2017-18 Annual Report– Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation

Notes from the Executive Director

Dear Friends of the Catholic Foundation:

Thanks to you, this past year was a wonderful year for many in the Diocese of Pueblo! Please allow

me to highlight our key successes.

Parish Visits

Last year, Diana Maal, our Development Coordinator, made visits to various parishes in Grand Junction,

Durango, Alamosa and Trinidad. The purpose of her visits was to meet parishioners and introduce them to

the Catholic Foundation’s history, mission, and grants program. Diana’s presentations emphasized the

ministry of charitable giving, and she was warmly received at each parish.

Fundraising Dinner in Alamosa

The Catholic Foundation hosted a dinner at the Bistro Rialto in Alamosa on October 21, 2017 with Bishop

Stephen J. Berg as our special guest. This was the first time for a Catholic Foundation event in the San Luis

Valley, with guests coming together from Alamosa, Capulin, Center, Hooper, La Jara and Monte Vista for

dinner and fellowship.

Catholic Education Campaign

The Catholic Foundation held its first-ever

Catholic Schools Week Campaign to promote the

value of Catholic education, which took place

January 29 – February 2, 2018. This Campaign

provided a great opportunity for individuals to

give to their local Catholic school or to donate to

the Catholic Foundation. Thanks to those who

donated, the Campaign raised nearly $11,000 for

Catholic education.

Grant Awards 2018

The Catholic Foundation is pleased to announce its grant awards for 2018. This year the Catholic

Foundation awarded organizations and Catholic schools just over $120,000 for tuition assistance, and for

parish, mission and program assistance. Additionally, nineteen organizations received $35,500 in

humanitarian grant awards from the Msgr. Delaney Humanitarian Fund to help those who are in most need.

For a complete listing of grant recipients please visit our website at www.CatholicFoundationDOP.org.

The Catholic Foundation is thankful for all of you, our faithful donors, who make our programs

possible. On behalf of Bishop Stephen J. Berg and the Board of Directors, thank you in advance for your

continued support in the coming year. May we kindly ask that you be as generous as possible with a gift to

support our work at this time. Please visit our secure website at www.CatholicFoundationDOP.org and click

on “Donate.”

Yours in Christ,

Steven S. Chargin

Executive Director

In the spirit of Hope in the Gospel, and to continue

the work of Jesus Christ, the Catholic Diocese of

Pueblo Foundation promotes charitable giving,

manages entrusted resources and disburses gifts

throughout the Diocese.

2017-18 Annual Report– Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation

Honoring Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya

By Steven Chargin, Executive Director

Perhaps one of the most enduring aspects of Bishop Arthur Tafoya’s

legacy will be the creation of the Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation.

As presently organized, Bishop Tafoya established the Catholic Foundation in 1995, and by the grace of God

it has grown over the years in many and varied ways.

Putting his love and care for the diocese into action, Bishop Tafoya wanted to be sure that there would

always be a source of grant funds for all parishes, missions and other Catholic groups, particularly those in

outlying areas where financial and material resources were scarce. By creating a fruitful partnership with so

many generous donors over the years, the Catholic Foundation was able to help repair churches and schools,

provide funding for religious education materials, assist immigrants, and offer our youth the opportunity to

grow in their faith through numerous conferences and events. Little did Bishop Tafoya know that the seeds

of faith he planted would turn into over Two Million Dollars in grant awards for these and many other

programs.

To honor Bishop Tafoya’s many years of dedication and service to the Catholic Foundation, we are proud to

announce that our current legacy society will now be known as The Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya Legacy Society.

It is our hope and prayer that many of the faithful will be inspired to leave a planned gift to the Catholic

Foundation-just as Bishop Tafoya did. Whether by a Will, Trust or other means, a planned gift costs nothing

during a person’s lifetime, but the benefits will last well beyond. Please take the opportunity to honor Bishop

Tafoya by becoming a member of his Legacy Society today. The Catholic Foundation can help you with

just about any type of planned gift, so please contact us and we will be happy to help you start planning your

Catholic legacy.

On behalf of all our Board of Directors, Executive Directors, staff and grant recipients, past and present, the

Catholic Foundation will forever be grateful for Bishop Tafoya’s inspired leadership and vision. May he rest

in God’s holy peace.

Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya Legacy Society

We wish to recognize those individuals, past and present,

who have designated the Catholic Foundation as a

beneficiary of a legacy gift in a Will, Trust, Annuity or other

planned giving instrument.

With these simple planned gifts, members of the Bishop

Tafoya Legacy Society members will help build our mission

today and tomorrow.

Please honor Bishop Tafoya by becoming a member of his

Legacy Society today.
