GadsdenArtsCenter&MuseumAnnualReportFebruary 9, 2017
Dear Gadsden Arts Members,
Where does the time go? Seriously! Your support has
produced another very productive year at Gadsden Arts. In this report,
you will see a listing of all exhibitions, programs, and events that were
offered during 2016 – total participation, up 23% from the prior year – and increasing support from an ever-
growing community. You will also see larger milestones that we were fortunate to reach – in the spring, becoming
Florida’s 27th art museum to earn American Alliance of Museums Accreditation, later adding the word “Museum” to
our name to reflect that status, and in the fall, surpassing our Community Connections Project fundraising goal,
making expansion this year an exciting reality!
Perhaps more important, though, is the day-to-day impact of Gadsden Arts in peoples’ lives, which is best illustrated
through stories…
• The children who hurried through their homework on the day they knew our instructor and volunteer
were coming to work with them, laden with colorful art supplies, excited to relax and create and explore…
• The child who smiled broadly when I admired her quilt square design, telling me she planned to take it
home to give her mother as a gift…
• Local artists, pursuing a lifelong interest in retirement, many of whom I’ve known for years now, proud to
be developing their art and craft, nervous about taking a Master Artist Workshop and then challenged and
delighted with the results…
• Art collectors who so generously loaned not only their prized possessions to Gadsden Arts for the
Collector’s Choice exhibition for public benefit, but also shared their stories – like the couple who
“inherited” a Highwaymen painting along with a beach house purchase, only to find out 12 years later that it
is a valuable part of Florida’s cultural history. (The wife found out and then re-gave it to her husband for
Christmas!)
• The volunteer who guided 22 children through a group quilt making activity during summer art camp,
finding at the end of the week that she took more from that experience than the children did, struck by the
natural ease in bringing together 22 children from very different communities to make one beautiful design.
There are many more stories – they happen daily at Gadsden Arts – a wonderful organization of people
who come together in myriad ways to improve quality of life for all of us, and to revitalize and strengthen our
community, through art. Thank you all, very much, for your continued support and involvement in this great and
growing art organization.
I look forward to sharing another great year in 2017, and at the end of the year, the grand opening of our
renovation and expansion – wonderful additions that will create many more stories to come.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Grace Robinson Grace Robinson
Executive Director
