As a conceptual project made during second year studio, we began to explore different forms for building and model making.
This model features a non- denominational chapel, a place for contemplation.
In designing the non denominational chapel was the decision to create this sense of upward motion.
The high ceilings are reminiscent of typical religious structures which emphasizes the intake of natural light. Moving from lower ceilings towards a progression in height further perpetuates the contemplative and ethereal atmosphere.

For this third year project we were instructed to create a glass blowing work shop as well as a secondary space within the facilities to serve as a dual purpose business. I decided to develop a space with a building facade that would match the adjacent buildings within Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, KS.
Mass. Street Site Location 11th Street
As for the secondary space I decided to build a green house botanical garden on the buildings roof in order to use the space as an alternate display area for the glass blown
art. At the buildings entrance a garden pathway was integrated for the purpose of continuity.

The following project in Kansas City, KS consisted of developing a proposal for a safer and walkable environment for the families and community areas
surrounding Central Avenue as well as re-developing Bethany Park Towers.
With M.E. Pearson, the Community Center, Bethany Park, as well as Bethany Park Towers (apartment buildings) being located just
within reach of one another, I decided to dive into the concept of the role that Bethany Towers plays
in acting as a potential gemstone in the community and how activated spaces along this
corridor can benefit in centralizing Central Avenue.
My building site lies between 12th and 11th Street, upon the streetscape of Central Avenue
and bleeds into a proposed event space located within Bethany Park. The current
programing of the Apartment Building lacks an interactive community space and fails to
engage the community members despite its raw potential. Through re-programing the
layout of Bethany Towers and re-developing its facade and streetscape we
have the ability to engage the community through the knowledge of culinary arts, healthy
lifestyles, and family oriented events placed daily. The goal is to provide the community
with the rich environment this site was made for. Through holding these activities and events
daily and producing a space that facilitates this creativity, this would ideally be an area for neighbors to come together and socialize as a
truly unified community.

Bethany Park Towers initially had off street parking along the center of its site which allowed cars to
pass through the area.
In the proposed site, cars are blocked off from invading the space, and are redirected to a
parking lot towards the back as well as under the building.
By redirecting traffic from the front to the back we allow for more pedestrian
traffic. Thus giving opportunity for neighboring
businesses to thrive.
PROGRAMAs it currently stands, the context of Bethany Towers’
program is that of a square.
OPPOSITION
Breaking up the program into pieces and staggering them creates void spaces reminiscent of the
shelter of the surrounding pavilions.
BALANCEOffsetting the pieces of program slightly allows for
the space surrounding the area.
CENTRALITY OF THE VOID
The ‘void’ allows for a centralized circulation space
