ANNUAL REPORT ENDING 31 MARCH 2018

PRESIDENT’S OPENING ADDRESS
2017 was a stellar year for Singapore Squash with our best showing at the SEA Games in over twenty years, garnering 3 Gold medals. 2 Silver and 5 Bronzes Our Men’s team comprising, Benedict Chan, Pang Ka Hoe, Samuel Kang and Vivian Rhamanan, captured a historic Gold medal in the 29th SEA Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 21st - 29th August, beating the Philippines in the Finals and wresting the title from Malaysia which has won every SEA Games Men’s Team Gold medal since 1997. The Women’s team backed this up with a solid Silver medal in the Women’s event with Au Yeong Wai Yhann, Mao Shi Hui, Pamela Chua and Sneha Sivakumar, putting on strong performances throughout the tournament. Both our Men’s and Ladies’ pairs of Samuel Kang/Vivian Rhamanan and Mao Shi Hui/Sherilyn Yang won the Gold medals in our pet event, the Jumbo Doubles. In International Doubles, our men’s team of Pang Ka Hoe and Timothy Leong, playing in this event for the first time, sneaked a surprise Silver much to everyone’s delight. In the crucial 19th Asian Squash Team Championships, our men’s team of Vivian Rhamanan, Samuel Kang, Timothy Leong and Benedict Chan, upset the formbooks and seedings to finish 6th, a feat that qualified the team to take part in the 2018 Asian Games for the first time. On the international stage, we also have more players with professional rankings than ever before: Chua Man Chin – 275 Timothy Leong – 298 Chua Man Tong – 384 Vivian Rhamanan – 398 Aaron Liang – 482
Au Yeong Wai Yhann – 122 Sneha Sivakumar – 161 Nikki Pang – 240
Congratulations are in order for Au Yeong Wai Yhann who captured her first Women’s Title at the 2018 National Squash Championships. Congratulations also to Sneha Sivakumar who our first ever Squash SPEX scholar which qualifies her for separate funding of $87,000 from SportSG for her training, over and above what SGSQUASH receives for its annual grants which for FY18, increased to $448,629. She has continued to blossom with SGSQUASH, achieving impressive results from the World Junior Championships and other tournaments. Despite the increased funding we received, SGSQUASH still needs to constantly raise funds for its programmes to bring squash to the masses, tournaments to expose our players to frequent match plays and enhanced coaching experiences with more coaches and sparring partners.

PROGRAMS
Adult Training Programme (ATP)
The Adult Training Programme is held 3 nights a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday,
from 8pm to 10pm.
Community Outreach Partnered with GLYPH
GLYPH is a non-governmental organization, with a program aimed at under-privileged
youths, making holistic education affordable and available to them. They organize activities
for the children to take part in, in order to learn new skills, whether in sports, arts or other life-
skills.
SGSquash has partnered with GLYPH, organizing the first cycle of a mini-squash program
which included 18 children. This program was funded by TECHNOFORM, allowing us to
provide the classes to the children at no cost to them or GLYPH.
We intend to extend this program, organizing a second cycle, comprising of 8 children from
GLYPH, and a further 10 children from the public who will be self-funded. Plans are also in
place to approach similar organizations to reach out to more children.
World Squash Day 2018
In conjunction with World Squash Day on the 13th of October and the 5th Senior Circuit,
SGSquash has planned a fundraiser to be held from the 10th to the 14th of October. All funds
will be used to help fund the above community outreach project, providing under-privileged
children with opportunities to pick up mini-squash.
