With a robust 93-yearhistory, our predecessorscould never haveimagined the evolution of our organization.Beginning as anorphanage in the 1920s,the organization hasemerged as a multi-program private non-profit supportingnearly 7,000 area kids, families and child careproviders every year.

We are thrilled to add another milestone to ouragency’s story by changing our name to ReadyKids. Our new name better reflects what we do, makes a statement about what we strive to achieve, andillustrates our intention to keep up with the changingneeds of our community’s kids. Yet, our mostimportant goal is to increase our accessibility to the kids and families we partner with every day.

We may have changed our name, but not ourprograms or unwavering focus and commitment to the well-being of kids in the Charlottesville area. It is our collective efforts that ensure all of ourcommunity’s kids are Ready to Learn, Ready for Relationships and ultimately Ready for Life.

Join us in celebrating the achievements, both pastand present, of children, families and child careproviders in our community. We look forward tocontinuing to partner with you to open doors to bright futures for kids for years to come.

1946— By the 1940s, we have served about 350 kids. With support from the Community Chest (now the United Way),we broaden our mission to include care for adolescents andsupport for children whose families are in crisis.
