Centrioles Centrioles are only found in animal cells

    and they replace themselves. Centrioles

are used to help in organizing celldivision although they are not needed.

Cilia and Flagella They help move groups of cells materials and

fluids past cells that cant move. The cilia is

made up of hair like structures.COL function- Locomotion

    Endoplasmic reticulum

A system of sacs that make, process and

    transport chemical compounds. It

provides a pipeline between the nucleusand the cytoplasm.

    COL function- transport

    Golgi bodies

    used for processing and distributing

    materials and chemicals around and

outside the cell. It is just like the FedExof a cell.

    Microtubules

microtubules are only found in eukaryotic

cells and are straight hollow cylinders

found in the cytoplasm. They have manyfunctions including: Transport, structure

    support etc.

    Lysosomes

Lysosomes are used to digest waste

products and debris from outside the cell.

It then turns them into simple chemicalcompounds to be used as new building

    materials.

    Mitochondria

A bean shaped organelle that turns

oxygen and nutrients into energy. They

are found in the cytoplasm of eukaryoticcells.

    Nucleus

The nucleus is like a brain of a cell that

contains the DNA. It helps the cell

interact and tells all its parts what to do. COL function- all

    Peroxisomes

Peroxisomes are a type of microbody.

Microbodys are Spherical and found in

the cytoplasm. Peroxisomes are themost common type of microbody. They

    are used to detoxify things.

    Cell Membrane

The cell membrane is the outer wall of

the cell that keeps bad things out and

lets good things in. It helps to protect theinside of the cell.

    Ribosomes

all cells have ribosomes. Ribosomes are

made up of exactly 60% RNA and 40%

protein. In eukaryotes they have 4strands of RNA but only 3 in prokaryotes.

They are used for processing proteins.

    COL function- nutrition, synthesis andmetabolism.

Cytoplasm It holds the parts in the cell together. It is a

clear type jelly that surrounds the parts of

    the cell. COL function- none

    Facts

Animal cells have all the same organelles as

    stem cells.

The earliest fossil evidence of an animal isfrom 650 million years ago

Cells were first discovered in 1665

Scientists can take apart a cell and extractthe organelles
