Mission Statement The Canadian Religious Conference both serves and speaks on behalf of the leaders of religious institutes and societies of apostolic life. The CRC’s mission is to encourage its members to fully live out their vocation to follow Christ. The CRC supports its members in their prophetic witness to justice and peace, within both society and the Church. ANNEX 6

DONATIONS PRIORITY SERVICE

Human dignity, social justice, equity, mutual aid and solidarity are values that are integral to

the mission of religious communities. In the interest of promoting human dignity, respect for

the environment and solidarity with the underprivileged, religious communities in Quebec

have established a Donations Priorities Service (SPD).

This Service is mandated to receive applications for financial assistance from community

organizations and to analyze the applications according to the religious communities’ pre-

established intervention criteria.

The members of the “Round Tables” have held four meetings in the past two years.

The themes developed:

Becoming integrated into Québec as newcomers: a challenge, but at what cost?

The main legal measures protecting the environment—recent actions and litigation

Faith and Commitment: pillars of our hope

The rights of immigrant and seasonal workers (April 27, 2018)

The work is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the members of this committee

(1 man religious and 6 women religious) plus members of the social ministry in the dioceses.

This collaboration facilitates the visit of groups in the different regions of Quebec, with the

aim of reassuring the communities that the work of those groups properly responds to their

intervention criteria on the causes of poverty.

In the last two years, 620 requests have been analyzed and 350 groups have been visited. In 2017,

about 300 groups received financial support from religious communities whose applications go

through the CRC. Since January 2018, 100 recommendations have been sent to the communities

and 225 requests will be analyzed and referred by August 15, 2018.

The organizations recognize the contribution of the communities in supporting their projects.

Beyond the funding itself, it means recognition and moral support. Of course, this partnership

helps community organizations fulfill their mission and achieve their goals. But the opposite

is also true: community organizations help religious communities to fulfill their mission.

REPORT OF THE THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION

The mission of the Theological Commission, as stated on the CRC website, is twofold: to

deepen the meaning of consecrated life according to a theological approach that

integrates the contributions made by human sciences, and to propose future avenues

that will update consecrated life in a creative and prophetic way, while taking into account

the charisms of the congregations.

The main vehicle for communicating the reflection of the Commission to CRC membership

is the CRC Bulletin. Commission members coordinate and write the articles for the winter

Bulletin each year. Commission members also contribute occasionally to regional

workshops or gatherings of the CRC.

We have met four times since the last general Assembly. Much of our meeting time is

devoted to our main task as commission, the planning for and writing of the winter CRC

Bulletin. We take time to reflect on the themes of the General Assemblies and endeavour

to integrate these in the Bulletin. In the 2017 winter Bulletin, we engaged the Assembly

2016 priorities of moving together toward a new world view, and the implications for all

our relationships, particularly relationships among women and men in church and society.

Our articles for the winter 2018 Bulletin had as theme ‘Pathways to Hope’ and explored

dimensions of Christian hope as experienced in consecrated life today.

Over the past two years, we have attempted to track the number of readers who access

our Bulletins via email, or directly on the CRC website (about 4 000 hits since the 2016

General Assembly).

Our membership has been quite stable over the past two years. In autumn of 2017,

Antoine Emmanuel de la Sayette resigned from the commission to move to a new mission

in Italy. Louis Riverin left the Commission in winter 2018. We are thankful for their

presence in our midst, and their valuable contribution to our work. Yvan Mathieu, SM, of

Saint-Paul University, Ottawa was appointed to the Commission in winter 2018.

Annex 7: Report of the Theological Commission | CRC General Assembly | May 24-27, 2018 2

Our present membership is:

Atlantic member: Lorraine d’ Entremont, SC

Members from Quebec: Celia Chua, MIC

Gaétane Guillemette, NDPS

Michel Proulx, O PRAEM.

Members from Ontario: Yvan Mathieu, SM

Gill Goulding, CJ

Western member: Margaret Patricia Brady, OSB

Our report would be incomplete without the acknowledgement of our ‘supporting cast’:

A recording secretary for our meetings;

Translation services for meetings and articles;

Louise Stafford, publishing manager of CRC Bulletins, who ensures our articles are

correct and attractively presented;

A connection with CRC Administration provided by the presence of Timothy Scott

or other administrative staff at our meetings.

We are most grateful for all these services and the people who provide them.
