166 ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT FIRST CIRCULAR XIIth INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF ENTOMOLOGY LONDON 1964 Dear Colleague, The XIIth International Congress of Entomology will take place in London from 8th-16th July 1964, under the presidency of Professor O. W. Richards, F.R.S. It is with much pleasure that I am sending you, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, this invitation to attend the Congress. London has always been of the greatest importance to taxonomists, because of the incom- parable collection of the British Museum (Natural History). Those who study other branches of entomology will, however, find that London has much to offer them as well. The constituent Colleges of the University include departments with a tradition of entomological research and teaching; several important research institutes and field stations are situated in or near London; while within easy reach of the capital are the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, both closely connected with major advances in entomological science. The Congress will be divided into twelve sections (see under for an indication of their scope) and emphasis will be placed on sessions organized around selected topics of current importance, to which contributions will be invited from intending members. Visits are being planned both to research institutes and to well known collecting areas. Social functions will include evening receptions and excursions to places of historic or general interest, while a special programme is being arranged for ladies. Longer tours of the scenically more interesting parts of Great Britain will be available after the Congress. Full Membership is open to all at a fee of s sterling. Full Members' families and undergraduate students are eligible for Associate Membership at s but will not receive the printed Proceedings and may not read papers. The languages of ~he Congress are English, French and German. If you are hoping to attend, please fill in and return the enclosed postcard as soon as possible and in any case before 31st December, 1962. A more detailed programme and all neccessary application forms will then be sent to you in June, 1963. If you know of anyone who wishes to attend the Congress but has not received this preliminary invitation, would you be kind enough to inform me at the address below. c/o British Museum (Natural History), Yours sincerely, Cromwell Road, PAUL FREEMAN, London, S.W.~, England.
