I take this time to extend my greetings, to all member, associ-ates, founders and friends of Hosanna Church and CommunityProject fraternity.

GrowthHosanna as an institution has grown tremendously in the pastfew years both in numbers and in capacity. Most pleasing isthe growth and development in capacity of the administrativestaff and general workers as well. We have also increased thenumber of service points for both social services and spiritualinterventions. These translate into us reaching many morepeople than the previous years.

Special projectsWe have established a multi drug tuberculosis resistant out-reach team headed by two registered nurses. This team drivesdaily into the community and gives prescribed injectables todiagnosed patients. We are proud of these achievements andwe covered radius of 30 km with our home based care pro-gram. The home based carers are doing a marvellous job inthis regard. The grading, piggery, pottery and egg programmesare still running accordingly.

HDLC (Hazyview Digital Learning Centre)The digital learning centre has grown from strength tostrength. The numbers have increased tremendously and weare also servicing students from our nearby schools. Becauseof the growth of the digital learning centre, we are going toneed more space.

Job creationIn partnership with the IDT, GWF (Good Works Foundation)and friends, we have created more than 150 jobs, which is a

great benefit in our community that has a 40% unemploymentratio.

Farewell to the Director Mama SipiweOur previous director Mama Siphiwe has joined the US embas-sy as a PEPFAR liaison officer for Mpumalanga. We are proudthat Hosanna has produce a person of her calibre to serve ourprovince of Mpumalanga and our country in general.

PartnershipsWe have successfully maintained all our pervious partnershiprelations and strengthened our engagement with local stakeholders namely, Hazyview Police Services, Shabalala Clinics,Hazyview Clinics and the local seven schools as we as localchurches.

Church and SpiritualityThe church is prospering, attendance now exceeds 300 perSunday, we have full time six intercessors that daily pray forthe programmes. Pastor Godwin Ogons has been redeployedto assist the senior pastorsWe continue to service the preaching points which include thefarms, schools and the factories and we have now two vehiclesallocated to the programme. We continue to facilitate thefraternal prayers and activities for the greater Hazyview area.I count it as an honour and privilege to be the chairperson ofthis fraternity.The church building and the premises are becoming small andwe are looking at building a new structure with a bigger capac-ity at our new farm.I wish to thank all who have dedicated themselves and theirtime in advancing and fulfilling the dreams and vision ofHosanna Church and Community Projects.

Having set up Hosanna from nothing in 2008 giving upher home and living in a tent while she and Solly es-tablished the project, Sipiwe moved on from her roleas Director last July to take on the demanding role asPepfar Provincial Liaison Officer for Mpumalanga.

Pepfar, the US ‘President's Emergency Plan for AIDSRelief’, supports the strengthening of Health systems;the training and mentoring of clinicians, nurses, andother healthcare providers; HIV prevention; healthservices innovation and integration; and aims tostrengthen systems for orphans and vulnerable chil-dren in South Africa.

Sipiwe will not be lost to Hosanna, however. She willstill play an active role as a Board member.

We also said goodbye with sadness and our gratefulthanks to Judith Khanyile our Professional Nurse wholeft at the end of December 2014.

With the departure of the Director, the staffgroup have taken on a more collective style ofmanaging the organisation. Each member ofthe team has taken responsibility for the day-to-day management and direction of their ar-ea of work:

Brendan O’Mahony (P/T Volunteer) acts asthe day to day Operations Manager, whilePastor Solly Solomons oversees the whole op-eration as CEO.

Three of the staff group, Biddy, Laddy andDelsie, have, under the direction of BrendanO’Mahony, undergone a year’s ‘Introductionto Management’ training to help them intheir roles. This training will continue in2015.

It is a credit to the whole team that Hosannahas continued to develop in 2014 and itbodes well for the future of the work.

Those with a “go getter” attitude know how to turn their negative thoughts intopositive actions. Rather than dismissing themselves from contention, they

welcome the challenge to learn something new.

Working with t he Expanded Public Works Programme

IDT is doing wonders for our families. With the money I earned from IDT, I managed to buy awardrobe and a television. Thanks to the Department of Public Works and Hosanna

(IDT beneficiary).

The Department of Public Works gave Hosanna the opportu-

nity again of working with the Independent Development

Trust (IDT) to help create 115 job opportunities in our local

community. In 2014 we were able to enhance the socio-

economic development of 156 individuals.

