Anne Frank (1929- 1945)

Anne Frank was born to the parents of Otto Frank and Edith Hollander in 1929. She

was born in Frankfurt am Main, Weimar Germany.

___________________________________________________________________

As a child she was Jewish. She had

many friends that were Jewish too. Anne

and her friends were about 10 years old

when Adolph Hitler came into power of

Germany. He was made head or

president of the group he was in called

the Nazis. Soon Hitler came to the

conclusion that Jewish people were the

cause to any sickness or any bad feeling

to Germans.

 ___________________________________________________________________

Hitler started making rules that Jewish

people couldn't go certain places like

parks or even sit on public benches.

Anne and her friends liked to go to the

movies and walk to friends houses, but

as Hitler gained more power and made

more rules Anne and her friends couldn't

go see movies anymore.

_______________________________________________________________________

Hitler soon made Jews wear the yellow

star of David that said "Jude" meaning

Jewish. Every Jew had to wear one,

including Anne, on their coats and all

their clothes that were visable to the

public. If the Jews didn't wear the stars

they would be put in prison, or even

worse, killed. In Anne's village or

neighborhood even people who were not

Jewish were wearing the stars, standing

up for the Jews.

 ______________________________________________________________________

The Nazis were angered by this. They

hated it so they started taking the non-

jews who wore the star of David to

concentration camps in Auchwitz. At the

camps the had jobs, very hard, jobs for

the prisoners that worked them to death.

Page 2: Anne Frank Biography

They also had prison cells. But worst of all they had gas chambers.

_______________________________________________________________________

Hitler made the Jews go to

different schools then the non- jewish

children. Anne and her sister Margot

went to Jewish Secondary School now

known as the Anne Frank School. In 1942

Anne and her family went into hiding in

the top two floors of Otto Frank's office

building along with the Van Pels

family. While in hiding another person

joined the Frank and Van Pels families in

hiding. His name was Fritz Pfeffer. He

was a dentist.

_______________________________________________________________________

The Franks went into hiding because

Margot Frank got a call up notice to work

for the Nazis in Germany at

concentration camps.

_______________________________________________________________________

In hiding the Franks, Van Pels, and

Pfeffer had 4 helpers who got them there

things like, books, news, and food.

During the day the Anne had to be silent

and sitting still in her room even if she

had to use the bathroom because if the

workers were in the building they

couldn't walk around because it made to

much noise or use the sink or the toilet

because it would mean that they were

hiding. During these long silences Otto

Frank and Hermann Van Pels, the

father's of the children Margot and Anne

Frank and Peter Van Pels, would give the

children work to do like Mathematics

problems and Reading work because

Anne, Margot, nor Peter could go to

school.

On August 4th 1944 Anne was helping

Peter with his studies when all of the

sudden a man came up the staircase

hollering with a gun pointed at the

Franks, Van Pels, and Pfeffer. That day

they were brougt to concentration camps

in Auchwitz. Otto Frank was put to work,

Peter Van Pels was put on a death walk,

Anne and Margot were sentenced to a

jail cell, Hermann Van Pels was killed in

the gas chamber, Edith Frank died of

exhaustion, Auguste Van Pels died in

transport from Bergen Belsen, the camp

that Margot and Anne were kept at, to

Theresienstadt. Sadly, Margot and Anne

both died in March 1945 of a disease

called typhus.

______________________________________________________________________

After the war Otto Frank was "released"

by the Nazis. Otto goes home and finds

out that no one else that hid with him in

the Secret Annex is coming home. Miep

Gies one of the helpers handed Otto

Anne's famous diary. Otto read it,

changed most of the names and

published it. Now Anne's diary is famous

and published, and written in thousands

of different languages.
