Opening Hymn: I am the Light of the World

RefrainI am the light of the world!

You people come and follow me!If you follow and love you’ll learn the my-ster-y

Of what you were meant to do and be.

When the song of the angels is stilled,When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and the shepherds have found their way home,The work of Christmas is begun.

Refrain

To find the lost and lonely one,To heal the broken soul with love,

To feed the hungry children with warmth and good food,To feel the earth below, the sky above!

Refrain

To bring hope to ev’ry task you do,To dance at a baby’s new birth,

To make music in an old person’s heart, and sing to the colors of the earth!

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, by grace alone you call us and accept us in your service. Strengthen us by your Spirit, and make us worthy of your call; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

First Reading: JONAH 3:1-5, 10

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF JONAH

The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.

Reader: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

Psalm: 62:5-12 page 405

5. Nevertheless, my soul, wait thou in silence upon God; for my hope is in him.

6. He truly is my strength and my salvation; he is my defence, so that I shall not fall.

7. In God is my health and my glory: the rock of my might, and in God is my trust.

8. O put your trust in him always, ye people: pour out your hearts before him, for God is our hope.

9. As for the sons of men, they are but vanity; yea, the sons of men are a deceit; / upon the scales they are altogether lighter than vanity itself.

10. O trust not in wrong and robbery, give not yourselves unto vanity; if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

11. God spake once, and twice I have also heard the same, that power belongeth unto God;

12. And that thou, Lord, art merciful; for thou renderest unto every man according to his work.

Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost All: As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be; world without end. Amen

Second Reading: 1 CORINTHIANS 7:29-31 (Keegan Reynolds)

A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANS

I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.

Reader: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

Gospel: MARK 1:14-20Priest: The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to Mark Chapter 1 beginning to read at the 14th verse. All: Glory be to Thee, O Lord

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea – for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

Power and majesty, praise to the King!Mountains bow down and the seas will roar,

At the sound of your name!I sing for joy at the work of your hands,

The Blessing

Recessional Hymn: Will you Come and Follow Me

Will you come and follow me if I but call your nameWill you go where you don`t know and never be the same

Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be knownWill you let my life be grown in you and you in me

Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your nameWill you care for cruel and kind and never be the same

Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scareWill you let me answer prayer in you and you in me

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your nameWill you set the prisoners free and never be the same

Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseenAnd admit to what I mean in you and you in me

Will you love the ``you`` you hide if I but call your nameWill you quell the fear inside and never be the same

Will you use the faith you`ve found to reshape the world aroundthrough my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me

Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my nameLet me turn and follow you and never be the same

In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps showThus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.
