Dear Achieving Angels,
October is a great month to zoom towards success. For one, it's Customer Servicemonth. What will you do this month to make sure your business is set up to give thevery best customer service you can? Remember, the most important part ofcustomer service is asking questions! Do you know what excites your customers? When you pre-profile a guest, do you ask about her needs and make sure youunderstand what she will be most interested in? It is always easier to keep yourcurrent customers than to develop new business. The better customer service yougive, the more likely someone is to be a customer for life. Your life-long customersare also the first to send you referrals and tell their friends they would be great doingwhat you do! Always do all you can to keep your current customers happy– they willtell their friends!
In Mary Kay, we operate on the Golden Rule– do you call your customers as often asyou’d like to be called? Do you ask them how often they’d like to be called? Whenyou ask good questions, they will tell you anything you need to know! I encourageyou to begin today by writing down examples of good customer service in action! Doyou love shopping at a certain store because the employees ask you what they cando to help? Do you drive farther to get to that store for that reason? Do you lovedining at certain places because of their great service? Take a few days to write thelist. Take it with you in the car and make notes while sitting in line or when you leavea store. At the end of the week, double check your current systems for running yourbusiness against that list. Do you follow up on products when an A-list customer triessomething new? Do you recommend new colors based on her preference? Do youkeep good records of all the products she has ordered in the past? Do you pre-profileeach class and follow up afterwards? Do you return phone calls and e-mailspromptly? Do you have the products she needs on hand? People always say youhave to give to receive. Make sure you are giving great customer service, and youwill receive GREAT customers!
We need to be others focused in the month of October. Not only is this customerservice month, it’s also domestic violence awareness month. As you know, this wasa cause near and dear to Mary Kay’s heart, which is why it’s one of the mainfocuses of the Mary Kay Foundation. I encourage you to do your part. Whetherthat’s sharing about our foundation at each skin care class or encouraging customersto round up their order a few dollars and donating those proceeds to the foundation, there are so many great ways to get involved. We can all do our part.
Now that we’re all thinking about the holiday season, I want to encourage you to takea moment at the beginning or end of each day and measure your success. So oftenwe run from fire to fire this time of year and instead we need to focus. Begin eachday focused on the result you want from that day and what behaviors will take youthere. Some days will be simpler than others, and a lot of days you may find ways tosneak your business in at perfect times. Can you deliver product to your children’ssports games? How about making phone calls while waiting to pick them up? Intoday’s high-tech world we can respond to emails while standing in line. This is onegreat option, but so is putting your phone down and warm chatting with the womanwaiting next do you. I know that if you have a few key things you’re focusing on eachday, you can figure out what key behaviors will get you the best results. Make sure tojust focus on what is within your control, not the response, and you’ll have the bestsuccess. For example: how many calls you want to make, classes to book, etc. asyour goal. That way you don’t stop calling until you get the results you’re looking forrather than being frustrated by customers who can’t book today.
I know we are going to have an incredible month. Our new products are fabulous. We've gotten a lot of great momentum from last month's sharing promotion, and I justknow a lot of our unit is going to "Fall Into Red" this month! Will you join us byworking your business and making this your best holiday season ever? You canmake any dream come true that you truly desire and are willing to do the work tofulfill! Let's make it happen!

Mary Kay Dates to Remember:
It’s Customer Service Month!! WHY CUSTOMER EVANGELISM WORKS Customer evangelism is the most effective form of advertising available –and it’s mostly free. Customer evangelism works for five reasons. 1. The volunteer salesperson is a trusted friend or advisor. 2. The advice is coming from an independent source, not the manufacturer. 3. The message is usually genuine and free of hype. 4. The value of the product or service is personalized for the recipient. 5. The referrer explains the value until it’s fully understood by the recipient.
As a marketer, entrepreneur, or something in between, your job is to help those naturally occurring roots grow deeper. Customer evangelism cuts through the muck of advertising clutter. Friends, family, and colleagues influence our behavior more than any repetitive ad or aggressive salesperson can. Why are customer evangelists the ultimate salespeople? · They know your target audience better than you because they are the target audience. · They can search out & find others just like themselves faster & easier than you can. · They know what your prospective customers do for a living. · They know where your prospects live. · They translate your value proposition into words the prospects will understand.
Research conducted in the 1990s by TARP, a customer loyalty research firm, shows that satisfied customers
tell an average of 5 to 8 people about their experience with a
company or a product; dissatisfied customers tell 10 to 16 people.

Words of Wisdom by Mary Kay Ash
The world is full of competent people who honestly intend to do
things tomorrow or as soon as they can get around to it.
Accomplishments, however, seldom match those of less
talented people who are blessed with a sense of the importance of
getting started now.
A Great Lesson on Rejection from Ann Vertel I remember the first time I was allowed to go out trick-or-treating on Halloween night with just my friends. (Of course, I'm sure my dad was following along at a safe distance, but he'll neither confirm nor deny that accusation!) Our mission was a singular one - get as much candy as possible in the shortest amount of time. In other words, I wanted my big plastic orange pumpkin overflowing with goodies. We literally ran from house to house as we scoured our neighborhood intent upon our goal. On occasion, we approached a house, rang the bell, and nothing happened. The lights were on but no one answered the door. Put in that situation, what do most kids do? They move on to the next house. "Come on, let's go," and they're headed down the block. They don't stop for a second to wonder why the owners didn't answer the door. They don't take it personally. They don't think that they're wearing the wrong costume. They don't walk around the house peering in the window trying to see why the owners
didn't answer the doorbell. They don't sit down on the front step and pout. And can you even imagine that they would just quit and go home? No way. You see, kids are neat people to observe with regard to how they handle rejection. It just never occurs to them that the rejection is about them! And why? Because it's not. Kids have a unique ability to observe the world just the way it is. As we grow up, our self-esteem takes a few hits, and we start to think that everything that happens to us is about us. It's not. When you hear “No, no thanks, I'm not interested, it's not for me, I don't like selling, please don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever call me again for any reason whatsoever”....it is about them, not you, and not the opportunity you have to offer. Run to the next house, and the next one, and the next one. That's where the candy is. Remember, your goal is a full plastic pumpkin, and you don't care which houses or how many houses it takes to make that happen.
