HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR
W
We made a difference in the lives of thousands of people in the state of Jharkhand through our
various training programs and campaigns. Working at the grassroots level, Jharkhand
Swabhiman, as part of the Government of India’s initiative, conducted group trainings for PRI
members in several different blocks of the state. Our volunteers organized awareness
campaigns for missions like the Swachh Bharat Mission in the form of practical presentations
and sessions with participants. On the urban front, we actively participated in several blood
donation campaigns and urgent blood donation drives. During nation-wide lockdown, we
arranged for and distributed dry ration to the needy. Read inside pages to know more details.

THE SECRETARY SPEAKS
I feel proud to present the annual report of Jharkhand Swabhiman for the year 2019–2020. The
biggest achievement of the NGO in this financial year was to get empanelled with the
Panchayati Raj Department of the Government of Jharkhand. We have been empanelled for a
period of 2 years starting July 2019. The experience with the Panchayati Raj Department
provided us an additional base at Khunti and Pakur Districts. It means that we as an NGO could
extend our roots from Ranchi to Latehar, East Singhbhum, Khunti and Pakur Districts of
Jharkhand. Reaching out to approximately 210 panchayats (Khunti and Pakur) this financial
year was the biggest learning experience for our organization.
We would like to thank all our donors, supporters, volunteers, and well-wishers for their
timely and valuable contribution towards our effort. Jharkhand Swabhiman would also like to
extend its deep sense of gratitude to all the concerned officials of the Panchayati Raj
Department and the BDOs and BPROs/BCs of all 12 blocks of Khunti and Pakur for their
extended support. Without them we could have not achieved the desired outcome of the
training provided to the PRIs. The assistance provided by the print media in bringing our work
to the society can also not be ignored. This experience, along with our work in the last 18 years,
will help us in to plan and implement our thoughts to reach the deprived sections of our society.
On regular requests from our donors, this financial year onward, we will enable the
option of online donation directly from our website to ease the process and to bring about more
transparency, with the hope that helpful donors will continue their financial assistance to our
organization.

Digital Literacy Program
In the effort to promote digital literacy Jharkhand Swabhimanhas conducted various programs with
the help of government or self sponsored. In the heart of Ranchi, we have a tie up with New Cherry
Cafe to provide basic skills to a literate who are willing to learn. This helps them in getting a better
job opportunity. This partnership of ours is for past few years and has yielded good results. We
would like to keep this partnership going till its yielding results.
Blood Donation
In the effort to reach all the needy, Jharkhand Swabhiman had set up a club named KOSHISH (A
club for a noble cause). Under the banner of this club Jharkhand Swabhiman is motivating
youngsters to come forward and start donating blood to someone in need. Over the past few years
this effort of ours has yielded benefits and several youngsters have joined us to serve this noble
cause.
Jharkhand Swabhiman would especially like to mention Mr. Ashish Gurung who was in for
his holidays in Ranchi and when he knew the requirement for blood, he was immediately ready.
Mr. Kumar Love also needs a special mention as he was moving to a different district for his
work but as we contacted and requested him to spare time for the urgent need, he was ready. Mr.
Kumar Vivek was contacted at midnight for the blood requirement of a 1-year old kid and Mr.
Vivek managed to reach Nagarmal Modi Seva Sadan, Ranchi to help this cause. It’s due to these
youngsters that we have the hope that every requirement of blood to needy can be fulfilled. We
would also like to thank all the donors who came forward voluntarily and donated blood.

Covid-19 food distribution
Covid-19 is one of the biggest pandemics that has shakenthe entire world. The disease has
affected millions and lead to death of thousands. The number is increasing every day and the
fear is that it would be one of the biggest epidemics of whole time. Jharkhand Swabhiman tried
the best to reach the person in need of food during lockdown. We started with distribution of
dry ration to the daily workers. About 50 families were provided food.
Jharkhand Swabhiman also made arrangements at its office for cooked food for the
people who did not have place to stay. Later as we ran short of funds, we started linking the
needy to the respective district administrations. We have contacted approx. 500 individuals
who were either in need of food or were stuck at a place and wanted to return back to their
home town. Mr. Nirmal Yadav’s family from Chhattisgarh was one of them. They had come
for a marriage ceremony at East Singhbhum district and were stuck for over 2 months. When
Mr. Yadav contacted us, we informed the local district administration who assisted them and 40
other people to return to Chhattisgarh. Same case was with an NGO based in Madhya Pradesh
that contacted us for helping people stuck in Deoghar. Mr. Sharma, a representative of that
NGO, thanked Jharkhand Swabhiman for immediate action.
The students of National Law University (NLU, Gujarat) contacted us with a list of
approx. 300 migrants who had returned back to Jharkhand but are in need of food. The team of
Jharkhand Swabhiman contacted each one of them and extend the possible assistance. We had
also provided the municipal workers working in the area where our office is located with
drinking waters, soft drinks and cookies in order to appreciate their work as Corona Warriors.

Assisting the people of Babupur Panchayat in Hiranpur Panchayat of Pakur district in
downloading AarogyaSetu App was a big task as we had to first make them understand the
importance of having this app. Once people were convinced, they downloaded the app. The
Mukhiya of Babupur Panchayat was a big help in commutating with the locals and making
them realise the importance of this app. Our Representative Mr. Jantu Soren had made over 100
people download this app. As the epidemic is not over, we are continuing our efforts with the
help of big-hearted donors and hardworking volunteers.
