COURSE OVERVIEWAll areas of business and commerce are becoming increasingly reliant on effective information systems. Information is the resource that now drives business. This course will introduce and develop your knowledge of information processing and information systems, and specifically how these concepts are applied within commercial organisations.

The focus is upon giving students a range of skills relevant to today's IT industry, and specifically to business information systems. It has a strong emphasis on hands on practical and transferable skills in a range of areas including software engineering, networking and cloud technologies, computer security, distributed databases and human computer interaction making graduates from the course very employable (recent statistics show that around 80% of our students go on to professional employment or to study for higher degrees). COURSE OVERVIEWComputing is changing our world, the way we work, the way we live. To study computer science is to put ourselves at the forefront not just of technological change but of social change as well. This course examines the principles and technologies underpinning the systems that are driving this change. It provides an opportunity to learn about these directly through a combination of work-based learning and in the classroom.

Mr Lawrence Chew Seng ChenICAEW, CIB, CIMA, ICSA, MIAHead of Centre

Mr Chew is a chartered accountant and a former banker. His career of more than three decades covers the fields of accountancy, banking and finance. After ten years in London as a chartered accountant, he resumed his banking career in Malaysia, serving as manager, chief internal auditor and vice-president in various banks. He is currently the Director of Centre for Applied Finance and Economics at HELP University. Mr Chew has taught professional accounting programmes like ACCA and MIA, as well as the University of London programmes

Dr Ng Chee HengBEd Hons (USM), MSc, PhD (UPM)Lecturer

Dr Ng has been in the teaching profession and administration for 18 years before he joined the private higher education sector. He was a senior lecturer at Stamford College and was the Assistant General Manager of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). At HELP CAT, Dr Ng oversees the ARU business programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Ms Karen LeeBBus (Swinburne), MBA (e-Commerce) (CSturt),CPA AustraliaSenior Lecturer

Karen Lee has been in the academic industry for more than 18 years. Specialising in Accounting Information System and Financial Accounting, she has been teaching various Accounting subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level since 1998 at established education institutes in Malaysia and Singapore: Management Development Institute Singapore, Taylor's University and Inti University.

Ms Helen PereiraBSocSc (Econ) Hons (USM), MBA (UPM)Senior Lecturer

Helen Pereira cross teaches in the ARU, American Degree Program and Culinary Arts departments at the undergraduate and diploma level at HELP

CAT. Her specialist areas are HRM, Strategic HRM, Management, International HRM, International Business, International Management, Business Development and Leadership and Marketing. She has 18 years of teaching experience. Before entering academia, Ms Pereira had four years of industrial experience in the private sector. In the course of her work, she developed training modules in human resource management and marketing. She has also provided training sessions in the areas of human resource management and customer services.

Mr Vasan VarathanBIT (UNITEN), MBA (MMU)Lecturer

Mr Vasan Varathan brings to his appointment as lecturer at

HELP CAT an extensive corporate experience in banking, having served two major banks for over 10 years in business outsourcing from Europe to the Asian region. With a first degree in IT and exposure to business globalization, he furthered his studies in MBA, specializing in business outsourcing in the banking industry. At HELP CAT, he lectures to diploma students and to degree students in the Anglia Ruskin University programme and the American Degree Program.

Mr Kunusilin MarimuthuBBA (Madras), MBA (OUM)Lecturer

Mr Kunusilin has over 17 years of experience teaching HRM,

Management and Marketing modules at undergraduate level in numerous institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. His areas of research and investigation are management principles and practice, and human resource management.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Mr John Rajkumar DavidBSc (Computer Science) (Clemson), MSc (Computer System Management) (Maryland)Senior Lecturer

John has been with the HELP Group for over 9 years with experience in teaching and training in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Information Systems.

Prior to joining HELP, John worked in the software industry on a multitude of projects gaining over 20 years of experience in IT Project Management. This includes working in the United States for 11 years as an IT defense contractor for the US Navy, Army, US Coast Guard and as project manager for the US Supreme Court Payroll and Personnel System.

In Malaysia, he was project manager for the manufacturing system of a multi-national company and then played various roles as senior manager in Malaysia’s first subscription-based accounting software which also developed all modules for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Currently, John’s interests are in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.

Ms Vasugi Jayamangalam RajooBSc (Chemistry), PGDCA, MCA (Computer Applics) (Madras)Senior Lecturer

Ms Vasugi has been with HELP College of Arts and Technology for over 5 years. Prior to joining HELP CAT, Ms Vasugi worked extensively in the commercial software development field, particularly in design, for multinational companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan. She specializes in programming, especially in VB, .NET, Databases and Project Management. Ms Vasugi has lectured in Object-Oriented System Design, Database Technology, Professional Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering at the undergraduate level. Her research interest includes Information Security and Semantic Web/Database.

Ms Faridah binti Abdul RahmanBSc Eng-IT (De Montfort), MSc (UiTM) Lecturer

Faridah teaches Computer Science and Business Information System subjects including C#, Data Structures and Object Oriented C++ for the Anglia Ruskin University IT programmes at HELP CAT. She also supervises final-year projects and students who are on internships. Prior to joining HELP CAT, Faridah taught at private institutions for more than 12 years. She has also taught Information Technology and Computer Science subjects for diploma and twinning programmes with public universities like University Technology Malaysia and University Putra Malaysia.

