Valley Vu Dairy Herdsman Internship An 800+ cow dairy in Cumberland, WI is looking for an animal science student with large animal experience for a herdsman internship. Internship will include experience with fresh cows, vaccinations, identifying and treating animals, working with dairy management programs including Dairy Comp 305, DelPro, and Feed Supervisor. Student Trainee Chemist The USDA Pathways Internship Program is looking to fill a position for a Student Chemistry Trainee in an accredited laboratory in Athens, GA. Interns will assist the FSIS mission in a regular laboratory on projects concerning laboratory accreditation for the analysis of meat, poultry, egg products or catfish. Midwest Dairy Associations Industry Relations Iowa Intern MDA is looking for a student interested in communications and the dairy industry for their Industry Relations Internship located in Ankeny, Iowa from June 1st to late August. Intern will be responsible for planning June Dairy Month activities, help with Iowa State Fair programming, and writing press releases. Qualifications include: experience in hunt seat riding, background in hunters, jumpers, eventing, dressage, and/or equitation, and knowledge of horse care. Responsibilities include: creating and implementing lesson plans for hunt seat riding lessons, training horses, and basic horse care. Enhanced Dairy Internship Program The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin will again offer its internship program for the summer of 2017. This is a platform to connect students with pre-qualified dairy producers for an extended and in depth on farm experience. There is no deadline and this opportunity is year-round as long as the farm is selected from a pre-approved list. For more information, contact Tracy Propst at [email protected].

Summer Equestrian Internship -Camp Greystone is a Christian and all-girls summer camp. Exotic Animal Nutrition Summer Fellow The San Diego Zoo is offering a paid summer fellowship May-October to and undergraduate Junior or Senior interested in clinical and research aspects of exotic animal nutrition. The fellow will assist with all aspects of nutrition research projects including feed sampling, observing behavior, evaluating animal health, research data entry, and formulation of diets. IDFA Summer Legislative Internship The International Dairy Foods Association is launching a summer internship program this year to offer one undergraduate student a first-hand view of the association’s efforts on dairy policy with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and federal officials in regulatory agencies. The selected candidate will work in Washington, D.C., to support IDFA’s efforts to build relationships with the new administration and new Congress, as well as efforts on the upcoming farm bill, the school lunch program, trade policy, the Nutrition Facts label and GMO disclosure standard. The internship, which is a paid position, will last 10-12 weeks, starting in May or June. The successful candidate will work with IDFA’s legislative and regulatory affairs teams on special projects, research and events, including Regulatory RoundUP, Advocacy Days and the Annual Ice Cream Party on Capitol Hill, June 12-14. Unique Internship Opportunity in Reduced-Grain Pork Roam Sticks, LLC or rural Missouri is offering a summer internship with an experimental trial aiming to increase forage consumption and reduce grain consumption in commercial pork. At the end of the study a cost/benefit will be done to compare the 3 experiment groups to the control (simple rotationally grazed pastured pigs on a full ration of Non-GMO grain) and nutrient density studies will be done on the meat and fat. The purpose of the study is to add to the body of knowledge that allows farmers to have access to hard data that can help them graze pigs and to help justify higher than grocery store prices in selling to their customers. Vienna Beef Operations Internships Vienna Beef based in Chicago, Il is searching for two Meat Science students for paid internships working with the production managers. Students will gain experience in quality assurance, shipping/receiving, boning, sausage, packaging, and smokehouse. Equine Breeding Farm Intern This position is a one-year Breeding Farm intern at the Equine Reproductive Laboratory (ERL) to gain experience in equine breeding farm procedures and management. Interns participate in a one-year, non-degree, program beginning on January 1 and finishing on December 31 or starting July 1 and finishing on June 30 of the following year. Applicants should have completed a BS in Equine Sciences, Animal Sciences, or related

