Newsletter of the Umpqua

Valley Humane Society

The Umpqua Valley Humane Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1953 in Douglas

County. We have a no-host meeting on the 3rd

Thursday of each month at noon located at

The Roseburg Country Club. Everyone is welcome. Please join us.

Miss July

From our 2017 Calendar

A Joyful Blessing

Babe came here from Colorado only to be

taken to a local veterinarian to be put down,

because the landlord said, “No Pets.” At that time she was fifteen and very sick.

The vet stated she didn’t do “convenience”

killings and went to call Cheryl Donohoo, at the Umpqua Valley Humane Society.

Cheryl stated that she would take her and sent a representative to pick her up. For

a while , Babe was housed at the UVHS thrift store until someone would adopt her.

She was so sick that she barely ate or drank and was very listless. Babe caught the

eye of one of our volunteers, Martie, who decided to take Babe home to give her

some love until she went to the rainbow bridge. Two days after taking Babe home

Martie took her to Bailey’s for a much needed exam. Dr. Kyle did a thorough exam

and found that Babe was very sick with an infection of her teeth that had eaten

through her jaw bone and was in a lot of pain. After three months of antibiotics,

pain meds and major surgery to remove the infected teeth and suturing her gums

she started to make a turn around.

Today, Babe is a frisky and loyal pup going on seventeen. Although Babe only has

four teeth she eats me out of house and home. She loves fruits, vegetables, taco

chips and anything that can be cooked in a pan or stove.

Ever since I brought Babe home and started to recover she has been a constant

source of joy and amusement. Babe wakes me up each morning with a kiss and

makes me smile every day. She reminds me that it is treat time by barking and

following me around the house. When I come home she jumps up and down like a

rabbit and tries to stand on her little weak back legs. Every day she makes my

“Heart Smile.”

Dr. Kyle has stated how lucky Babe was to find me, but I believe it is the other

way arounds.

up to Painting or want to help with the cost of paint or painting supplies please let me know.

We are also looking for a few people that could spare 4 hours (or more) per week to help out in the thrift shoppe. If you or

someone you know wants to help make a difference and have some fun call the thrift shoppe at 541-672-5240 or stop in.

Thanks, John Vermeer – Manager
