　Regional customs headquarters and branch offices are located at sea ports （open ports） and airports （customs airports） for foreign trade as stations for import/export cargo clearance and for controlling vessels and aviation. Some offices are around inland distribution hubs. Customs also responds to administrative demand in various parts of Japan.

History of Japan Customs

The h istor y of Japan Customs i s closely interwoven in the history of the economic growth of Japan. Since the inauguration of customs system in the Meiji Era （1868 - 1912） Japan Customs has duly played its roles.

Commodore Matthew Perry arrived in Uraga, Kanagawa Prefecture,

as an emissary of American President Fillmore.

Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed with the U. S. A.（June）,

Netherlands（July）, Russia（July）, U.K.（July） and France （September）.

Hakodate, Kanagawa and Nagasaki Ports opened to international trade. （Unjosho were built）

Import duty agreements signed with the U. S. A. , the Netherlands, U.K. and France.

All“Unjosho” throughout Japan were renamed as“customs”on November 28

In 2019, "Others" in the methamphetamine graph of origin represents a significant number, which is 1,710kg, and this is because the number includes the cases of offshore transaction(i.e. 1 ton at the southwestern of Torishima and 578kg at the eastern China sea) whose origins have not been identified.
