Angular and Linear Velocity:

Lesson 38

Page 2: Angular and Linear Velocity: Lesson 38. LESSON OBJECTIVE: 1.Analyze situations involving pulleys or sprockets to study angular velocity and linear velocity

LESSON OBJECTIVE:

1. Analyze situations involving pulleys or sprockets to study angular velocity and linear velocity.

2. How are angular and linear velocity related in circular motions?

Page 3: Angular and Linear Velocity: Lesson 38. LESSON OBJECTIVE: 1.Analyze situations involving pulleys or sprockets to study angular velocity and linear velocity

DEFINITIONS1) Angular velocity: angle of

rotation about the center of a circle in a unit of time where is expressed in 𝜃radians and is time. 𝓉

2) Linear velocity: distance traveled by each point on the circle in a unit of time.

FACTS:•Larger pulleys rotate slower than the smaller pulleys.• In connection with the pedal and rear sprockets of a bicycle, the pedal sprocket is called the driver and the rear sprocket is called the follower.

Please get out the worksheet “Angular and Linear Velocity – Lesson 38” so I can show you an example of how to use angular velocity.
