Our MissionTo protect animals and build connections between pets and people through advocacy and education

Our VisionLeading and guiding a humane Lake County

A Message From Our Executive DirectorWe had another wonderful year of growth, and thanks to the steadfast support of our community, we were able to help nearly 500 more animals than last year, which is an increase of 41% compared to 2017. This increase can be credited to various facets of Lake Humane, but the biggest advancement we made in 2018 was in our medical department.

We mastered our efficiency in providing top of the line veterinary care to our homeless animals which allows the staff to prepare pets for adoption more quickly. We could not have improved this process without devoted supporters, like you.

Through your contributions, we were able to update equipment, hire additional staff to oversee and maintain animal husbandry and medical care standards within our shelter, and in turn, help more pets and members of the community. We worked alongside other organizations to provide assistance to animals at risk in other Ohio counties, giving second chances to pets who may not otherwise be given that opportunity.

We will continue to strive to help as many animals as possible, but ultimately, a new facility will be the determining factor in just how big of a community impact we can make as an organization.

In 2018, we continued to follow our strategic plan and lay the groundwork for a feasibility study. We worked behind the scenes on community pilot programming, including a growing Children’s education program and a low-cost trap-neuter-return clinic.

This is a pivotal time for Lake Humane Society and the animals and people in our community. As we embark on new adventures, we are so grateful to have you by our side. The future of LHS is bright, and we look forward to continuing on this journey with you.

Thank you for your compassion and commitment to our mission.

Our volunteer board is made up of 10 members who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies.

Happy TailsLinzy saw Chico’s picture on Facebook and was instantly drawn to him. “It was totally meant to be. His bio at the shelter was exactly the type of dog we needed for our active lifestyle,” Linzy said.

He was returned to the shelter from previous adopters due to no fault of his own; this inconsistent living arrangement was very stressful for him. After some canine R&R with a dog trainer, he was ready to meet his new family!

“We needed him as much as he needed us.”

Chico now has a Chihuahua brother and an 8-year-old human brother that love to go on long walks with him. His new family can’t imagine their life without their Chico!

We are so thankful for all of ourvolunteers and fosters!

LeonardAnne was considering adopting another cat after her senior cat passed away. Although no one could replace Ginger, she saw Leonard on Facebook and fell in love with him. Leonard is a medical special needs kitty. His skin condition caused other adopters to overlook his winning personality and impressive eyes for more than a year. He would need an understanding and dedicated owner.

“I wasn’t quite there yet to start looking for another cat, but once I saw Leonard I knew I had to meet him.”

Anne came out to LHS to meet Leonard and they clicked instantly. After spending some time with Leonard in the friendship room, she knew that she had to adopt him. Leonard has now been part of Anne’s family for a year now and is living a happy and healthy life.

Jasper came to us in August 2018 after reports of abuse. As a 1-year-old dog, it was clear that he had experienced a rough life in his abusive home. Our Humane Agent brought him back to the shelter to start over and find a family that will give him the love and compassion that he deserved.

Not even two weeks later, a loving family came to the shelter to meet Jasper and fell in love. They told us he watches over everyone in the household, especially their daughter. We think it’s his way of showing them how grateful he is for giving him a new forever home! Since his adoption, Jaspers abuser has been brought to justice.

2018 was a year full of exciting events for Lake Humane Society and the 2nd Annual Pup Crawl is at the top of the list! The 2018 Pup Crawl, presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, was a day of unforgettable fun, including; adoptable dogs, raffles, photo booths, drink specials, and more. In 2017, the first year of the event, we raised over $15,000 for the animals with roughly 550 attendees. In 2018, the event grew drastically and raised $25,000 with over 650 participants!

Attending a Lake Humane Society event, like the Pup Crawl, is a fun and easy way to help the homeless animals in need.

We would like to thank all of our supporters who came to our events in 2018. We hope to see you again!
