How can I explore and respond creatively to a theme?

• Explore a variety artists works

• Look at the artworks for inspiration and form your own opinion – do you like the artwork and why? If not, why not?

• Respond to the different themes by producing a piece of work based around that topic.

§ Artists all around the world, both working now and in the past base their work around different themes.

§ For art this week we are going to be looking at some common themes that occur in art.

§ In some artworks it will be easy to tell what the theme is and in others it will be very difficult. This doesn’t make it wrong, it just means that the artist works in a abstract way. There is no right or wrong when it comes to art.

§ The same thing can be said about liking a piece of artwork. You don’t need to like every piece but you should be able to explain why you do or don’t like a piece of art. This skill will help you become a better artist.

§ Your task today is to create your own artwork based on the theme of ANIMALS.

§ What do animals mean to you?

§ Again use any materials you have available.

§ If you are stuck for ideas you could: § Draw a pet

§ Paint a picture of your favourite animal

§ Create a collage of an animal

Remember to send a picture of your work to your class teacher.

This task can be completed individually or as a sibling collaboration.
