Executive Summary

In15yearsofservicetoourcommunities,GoldenRetrieverClubofGreaterLosAngelesRescue(GRCGLAR)hasplacedover4500GoldenRetrieversintolovingforeverandfosterhomesthroughouttheSouthernCaliforniaarea.Theimpactisfeltacross12,000squaremilesspreadthroughout509citiesandcommunitiesinthe6countiesacrosstheregion.2017wasayearofstabilityandvisibilityfortheRescueaswemaintainedastrongpresenceatsomeofthelargestpetrescueeventsheldannually:theOCPetExpoandStrutYourMuttLosAngeles.Ourgrassrootseffortsalsohelpedatthelocallevelasweparticipatedinmanyregionalevents,suchasinIrvine(HomefortheHolidays)andLongBeach(HolidayBone-Anza).Ourvolunteerismisgrowingduetoouroutreacheffortsandwearealwayslookingfordedicatedvolunteersthroughoutourregion.Ontheadoptionfront,weadoptedout73GoldenRetrievers(downfrom90in2016)thispastyear,withthebiggestimpactinOrangeandLosAngelesCounties.Eventhoughouradoptionsnumbersaredownfromthepreviousyear,werecognizethatthemessageofanimalrescueisbecomingmainstream,withtheawarenessreachingall-timehighs.Thismayaccountforouradoptionnumbersbeinglowerinrecentyearsasthepublicisbecomingalargerpartofthediscussionandthelongtermsolution.
