PRIYADARSHINI SEVA MANDALI

INTRODUCTION

Priyadarshini Seva Mandali (PSM), located at Khammam, is a Non-Governmental Voluntary

Organization, started its journey on April 27th, 1991. Registered under A.P. Fasli Telangana

Society Registration Act 1350 F, PSM started to bring about changes in the lives of the under

privileged class.

Initially when we started, it was just a team of five members, which soon grew into a team of

several members, who are devoted to change the lives of thousands of people who lives below

the poverty line and thrives to get a dignified lifestyle. Priyadarshini Seva Mandali works with

the grassroots level in order to help people who are fighting with poverty, unemployment, and

illnesses.

Presently we are working in the Khammam and Rangareddy districts with headquarters in

Khammam. We give special emphasis on community organization and women organization.

We believe if these two areas are looked after thoroughly, it will be easy to achieve sustainable

development that gives birth to a better tomorrow.

Priyadarshini Seva Mandali works with several projects, including mid-day meal program for

the destitute aged citizens, HIV children nutrition projects along with medical support and

primary education, Vocational training for women and organizing PPTCT centre for the

pregnant women throughout the Khammam town. PSM also has a destitute senior citizens

home at Hyderabad for the unprivileged senior citizens.

We also run HIV/AIDS awareness campaign throughout the remote parts of the Khammam

district, in order to eradicate the root causes of HIV/AIDS. PSM is also involved in children

nutrition program in collaboration with ‘Clinton Foundation’. We put endeavor to help the

HIV/AIDS patients with necessary medicines and we have also arranged special homes for

them to ensure we take proper care of them. With support from the Clinton foundation, we are

also providing them adequate nutrition and ART medicine for their fast recovery.

Along with YRG CARE Chennai, we conducted PPTCT campaign. Through this campaign, we

ensure pregnant women give birth to perfectly healthy child, without HIV/AIDS.

With our projects, we try to change the scenario of the unprivileged class, who are suffering

from the clutches of unemployment, poverty, illnesses, malnutrition and lack of education.

During 2014-2015, the following programs were organized in khammam and Rangareddy

districts of Telangana to achieve substantial rural development through result oriented

efforts.

HIV/AIDS Children Nutrition support

ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR

HIV/AIDS Children nutrition support

Among all the development workers of our society, a concern always works to support

those numerous people suffering from HIV/AIDS. Priyadarshini Seva Mandali (PSM) in

collaboration with GiveIndia and some donors organizing this project to make sure that the

effective support and treatment goes to those children who are fighting with HIV/AIDS. In

this HIV/AIDS initiative program, some of the AIDS children are being supported by Give

India as well as some of our local donors.

Initially, we started with 40 children in the Khammam district, however, now the number

has reached to 110 children throughout Khammam. With this HIV/AIDS initiative program

we make sure that their CD4 counting is done at regular interval and it improves with each

count. We also ensure that they are getting their daily dose of ART medicines. Apart from

healthcare, with our intervention they are attending school regularly to shape a better

future.

We have also been mobilized for necessary testing and have been supported with

medicines and nutritional support. This activity is implemented in coordination with the

NGOs, social activists and CBOs working with the effected and for the effected.

In this program, apart from providing nutrition to the AIDS suffering children, we counsel

their parents to come out of the shell and overcome the social stigma.

HIV/AIDS Children medical support

Priyadarshini Seva Mandali has organized education and medical support program for the HIV/AIDS children for providing them a shining tomorrow with the gift of perfect health and a future.

With the HIV/AIDS Children Education and Medical support programs, we work in several

mandals of Khammam district. We have reached to nearly 60 children for medical support and

25 children for society, who needs our support to come out of the shell of poverty they live in.

Mid-day meals program (old aged citizens)

While working on several projects, we have observed several old aged citizens throughout

Khammam, who hardly get one meal a day. That is when we decided to start a program that

offers mid-day meal for the old aged citizens. In support from Give India and Local donors, we

successfully started off with our program to support a full meal to old aged citizens.

We render this service to as many as 50 old aged citizens per day. The beneficiaries of this

program belong to the lowest rung of the society and are hardly able to get a meal a day. Apart

from providing mid-day meal to them, we ensure they are properly taken care of with adequate

medical facilities and by extending them moral support.

A Destitute Senior Citizens Home – Hyderabad

Priyadarshini Seva Mandali has founded a destitute senior citizen home at the heart of

Hyderabad to provide a shelter to the senior citizens apart from providing them with complete

medical, nutritional and psychological needs in order to create a difference in their lives. The

beneficiary of this program belongs to the lowest rung of the society and those who are

disowned by their families. With round the clock medical support, nursing facilities for the bed

ridden and food and nutrition, we have tried to create a homely atmosphere for the senior

citizens.

Salient features of the Program

- Shelter and Food

The elderly citizens are provided with basic facilities such as food, accommodation, clothes and

safe drinking water apart from the safe shelter

- Medical facilities

We give a thorough medical checkup and health monitoring to all the elderly people stay with

us in our senior citizen home within a regular time interval. General treatments are treated at

the home itself. During medical emergencies, the medical and the paramedical staffs look after

the patients in order to heal them. For patients with diabetes and blood pressure problems are

kept under constant medical supervision with prescribed diet.

Not just food and medical checkup, we believe mental health also does matter to keep our

lovely senior citizens happy. We try to engage them in various recreational activities to keep

them glowing with health and happiness.

Priyadarshini Seva Mandali conducts the final rites of the senior citizens who breathe their last

at the home, as per their faith and rituals, when none of their family members claims to

perform the last rites.

Support for Hud hud toofan victims

We (Priyadarshini Seva Mandali) working in Khammam District, Teleangana, India for past 20 years on

HIV/AIDS and Midday Mela Program for destitute senior citizens and organizing a Destitute senior

citizens home and as in the part of our organization activities we supported to Hud hud victims poor

families to some extent and which was recently effected vizag. We supported nearly 100-120 very poor

families with required groceries like Rice, Cooking Oil, Toordhal, Tamaring, Chillipowder, Wheat flour,

broken wheat with the support of donors form global giving and some other local donors.

Conclusion:

Mrs M.Aruna, the Secretary of PSM thanked all the executive committee members for their

support and participated towards the successful implementation of PSM’s activities during the

reporting year. She reminded the members of payment of annual subscription fee which helps in

strengthening the committee for more committee and involvement. She mentioned that all the

executive committee members should actively involve and help the organization to reach many

more poor and needy slum communities and villages in the area.
