“National French Toast Day”

On This Day in History1520 – Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan reached the Pacific Ocean after passing through the South American strait that was named after him. He was the first European to sail the Pacific from the east.1922 – Capt. Cyril Turner of the Royal Air Force gave the first public exhibition of skywriting. He spelled out “Hello USA. Call Vanderbilt 7200” over New York’s Time Square.1929 – Ernie Nevers of the St. Louis Cardinals became the first professional football player to score six touchdowns in a single game. 1963 – U.S. President Lyndon Johnson announced that Cape Canaveral would be renamed Cape Kennedy.

ChorusChorus rehearsals are Monday and

Newspaper Club

Staff members of the Newspaper Club will meet today after school in Room 223.

Ronald McDonald House CharitiesGrissom is once again collected pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House

Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than

$40,000 from this program. A collection box will be in the Commons

for your donations!

6th/7th Grade Girls Volleyball Tryouts

Tryouts for 6th and 7th grade girls volleyball will be held from 7:30-8:30 am on Monday, Dec. 11th and

from 3:15-4:45 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 12th. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and

should be turned in to Coach Chicvara by Friday, Dec. 8th.

Zumba Club

Zumba Club will meet after school Thursday in Room 111 until 4:00.

Hot LunchTomorrow is Hot Lunch! Please

remember to thank the parents serving you. Without them, there would be no

Hot Lunch program.

Jazz BandJazz Band rehearses at Prairie View every Wednesday after school from

4:00-5:15 pm.

Cheer/Dance TeamTryout forms for the Cheer/Dance team are available in the rack outside the Main Office. They are due back to Mrs. Griffin in Room 210

by Thursday, Nov. 30th. Mandatory clinic is Tuesday, Dec. 5th with tryouts Wednesday and

Thursday, Dec. 6th and 7th.

6th Grade Book Club

Sixth grade Book Club members will meet after school Thursday in Room

115.

Crayola ColorCycleStudents and teachers will soon be collecting used

markers (any brand!) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook

meals and more! Boxes will be located in the Commons. The Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic

out of landfills each year! Remember, don’t throw out that used marker – ColorCycle it!

Internet SafetyPlease remind your parents to attend the Internet

Safety presentation that will be held tonight 28th at 7:00 pm here at Grissom. Det. Bonerak from the

Tinley Park Police Department will be the presenter. (This meeting is for parents only!)

8th Grade Girls BasketballCongratulations to the 8th

grade girls on their 39-26 win over Evergreen! The Lady Patriots were led by Bella

Lemus, Aaliyah Walker and Asia Findley. Good luck at the

tournament!

Student SupportBefore and after school

Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each

morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday.

You must arrive at the beginning of the session and

stay for the whole time!

Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge

Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles

from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please

remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we’ve saved 4,110 bottles from

landfills! Let’s beat last year’s total!