The beneficiaries are responsible for different work in Ho-

sanna’s premises. Some work as administrators; some in the

community as part of our Home Based Care Team. Others

work with the Orphans and Vulnerable Children cooking for

them daily and offering personal, spiritual and emotional

support. Some work as cleaners, cleaning offices and the

auditorium. A couple are involved in the sewing project,

while others take care of the pigs and the chickens. Others

help with maintaining the vegetable garden and with keep-

ing the grounds clean and presentable.

A number of workers are sent out to to carry out general

work with different institutions in the local community.

These include Tfolinhlanhla and Ifalethu Primary Schools;

Hazyview, Shabalala and Sand River Clinics; Hazyview SAPS;

Yandeya Farming; and Oakley Home Based Care team.

An AwardWinning Team

On the 30th of October 2014 Hosanna won a pro-

vincial price for Excellency in implementing the Ex-

panded Public Works Programme (EPWP). In

November Hosanna was awarded the national

prize for Excellency in implementing EPWP.

This are significant awards and reflect well on the

hard work and commitment of the Hosanna team,

and especially on the work of Laddy Success

Mashaba who heads up the IDT Programme.

Children

It has been a busy year working with the OVC’s, as we have introduced new

practical skills that are part of everyday living and have promoted social

skills and emotional health .

We are encouraging the care providers to provide warmth and affectionate

through expression, laughter, voice and words.

The food menu considers all nutritional values that is recommended by the

World Health Organisation

We have required medical scales through the lottery funds. This enables

the professional nurse to weigh and height the children and young people

every month. She has also been busy doing physical examinations on a

quarterly basis to monitor the children’s health.

The OVC’s now have a routine eve-ry day that includes the following● Hand washing

● Eating at table and learninghow to use cutlery

● Taking responsibility to helpclean the dishes, tidy up thedining area every day.

● Three days per week are spentlearning At GWF

● Two days per week activitiesare planned at Hosanna

● Several young girls are learn-ing to knit

● The younger children havethe opportunity to read withthe help of Della Peplow (P/TVolunteer)

● We have set several goals forthe coming year:

● to encourage the childrenand young people to improvetheir behaviour and socialskills through sport.

● To provide the children withopportunities to be able tomake choices and help themto understand the conse-quences of their actionsthrough play, conversationand stories.

Working in the Community

Our Home Based Care programme provides assistance forpeople in the community who are living with HIV/AIDS, tuber-culosis, cancer, and other life threatening illnesses. A trainednurse goes out daily to administer injections to people withMulti-Drug resistance TB.

Our Home Based Carers are based in the Community and eachday visit the homes of those who are ill to help them and theirfamilies live as healthily as possible. This can involve anythingfrom teaching basic hygiene and help with maintaining cleanli-ness around the home. Staff also instruct patients how totake their medication and check dates on their treatmentcards to ensure that they are attending the local clinic at therequired times.

In addition the work aims to sustain TB patients to ensurethere are no defaulters from the programme, essential if thespread of TB is to be contained. On average 29 TB patients aretaken care of everyday with the aim of getting them into re-mission from Multi-Drug Resistance TB

Staff also work with local clinics, police and social services tohelp to trace any patients who disappear from the programmeand to get them back into treatment. They also assist patientsto apply for for social grants and distribute blankets clothesand other necessities that are donated to Hosanna from localsponsors.

We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation,suffering, gender and other discrimination.

To keep the Home Based Care and the Or-phan & Vulnerable Children work runningat a minimum basic level, we need at leastR 1,5 million a year in cash funds. However,there are many NGOs in need of supportwho are competing for available funds, andsince we, without prior warning and with-out explanation, lost the support from Di-mension Data, we have been struggling tofind donors to cover that gap.

During the financial year the following ap-plications for sustainable support havebeen submitted:

Rand Water, Mercedes, Nedbank, Coca Co-la, Lions Club in Sweden, Vodacom. None,

except for Lions, has resulted in financialsupport. The money from Lions gave us theopportunity to upgrade the kitchen andcontribute to the future financing of a vehi-cle, essential for our Home Base Care work.

On the bright side it is worth mentioningthat marketing and branding activities havegiven some result. The homepage has beenupdated and it is now attracting about 700visits per month. We have gained increasedattention on local media and the brandingwith letter head and stringent and conse-quent use of our logo have resulted insmall donations in kind from small businessand local organisations