Mr Shyam Sunder PalleBSc, MComp Applic (Kakatiya), MTech (Jawaharlal Nehru TU)Lecturer

Shyam has over 10 years of experience teaching at various educational institutions. He has conducted workshops in data analytics, security and artificial intelligence. Shyam teaches Computer Science and Business Information System subjects. He works closely with the industry as he is the coordinator of the internship programme. His research Interests are in Data Analytics, Security, Software Engineering and Software Quality Assurance.

Nurul Zulfadhli bin MohdMSc (Internet Systems Engineering) (UEL)BSc (Hons) (Software Eng) (UEL)Lecturer

Zulfadhli teaches Computer Science and Business Information System, with over 9 years of experience at various educational institutions. His research interests include Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet Systems, Software Project Management and Image Processing. He has conducted workshops in Image Processing focusing on Facial Recognition. He currently supervises internship students working with industry.

Mohd Zanes bin SahidMSc (Comp Sc) (UiTM)BIT (Multimedia University)Lecturer

A competent trainer with a flair for making learning a joy by simplifying complex technologies. Zanes has extensive experience of the software development industry and balancing the teaching and learning process between theory and industry practices.

Highly skilled and experienced in system design, programming, software testing, database design, and system maintenance with over 11 years of experience in various industries such as telecommunications, insurance and the government electronic marketplace. Zanes' interests are in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence Algorithms, Genetic Algorithms and Swarm Intelligence.

Dr Than Cheok FahBE (Mech), MEngSc (Malaya), PhD (WPI)Head, Centre for Engineering Programmes

Dr Than’s broad academic experience spans over 33 years in both public and private educational institutions prior to joining HELP CAT. He has taught a range of subjects in the areas of Thermofluids, Heat Transfer and Solid Mechanics. Dr Than has provided technical expertise and consultancy services to private and semi-government firms. He has published and presented papers on solar energy, fluid flow, heat transfer and fire safety in local and international journals and conferences.

Dr Tan Hock MengBSc First Class Hons (Elect) (Imperial), PhD (Cantab), Dip Mgt (MIM), MIET, CEng (UK)Senior Lecturer

Dr Tan is an electrical engineer with over 30 years of management experience in companies such as Hewlett Packard, Nilsen Electric and Texchem-Pack. His has taught at Stamford College, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and HELP University; subjects include Manufacturing Strategy, and Project Management & Product Development at undergraduate level, and Global ICT Management at postgraduate level. Dr Tan has provided technical expertise and consultancy services in ISO implementation and Management Resource Planning. His current research interest is Advanced Manufacturing.

Tajul Afiq bin Tajul ArusBEng (Mech) (UiTM), MEng (Materials and Technology) (Malaya)Lecturer

Tajul was a Project and Tender engineer at Asian Marine Professionals Associated (AMPA) from 2012 to 2013. He was also involved in ISO Quality Assurance for 9001 and 14001 in the same company. Tajul teaches Mechanical Engineering modules including IT Communication and Research Skills, Introduction to Mechatronics and Computer Aided Solid Modelling for the Anglia Ruskin University Mechanical Engineering Programme at HELP CAT. His areas of research are biomaterials and manufacturing process.

Ms Krishnawathy SubramaniamBEng (CAD/CAM) (Malaya), MSc (Manufacturing Eng) (LJMU)Lecturer

Ms Krishnawathy worked as a product development engineer in Chubb Malaysia from 2005 to 2010 and has provided consulting services in areas like ERP, TQM, Lean Manufacturing and Product Development. She later held lecturing appointments in the private education sector. She has taught subjects like Statics, Dynamics and Manufacturing Processes. At HELP CAT, she heads the internship committee and is coordinator of the Anglia Ruskin University programmes.

Dr Chan Ming YengBEng First Class Hons (Polymer Eng), PhD (Materials Eng) (UniMAP)Lecturer

Dr Chan is a materials engineer who has published extensively on composite and polymer materials in international journals with a high citation and impact factor. She has won many awards in innovation and exhibition fairs at the national and international levels. She has taught courses on Engineering Materials and Processes in diploma and degree programmes.

Ir Tang Soo HaCEI Parts I & II, MSc (Manufacturing Sys Eng) (Warwick), PGDip (Fuel Technology) (Middlesex Poly), PEng, KMN

Senior Lecturer

Ir Tang is a Mechanical Engineer whose broad teaching and administrative experience spans over 35 years in technical institutes and polytechnics in Malaysia, such as Penang Technical Institute, Ungku Omar Polytechnic, Sultan Abdul Halim Polytechnic and Kuching Polytechnic. He taught Dynamics, Instrumentation and Controls in the Hertfordshire University Mechanical Engineering franchise programme in HICT (now HELP CAT). He teaches Workshop Practice in the HELP CAT Diploma programmes and Manufacturing in the Anglia Ruskin University degree programme at HELP CAT. He is a regular examiner for the professional exams of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
