THE MISSION ACTION PLAN And some initiatives for 2015 The notes below are intended to bring parishioners up to date with some of the ideas, innovations, and changes being discussed as part of the Mission Action Plan process we have recently been engaged with, as informed by the results of the parish survey conducted during September.

St John’s Toorak

In 2015 tentative plans are taking shape for a re-launch of our services providing for families and children in particular. A number of factors feed into the proposal outlined below – the stagnated numbers at both All Age and Messy Church services, the imperative to be innovative and try new things, the fast pace of change in the world around us, and the need for the parish to look beyond the present arrangement regarding our Children’s Minister (and Assistant Curate). Most of all, the proposal set out below is being driven by the need to rationalize, and make best use of, the resources we have, in order to apply them in a way that has maximum benefit to our mission.

(i) The 8am Sunday service continues to be well attended and will not change in the foreseeable future.

(ii) From May 2015 we are planning to trial a new form of ‘family service’ that will seek to combine elements of the All Age service and Messy Church into a single service to commence around 11.15am-11.30am on the first Sunday of the month, concluding with a barbecue lunch on the south lawn (or Hall in the event of inclement weather). The launch date for this is scheduled to be Sunday 3rd May, the date of our Patronal (‘St John’s Day’) service next year.

(iii) This new service will probably impact on the 10am service on the first Sunday of the month (only) in the following ways, all of which are still in the process of being discussed and worked through – to ensure the service that day finished by 11am it will probably need to be non-Eucharistic (not include Holy Communion); it may be a good Sunday to include any Baptisms that are to take place during the course of a Sunday morning service; could it be feasible for the choir to attend and lead the service at the 8am service on that Sunday? These proposals only effect the first Sunday of each month, from May next year.

(iv) On the first Sunday of the month there will be a service of Holy Communion in the Angel Chapel at 5pm. This will give parishioners another opportunity to communicate, especially on the first Sunday when it is planned the 10am service not include the Holy Communion. The 5pm service will cease operation in its present form soon, ahead of the Christmas season, and will recommence early in 2015 as a monthly service only, on the first Sunday of each month.

All Saints Kooyong

As a result of the survey, and subsequent dialogue with the congregation, a significant change to the service time, and some new additional Sunday services, are planned for All Saints Kooyong in 2015.

(i) The Sunday service at All Saints will be at 9am from the first Sunday in January 2015. The service will continue in its current format. Each Sunday one cleric (either one of the three ministry team or one of the retired clergy supporting the congregation) will take the service at All Saints. This will be the only Sunday commitment for that cleric on that Sunday, enabling them to lead the service and stay on for coffee / tea afterwards, without the need to return to St John’s.

(ii) The Sunday morning congregation and the Urdu speaking congregation at All Saints are hoping to come together for a number of special services on a Sunday in 2015. This would take the form of a later morning service (either 10am or 11am) followed by a lunch in the church grounds. In addition to the two congregations meeting in All Saints, the services will be made widely known in the surrounding community. Tentative plans are in place for four such occasions in 2015 – in March (perhaps Palm Sunday), May (perhaps Pentecost), August, and on All Saints Day (November).

Whilst this detail is included in the recently produced Mission Action Plan document, the notes above are intended to give all parishioners clarity around the current plans and intentions, together with the opportunity to have an input, and to ask questions, ahead of the Annual Meeting on 30th November. The Venerable Dr Bradly Billings Vicar

Annual meeting papers The agenda and reports, together with the financial statements, for the 2014 annual meeting of parishioners are being distributed this year by email.

During the week the following were emailed: 1. Agenda and Reports 2. Financial Statements (four) 3. Modified Parish Rules for Meetings and Officers

Due to the length of the reports, we ask that all parishioners print a copy of these three files for their own use, or use their own device on which to read the material, and bring either the printed copy or a device on which to read the files, to the meeting on Sunday 30th November.

A limited number of paper copies will be available either this Sunday (23rd November) or on the day of the meeting for those parishioners without email (only). These can be obtained from the clergy or the parish office.

By distributing the reports electronically, we will be conserving paper and saving the cost of printing. Please assist the parish in reducing costs to remember to bring a paper or digital copy of these reports to the annual meeting with you on 30th Nov.

General business – anyone intending to raise matters of general interest at the meeting are requested to advise the parish office in advance.

Electoral Roll The revised parish electoral roll is available for viewing through the parish office and on Sundays at each centre of worship.

Annual Meeting - Sunday 30 November At its August meeting the parish council determined that the Annual Meeting of parishioners will be held this year on Sunday 30th November at St John’s Toorak, at the conclusion of the 10am service that day, commencing at approximately 11.30am in the Church.
