Support increased participation
Reward and recognise innovation and high achievement
Advise of industry codes and standards
Improve communication to stakeholders
Increase and sustain membership
Advocate for infrastructure development
Maintain sound financial and business models
Advocate for inclusive recreation
Develop and maintain organisational excellence
The Board have led a strong organisation with comprehensive and clear planning, defined strategic
priorities and a collaborative vision. This has been backed up with responsive and responsible staff who
strive to connect members and communicate with stakeholders.
A theme for 2014/2015 was to have interactive and engaging communication and marketing led by a
clean, interactive website that targeted new members and stakeholders.
Financial performance and financial health was put under the microscope in the last 12 months with new
financial systems and processes providing accurate and timely reporting. A detailed budget framework and
process provided accurate reporting and allowed the board and staff to track increased revenue streams
and funding. Our aim is to now work towards financial sustainability.
Our industry sector committees have driven pertinent issues, agendas and projects throughout the year on
behalf of the broader Recreation industry and the Board. Some of the key highlights and challenges include

Aquatics Advisory Committee
In the last year the Aquatic Committee of Recreation SA has
built momentum, set strategic priorities and enjoyed
success with its major campaign – Watch Around Water.
Success through our strategic priorities has included:
Increase the number of WAW accredited centres in SA
The number or WAW accredited pools rose to 36 pools
Lobbying to the government for support for the program
Letter of Support received from Minister for Emergency
Services, Tony Piccolo
With that, approached LGA to endorse the program into
all LGA aquatic facilities
Continue to work towards a best practice document for
swimming pools in SA
“Code of Practice for all Public Swimming Pools in SA”
Success with funding for 1 year through OR&S’s Sport
and Recreation Development and Inclusion Program
We have support from SA Health, LIWA Aquatics, NSW
LGA, SA Water Safety Committee, Office of the Technical
Regulator Plumbing, Royal Life Saving SA
Advocate for every child to have access to water safety
lessons
Communicate with VACSWIM and Education
Department to keep up to date with developments
Increase communication and advocacy for the SA aquatic
industry
Recreation SA are building their reputation as the voice
of the industry
Recreation SA has built a relationship with private swim
schools as part of the wider recreation industry. It is
encouraging to see these pools participate in the Watch

Community Advisory Committee During the past 12 months the community advisory
committee has acted on several initiatives.
At the end of the year Recreation SA hosted a breakfast
workshop to share information about the #Recre8SA
campaign which was well supported by the sector.
Recreation centres are key stakeholders in this campaign.
Whilst we have had many centres engage with the
campaign we have not reached saturation point yet and
continue to work with centres throughout the state. The
breakfast provided networking and professional
development opportunities for the sector. Darren Roberts
from Impact Training Corporation spoke about customer
service and how to add greater value to the services offered
by recreation facilities. Recreation SA collated data on the
key issues impacting the sector. We look forward to
supporting the sector further with professional development
workshops and networking opportunities in the coming
months.
A strategic priority moving forward will be inclusive
recreation and we look forward to sharing success stories in
this area as well as supporting centres to ensure they are
well placed to support a range of clients.
I would like to thank all committee members who have
shared their expertise and given generously of their time in
the past year and look forward to representing the needs of
the community recreation sector in the year ahead.
Fitness Advisory Committee The Fitness sector in South Australia has made steady
progress over the past 12 months.
Recreation SA in conjunction with Fitness Australia
facilitated 2 Fitness Round Table meetings attracting the
key players in the industry in an attempt to bring the
industry together. This presented a good opportunity for
networking and for the group, facilitated by Justin Tamsett,
to identify what the key factors were impacting the industry
in SA. From this we confirmed Recreation SA role as a
provider of professional development opportunities and as
an advocate for the industry.
It was clear that the industry was seeking clarification and
promotion of the role of both Recreation SA and Fitness
Australia.
A joint agreement with Fitness Australia has since been
signed with a clear direction moving forward. In summary

Rec SA will continue to provide professional development
opportunities for those in the industry. CEC workshops will
be promoted by Fitness Australia. Fitness Australia will be
responsible for registering exercise professionals.
The Professional network series has featured 8 workshops
this year with 4 of them being CEC accredited. We had
greatly improved numbers to the Adelaide Sport and Fitness
Expo Workshops this year and look forward to building on
this again in 2016.
For the first time REC SA presented a workshop at EFM
National Conference. This was well received and we will be
looking to present our workshops in similar forums moving
forward. We have had good growth in the number of fitness
professionals on our data base.
I would like to thank all of the committee members who
have given generously of their time and expertise in the
past year and look forward to consolidating further in the
coming year.
Outdoor Advisory Committee / Trails Sub
Committee A new and vibrant outdoor committee drove the outdoor
sector in 2014/2015 to advocate on the needs of the
industry and to inform the Board.
The trails subcommittee has also been part of Recreation
SA for a year and we welcome their input and guidance into
Recreation SA.
Outdoor Industry issues are communicated and
addressed and well represented to the Office for Recreation
and Sport and other government departments
Outdoor Industry Projects are relevant and needed
Outdoor Industry standards are up to date and are
maintained.
In conjunction with Service Skills SA, 9 Adventure Activity
Standards were updated. Further legal checks were
undertaken to secure the AAS were up to date and accurate
and the 9 updated standards are now available.
In 2015/2016 the following projects are being undertaken
in the outdoor industry
We have been funded to undertake an Industrial
Relations project to ensure the recreation industry
understands their HR and IR requirements and has
resources to help them. A part of this project is to undertake
initial research into an award for the outdoor industry.

We have invited Dr Paul Salmon to present a risk
management workshop in South Australia
With the Trails Sub Committee of Recreation SA we are
close to releasing the SA Recreational Trails Master Plan
and will continue to work on outcomes from the plan
A report has been commissioned to review the Trails SA
website (www.southaustraliantrails.com) to ensure that it
meets the need of the trails sector and those utilising the
trails and to provide a plan of a new website format.
The Year Ahead Recreation SA’s continued growth last financial year has
allowed the organisation to appoint a part time
Communications Project Officer for 2015-16. The
appointment will bolster the organisation’s ability to
promote our members and their facilities and services. The
project officer is also responsible for implementing
Recreation SA’s exciting new social media campaign
#Recre8SA. We would like to thank major sponsor TAFE SA
and key supporter Belgravia Leisure for getting behind our
innovative marketing strategy to promote Recreation SA
members and boost South Australians involvement in
recreation.
In order to best serve our members, we invite you to see
Recreation SA as an additional promotional outlet. Each
month we distribute an e-newsletter to more than 1000

together.
