e.g. EducationIn the United Kingdom
Education in schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland follows the National Curriculum which was introduced by the British government under the Education Reform Act 1988. It includes the core subjects English, Mathematics, and Science. The foundation subjects are: design and technology, information and communication technology (known as ICT), history, geography, modern foreign languages (MFL), music, art and design. The subjects of the basic curriculum are: physical education, citizenship plus compulsory religious education (RE) which has a unique place in British law.
In the United States of AmericaAmericans have shown a great concern for
education since early colonial times. Among the first settlers there was an unusually high proportion of educated men. Harvard College was founded in 1636, Yale in 1701. Before the Revolution in 1776, nine colleges had already been opened in the colonies, most of them later becoming universities. The importance of education is also shown by the fact that by 1850 every state had provided for a system of free public schools open to all and paid for by public taxes. By then state-supported colleges and universities had already been established in many states.
”I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former
slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down
together at the table of brotherhood.”Martin Luther King