YMCA Equine Facility Management Internship YMCA Camp Enrst in Northern Kentucky is hiring an intern to assist the ranch program Director with day-to-day operations. The intern will help teach riding lessons, lead trail rides, assist with horse health care, market on social media, schedule staff and horse work, and keep records. Targeting Grazing Assistant Summer 2017 Goats On The Go, LC based in Ames is hiring a Grazing Assistant for mid-May through mid-August. Assistant will travel with a herd of 250 goats to facilitate their grazing. Duties include portable fencing, monitoring animal health, and observing changes in vegetation. Assistant will be provided housing near project sites and will work in shifts of 3-5 days. Farm Camp Leaders at Camp Widji Camp Widji is a YMCA Camp offering Day Camp to 500 campers per week, Residential Camp for 250 campers per week and Ranch Camp to 200 campers per week at the Joe C Davis Outdoor Center. They offer a year- round equestrian programs as well. The majority of the ranch programs have a strong focus on horses, ground lessons and riding lessons to children of all riding levels with the exception of a program offered called Farm Camp. Farm Camp is a program that allows campers to learn and grow through the exploration of our garden and greenhouse along with all of our farm animals. We are looking for someone with agricultural experience to be the lead on our Farm Camp program this summer. This person will be responsible for our greenhouse and garden and a handful of small livestock along with a group of campers that they will work with daily. CRI Collegiate Scholarships Through the Collegiate Scholarship Program, Cooperative Resources International (CRI) serves as a financial resource for youth attending a 4-year college/university or 2-year technical college. Annually, a minimum of six $750 scholarships are offered with the goal of empowering youth to pursue careers in agriculture. Eligibility requirements: Students must attend a 4-year college/university or 2-year technical college in the fall of 2017 and pursue a degree in an agricultural field. Additionally, all applicants must be affiliated with a member of a CRI cooperative subsidiary (GENEX or AgSource Cooperative Services) by having an active role on a member's dairy or ranch. Roy A. Wallace Beef Improvement Memorial Scholarship Proceeds from the Roy A. Wallace Beef Improvement Federation Memorial Fund will be used to award scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled as fulltime students in pursuit of a degree related to the beef cattle industry. Criteria for selection will include demonstrated commitment and service to the beef cattle industry. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a passion for the areas of beef breeding, genetics, and reproduction. Additional considerations will include academic performance, personal character, and service to the beef cattle industry. Two scholarships will be offered in the amount of $1250 each. Veterinary Practice News & Genetic Engineering News Dr. Ellinwood has graciously offered to offer the print journals of both Veterinary Practice News and Genetic Engineering news. Are you having trouble in a Chemistry course? If you are currently struggling in Chemistry 167, or 177, please consider dropping back to Chemistry 50 to review basic chemistry concepts. Chemistry 50 (half-semester accelerated format), begins on Monday, March 6, and meets MTWRF at 12:10-1:00 p.m. in 1810 Gilman. There is a developmental course fee of $350 associated with Chemistry 50b. The text is Introductory Chemistry Essentials by Nivaldo Tro, 5th edition. The last day for students to drop back to Chem 50, is Friday, March 10. That date is after each of the second hour exams for Chem 163, Chem 167, and Chem 177. It gives students in those courses who had been struggling the option to drop back to review in Chemistry 50. Please note that course meets daily at 12:10 p.m. It is suggested that those considering dropping back to Chemistry 50 to make the move as soon as possible to start the course on time and derive most benefit from the course. Students should obtain a drop/add slip to drop their current chemistry class and to add Chem50. Ms. Pat Augustin in 1608 Gilman can sign the add/drop slip.

Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URA) Program The URA program encourages outstanding juniors and seniors to pursue graduate study by offering them hands-on experience in a formal research environment, and assists students in making career decisions and in attaining information about graduate education and fellowships. In its thirtieth year, the URA program continues to help students develop technical and specialized skills as well as foster originality, imagination, judgment, and patience - the traits of an independent scholar. To qualify for the URA Program, students must: Be classified as juniors or seniors by the beginning of the term employed as a URA, file the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be eligible for work study funding (be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen), maintain an ISU cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, and complete URA application (deadline of March 31) See financialaid.iastate.edu/employment/ura.php for details.

Targeting Excellence Scholarships Scholarships will be awarded to both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an agricultural curriculum at an institution that offers degrees in agriculture. Preference will always be given to applicants with a desire to work in some aspect of food animal production. A total of $165,000-$175,000 will be awarded in 2017 from the applications that are submitted. Scholarship amounts will be based on the program in which the student is enrolled: $1000 for 2 Year Programs, $2000 for 4 Year Programs, $3000 for Graduate and Veterinary Programs. Animal Science 324 - Food Processing for Companion Animals

This course counts as one of the 300 level discipline expansion courses. It should be of interest to students that have a general interest in nutrition, or that are interested in food and feed processing. Students with an interest in meat science would also find this class of value. Of course, it is applicable to companion animal and pre-vet students as well. It is offered this fall on Tue/Thur from 8:00–9:15am for 3 credits. Even though it is a lecture only class, students do get some hands-on experiences. Topics covered include meat processing and meat preservation for companion animal diets, regulatory standards, cutting edge technologies for processing meat for companion animals, dietary needs of carnivorous companion animals, effect of different processing methods on safety and nutrient bioavailability. Prereq: AN S 319, Junior Classification.

Study Abroad and fill International Perspectives Requirement The College of Engineering is excited to offer its two-week study abroad program in Sydney, Australia over winter break again this year. Students will take a shortened version of English 314 at Iowa State in the fall, and then complete the course in Sydney over winter break (December 26 - January 6). Highlights of the program will include corporate visits and cultural excursions to give students first-hand experience with technical communication in a global context. Course: English 314 (Technical Communication) Meets International Perspectives Requirement Requirements: Junior classification as of the fall, completion of English 250, and 2.8 cumulative GPA Open to all majors.
