaned children around the world and 250,000 in the United States who are growing up alone. It’s a good idea because each child adopted has immediate and lasting access to both the basic necessities and enriching possibilities of life, simply by virtue of becoming a regular part of a loving family.
Our mission delivery model smartly complements and works in partnership with industry professionals—attorneys, agencies, social workers, policy makers, and advocacy groups—to further our shared goal of permanent families for all children, everywhere.
Our mission is both practical and scalable in an “Occam’s razor” way to complex problem-solving, where the simplest solution is most likely the right one. Gift of Adoption final funds grants simply remove adoption costs as a barrier to adoption.
And, most importantly, our mission engages each of us in a new industry of philanthropy and volunteerism—one where you don’t have to adopt to give a child a family.
This year, together with the support of organizations like Horizon Therapeutics, community groups such as the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, members of our Investor and National Boards, and our 23-strong chapter network, we made it possible for 441 children to be united with permanent families.
These members of our shared community join with you and the families we serve to make a profound and lasting difference in the lives of children, together. Simply put, we’re better together.
On the cover of this report you see 3-year-old Siana together with her mother and grandfather at a family wedding. Siana was born in Colombia and abandoned at the hospital at 3 months old. Through adoption, Siana is now able to thrive in a family where goofing around with cousins is a common occurrence (as pictured to the left).
For all the children we’ve reached this year who are now in a better place, together with their new families, we extend our gratitude. Thank you for working together with us to actualize this good idea. An idea that brings us together to make things better.
With gratitude,
Gift of Adoption provides grants to complete the adoptions of vulnerable children—giving them permanent families and a chance to thrive.

The #RAREis Adoption Fund was created by Horizon Therapeutics to further their commitment to the Rare Disease Community. The #RAREis Adoption Fund supports Gift of Adoption’s mission to provide financial assistance to complete the final steps of adoption of at-risk children. 10% of Gift of Adoption’s grants help children with rare diseases come home for the treatment they need and the love of a forever family. Horizon’s $150,000 gift will complete the adoptions of 30 children battling rare diseases over the next three years.

In 2016, we launched the “500 in 5 Growth Campaign” to raise $1.375 million to invest in our growth strategies and to fund a portion of the resulting grant growth each year. Through November 1, 2019, 34 generous individuals have helped us reach 92% of that funding goal (see page 12).
