Front cover of XXL Music Magazine

This is the main images of the front cover of the magazine. This images have two person looking directly at the camera, which make the reader think they’re interacting with them. In my magazine i’m going to have one person as my main image looking directly at the camera.

Barcode with the price of the magazine .

The masthead is the title block or logo identifying the magazine at the top of the front cover.

The headline is the main statement , usually in the large text. In my magazine i’m going to have the headline is bright read and font size approximately 60.

The type of clothes they wear appeals to the reader of this type of magazine.

Menu

This is the menu also known as the contents page. This is a list of contents that inside the magazine.

In my magazine i’m going to have contents page featuring the information that’s going to be in my magazine, so that my magazine can look professional.

I like the heading of the contents page that they put in bold and to standout.

In this type of magazine they use a lot of slang to correspond to their reader and target audience

Caption

The caption is the typed text under photographs explaining the image. By doing that is makes the magazine look more specialized

I like the image they use. The background is dark which brings out the context of the image more.

The position of text is similar to other magazine

Spread

The spread is a story that covers more than one page in a magazine

They used large font size at the title of the page and the they used a collage of colour to make the page standout more with the image they used.

Double page spread

This is a double page spread of XXL Magazine.

I like the way the layout of the double page spread is. This give me a idea of how I want my magazine double page spread to look like.

I am going to have similar layout like this in my magazine. I am going to going to have a column on one page and on the other page I am going to have a close up shot image of a person.

I like the way they use the large Y on the page, because the sentence start off with “you looking awesome”

Double page spread

Another type of double page spread that I can include in my magazine. This is a good layout of the page, it is unusual.

I am going to have a similar layout of this magazine in my own because they are both from the same genre.

Point

Example

Explanation

The front cover of the magazine applied to the reader of the magazine. The front cover also appeals to fan of the couple who are expecting a baby.

For example the cover line of the magazine “with the bangin’ new album...”

The phrase “with the bangin, new album, his own label...” implied and giving the reader a swift and quick view of that inside the magazine and also gives the reader little information about the artist and what’s going on in his life.

What elements can you incorporate into your own magazine?

I can incorporate with the planning of my music magazine and XXL Magazine. By looking and analysing other music magazine such as XXL, vibe, source magazine etc with the same the genre that I am interesting in basing and doing my magazine as, it give me the knowledge of the types of things that should be included in a magazine. For example some of the elements that going to integrate with my own magazine and XXL Magazine is the types of images they use and the layout of the page.

What conventions do you need to be professional?

In XXL Magazine they used a good ranges of conventions for example they used the most important convention that should always be in a magazine. In my magazine i’m also planning on using some of the most important conventions in order to make my magazine look more certified and professional. Some of the conventions I am going to include in my magazine includes:

Red – most hip-hop magazine have red as there background or in there masthead.

Black – going to be the background of most of the pages.

White – make the magazine look and add more positive to the theme.

Blue – make the magazine look extra creative.
